I could not find an item and cancelled an order, eBay won't remove the neg.
It's complete and utter B S that a buyer can cancel an order without harm, but I do so because I legitimately could not locate the item.
Not to mention I've been on here long enough to remember when ToysRUS was selling on eBay and got dozens of negs for cancelled orders and eBay removed them ALL.
I'm sick of the favoritism and the one way street for buyers.

·8 months ago@quadcitypickers although ideally there could be better protections in place for when things that are out of our control happen, I have found it helpful to reach out to the buyer and communicate, prior to taking any action, I explain the situation and apologize ahead of time, I may also inquire if the buyer would be interested in anything else I may have for sale and attempt to soften the blown in any suitable manner. I have found that people are generally very understanding in most cases.
Thankfully those situations are extremely rare and as noted already the hard defect is far above and beyond a negative remark.

·8 months agoHi, So you received a negative feedback. Your buyer had a bad experience & voiced his opinion. Simply "own it" & move on. You have plenty of attractive items that are presented well with lots of positive feedbacks that your potential buyers will also see. You just made a mistake (we all do) Dont' stress over it - life in too short. Just accept your the negative & keep doin' what your doin'. Best Of Luck!

·8 months agoIf you can't find the item you have for sale after someone buys it, then IT IS OBVIOUSLY YOUR FAULT!!
If you been on eBay for a long time like you say then you should have some idea how things work.
Ebay ALWAYS sides with the buyer especially when you are in the wrong!!

·8 months agoBuyers are not able to cancel an order on their own. They can make requests to a seller.
If they were able to do this without you agreeing, how did they do this? Were they able to get ebay to do this for them?
Yes I also do not like that ebay plays favorites with certain sellers as well. It is hypocritical and I would say, unethical. Clearly the small seller here always comes last. But at this point, thats the current state of the website. Sellers have to make their own decisions on how they are going to be on this site. It may mean leaving. It may mean taking a break. It may mean reducing presence and shifting elsewhere more. It may mean changing business policies. Everyone has to determine their level of risk acceptance, and where their red lines are.

·8 months agoSince when can buyers cancel an order, they can only send a request to cancel.
In addition, because of sellers lying so often about the reason for cancelling orders, saying "Buyer asked to cancel" to avoid their own defects, my account as a buyer was restricted for almost a year.
adamcartwright
·8 months ago@campanaelia
Are you saying eBay erroneously restricted your account because so many sellers erroneously claimed you requested to cancel orders?
How can that be, if eBay has access to all messages?
I assume you protested each cancelation and the reasons provided by the sellers?
campanaelia
·8 months agoI certainly did and they finally removed it. The problem was the restriction started after the normal time frame to appeal them.
adamcartwright
·8 months ago@campanaelia
So you didn't protest as each seller canceled, but only after the cancelations had accumulated to the point that you were restricted?
Just trying to understand what factors eBay considers in restricting accounts.

·8 months agoI normally report every seller when they lie about the reason, which usually occurs within a day when the bid is too low.
But the 2 transaction that caused the restriction were items not as described...
One was for memory ram that was shipped via media mail. Here in san diego they inspect every media mail package. The address I shipped it to was my postal store mailbox. They refuse all packages with postage due unless arrangements are made ahead of time. USPS tracking only shows package "refused, RTS". They don't have an entry showing postage due on their scanners. Now ebay sides with the sellers in this situation so I had to walk on eggshells with the seller, when they did refund me in full, I was so relieved I didn't even check the reason they gave.
The other item was also memory ram, 2 sticks that listed as new. It was not new, and one of the sticks was defective. I messaged the seller and they admitted it wasn't new and never tested it. They also sent a full refund and honestly I didn't notice the reason they used for the refund at that time.
These 2 transactions were then considered unpaid items.
adamcartwright
·8 months agoWow, pretty sneaky of the seller to screw up and then pin unpaid items on you.
I'm surprised the USPS doesn't have a way to show postage due on a scan.
gurlcat
·8 months agoI think you must be mistaken because that doesn't make sense. How could eBay consider those as "unpaid" sales after there was tracking with delivery and all? A seller can opt to simply refund the buyer without an official return filed. It's wiser to ask the buyer to file a return, because then the seller can get the final value fees credited, but they don't have to do it that way.
Also, even if those were counted as 'buyer requested' cancellations eBay wouldn't restrict a buyer for only 2 of them.

·8 months agoYeah that's what I always thought too. But that's not what happened to me!
And you're right the first 2 strike from the INAD cases weren't noticed until I received a third strike from a glitch in the auto-pay system when it first started with the 7 days to shop more with combined shipping.
I was totally against auto-pay but tried it when the 7 day thing first started. It was with one of my regular sellers and notified him I planned to bid 3 more items on the forth day after I won my first item.
It was all totally new to both of us and I even sent him a video the ebay team created on youtube on how it's supposed to work.
It didn't work as they explained it and on the fourth day mt first item was cancelled for non-payment. As I said I was a repeat buyer with this seller and still am to this day. I guess I paid the price while they were still getting the bugs out.

·8 months agoThat buyer is not mistaken. I worked with them quite a bit on it at the time and we involved Kyle, too. I have theories about what happened, but nothing I'm willing to discuss here, and it's not something I've seen happen to any other buyer to date.

·8 months agoI wouldn’t be half as concerned about the feedback as the out of stock defect.
gurlcat
·8 months ago@fern*wood I always wondered this -is there somewhere a buyer can see what reason the seller gave for cancelling their order?

·8 months agoWhen the seller cancels the buyer gets an email telling them it's been cancelled and the reason.
I remember a while ago one seller cancelled on me (it was the only time an order has ever been cancelled on me in recent memory) and I saw he put out of stock for the reason. I did not leave him a neg, even though he should have just sucked it up and shipped. His reason for cancelling was that he didn't charge enough postage to ship to Canada, so instead of spending a few dollars he took an OOS defect. Figured that was punishment enough.

·8 months agoYes , the reason the seller used for the cancellation is given to the buyer in the cancellation message.

·8 months agoYou had something listed for sale.
Someone bought it.
You couldn't find it.
You had to cancel the sale.
Of course the buyer was disappointed, wouldn't you be?
Why would you not deserve a negative?
gurlcat
·8 months agoJudging by your current number of listings compared to your number sold, it would appear your store is currently smaller than usual. This would be the perfect time to do a quick inventory check, to make sure all your listed items are still at hand (and findable).
gurlcat
·8 months agoThe sale date was back on the 19th, so I don't know if I sympathize more for you or the buyer. If I bought something (especially something like a vehicle part, where every day waiting SUCKS), and the seller cancelled within the next 24 hours or so, I'd be a little disappointed but wouldn't leave any feedback. 2 days .... hmmmm. 3+ days .... okay that cancellation better come with a profuse apology, just saying.
Just because a buyer gets all their money back doesn't mean it's "without harm." It means they are back where they started, shopping around again, when they thought they were done with that.

·8 months agoThe problem goes back to the beginning of eBay. Sellers often refused to sell when the auction price did not go as high as they hoped. This made for unhappy buyers. eBay tried everything short of a Heretic's fork to stop it. Nothing worked. Finally, they started suspending sellers for life over it. Yes they get very testy about that.

·8 months agoFeedback is about the **buyers** experience - and for this one it was a negative. If all your other feedback is good, it shouldn't matter to people reviewing the feedback, but if this is part of a pattern this is not on the buyer or Ebay. Inventory is a difficult problem.
