I feel a return coming & haven't shipped yet
I just had a person send me a message stating that my price ($550) was too high.
Then within 5 minutes the same person BUYS and then pays for the item before I even had a chance to reply.
This makes me very uncomfortable.
My intuition tells me they are going to receive the item and start the complaint process to extort a better price (partial refund). I have done this dance before.
I would like to cancel and block the buyer (suspect of high maintenance buyer).
I can't afford to lose any money right now.
Thoughts ?

·3 years agoAnytime i feel uncomfortable with any sale, i cancel the sale, and just say buyer asked to cancel, and done.. Who cares if they didnt ask.. its your item, you do what you want with it.. ebay screws us enough.. This is the easiest way to get them their money back, and you move on.. CASE CLOSED.

·3 years agoCancel the sale because you "feel uncomfortable" and lie about the reason you cancelled.
Sounds like a great plan.

Ebay is cracking down on sellers that do this. So be aware or your case may get closed.
You handle it the way you do to avoid a defect. Ebay cares if they ask or not.

·3 years agoi very rarely have it happen, but when i dont feel comfortable, you bet ill handle it just like this.. And it has never ever been an issue yet, so i have 100% success doing it.. Ebay does not care about us.. its obvious.

With the minimal protection eBay provides to the sellers I too have on occasion canceled a sale generally for problem with the buyers address and eBay's waffling on their own policies. Almost always this has involved buyers using FF'ers. Generally I am fine and send the item but there are some countries that I simply refuse to ship too for moral and ethical reasons and eBay looks at the shipping address not the buyers registered address when comparing to my list of countries I will not sell to.
Like you noted it's your item, your risk. EBay has no stake in the game other than their potential FVF's.

Good morning @**selling**stuff**. We would like to echo what @mam98031 stated, that this behavior could result in actions taken against your account as we take this very seriously, just as we take a buyer not paying very seriously. If you ever feel uncomfortable in a transaction please reach out to our agents here for their recommended next steps, because we definitely want to make sure you're taken care of as well!
Thanks,

·3 years agoHonestly, the message could have came in after and something was delayed.
I would respond the the message and ask if they have changed their mind and would like to cancel.

Good answer. This is the most likely scenario.

I understand your trepidation, but there's no way I could put energy into items post sell. But, I do understand where you're coming from.

The phone reps have a terrible reputation for getting you off the phone as soon as possible even if that means giving you the advice you want to hear instead of the advice you need to have.

The social media Chat accounts are covered by trained eBay employees with some authority.
And you get a transcript so you can compare what you heard with what you were told.
And of course:
NO RETURNS DOES NOT MEAN NO REFUNDS.
But even with a No Returns policy, the seller can demand return before refunding.

·3 years agoIf a buyer sent me that message and then bought, I would probably cancel & block. I see a headache
Do your homework.
1. Review the buyer's complete profile. Their location and all 3 feedback categories.
2. Google map the address to get an idea. You can map and satellite which is probably more current.
3. If international, I would cancel.
4. IF you do ship within your country, pay extra for signature required at delivery.
5. You could also send another e-mail to buyer and ask why they made that comment and then purchased. This may help with your decision, and it creates a communication thread that eBay can see. If they don't respond, you probably have your answer.
good luck!

·3 years agoCall ebay and have them note on record you are concerned about fraud on this order, ask them if theres any history with the buyer acct that would support your concern. Sometimes they advise you to cancel.

·3 years agoEbay will not tell you account info on another members account.
Seems there are way too many assumptions happening here.

·3 years agoNote on record? They don't do that.
Ask for buyer history? They don't do that.
Advise you to cancel? They don't do that.
And even if they did, what reason would you use? Ebay told me to?
I agree with @vintage-camerastuff
I would ship it and not give it a second thought.

·3 years agoIf you can't afford to lose the money then you should take a hit to your account and cancel 'Out of Stock'.
You shouldn't ever list things on the internet you can't afford to lose.
You can't cancel for any issue with the buyer because the buyer has done nothing other than state dissatisfaction with the price which doesn't actually mean anything.

·3 years agoThey may be a problem buyer, however most people don't purchase stuff just to return it later. They just don't go into a transaction with that outlook as it makes no sense at all. Extra work for them and for you.
I would encourage you never to ASSUME things. It is always good to be cautious, but you are assuming something with very little info to make such a judgement call. Of course it is up to you, but I see no reason to cancel this transaction in which you would get a defect for as you can't claim problem with the address or that the buyer asked you to cancel. So you will have to file it for OOS, which gives you a defect on your account.

·3 years agoHe really wanted it so he bought it regardless of the price. I have had similar issues with buyers emailing me wanting a lower price and before I could get around to answering they purchased at the price listed. That just tells you he wanted it so bad and was afraid someone else would buy it so he made the purchase. I would ship it and not give it a second thought.

·3 years agoI usually google the address and see where it is going. Is it a house or a commercial corner. Is it domestic or freight forward International? I check the feedback of the buyer. Has the buyer bought similar items in their feedback? Are they a new buyer on eBay? New buyers in my experience do not buy something for $550.00. Careful to cancel a buyer. Check address and feedback first. I get buyers asking for a reduced price.
The "does not accept returns" is not a good thing...no returns does not mean no returns.
After I did returns when buyer pays for returns...I don't even get those asking for partial refunds. Just my thoughts.
