I can't understand this non-payer situation...
Guy buys a token in June. Doesn't pay. After two weeks, I send him a note asking when payment will be made. He has reasonably acceptable feedback for a buyer, so I'm figuring life took hold or maybe he forgot. Got no response, so a couple of days ago I cancelled for non-payment.
This is not a high scam item, and not something that someone else will likely come by looking for and be disappointed it's not in my store, so it's not really a big deal holding it for a few weeks (if it looks like he'll pay in the end.... I really don't get very many non-payers, unless it's international and instead of cancelling they ignore me because shipping is too high).
Anyway literally 6 hours after I cancel (the very next morning), the item sells again. I saw it in my sales history and I'm thinking "didn't I just cancel this last night" before I realized that the sale date is June 15. Of course he doesn't pay.
Now I don't usually add non payers to my BBL because the strikes takes care of that, and I'm OK for second chances when someone's been shut out of everyone's store for a number of months for having non payment strikes. Some buyers learn, if they have a reasonable history, and don't do it again. A few have even asked me to exempt them because they say they learnt their lesson on the non payment stuff.
What I don't get... is why he doesn't pay for it for three weeks, gets himself a strike for ignoring me when I asked about payment, then goes and buys it again as soon as I relist it. (And if I'm cancelling a second time, I definitely will BBL). And then on top of buying it again, not paying for it again.
It's not that special and I have the only one on eBay (of that issue of token), so I don't really get the fixation on having it in his purchase history without paying for it.

·3 years agoWhat I don't get is why any experienced seller would allow a buyer to go 3 weeks without paying, when a seller can cancel, citing "buyer did not pay" as the reason after 3 days of nonpayment.

·3 years agoI'll ride something out until payday, even if it is a monthly payday as long as the buyer tells me about it. Almost all those guys end up paying, it is the ones who make no contact who never pay.

OP3 years agoThat's basically why I do the courtesy of a note, to find out what's going on. Most of the time it's fine. I don't have too many who linger before paying (who don't tell me before buying), and it's rare that I have one that doesn't end up paying. Some I really do cancel on hour 97 because I know right away I won't be paid, but in this niche item, I hadn't expected it. And especially didn't expect after I have him a strike that he'd buy it again.

OP3 years agoThe non-payment thing is rare. I actually had a couple others that lingered and there was a reason for it, those guys ended up paying for their items
There are sellers in here who give buyers quite a bit of time to pay because they like to combine their orders and ship altogether. It's common for me because I sell a lot of inexpensive stuff.

·3 years agoYou seem to, no matter what the issue is, always find a way to blame a seller for something. An inherent negative bias doesn't really produce the best advice or opinions.

OP3 years agoThat interferes with the dozens of customers that are buying many items, sometimes over a period of a few days... punishing all of them because of the first non-payer I've had in a year seems a little dramatic.

·3 years agoCancel exactly 1 second after the 96 hours. Go ahead and block him now. Once you cancel, relist it higher. Maybe he will go away. Do NOT send another invoice because it will give the buyer an additional 96 hours to pay. Yes, this is sheer stupidity that ebay has made this recent change to allow deadbeats and folks that can't afford to buy stuff here, more time to come up with the money.

OP3 years agoI know about the invoice trick, but most people end up paying. Was trying to figure out the best way to approach, but probably saying nothing and cancelling at the 96 hour mark is the right thing to do (that's in 48 hours, I think...) I don't really need to say anything to him unless he asks. As for relisting, that's not mandatory. If I don't relist it, he will have to move on because he can't buy it from me anymore. I have lots of buyers for those types of things who might be interested in it, it's not like it won't sell, but it's a bit of a niche type of token.
