I am a seller. I do not use tracking. If buyer does not leave feedback, when do I get paid?
I sell postage stamps to collectors and use postage stamps to mail most sales. For 73 cents, there is no tracking. EBay now HOLDS the buyers payment until they leave feedback. If they do not leave FB, how long are my funds held? Forever??

·1 year agoI think that point 2 may be a misunderstanding of what the CS rep said, or perhaps a miscommunication on the CS rep's part.
I agree.
Ignoring that the phone reps work for a subcontractor and not directly for eBay, oral messages are often misunderstood
That's why the social media Chats, which are with eBay employees, are more useful.
You get a transcript which allows reviewing in case what you heard was not what was said.

·1 year agoHow many 'out of stock' items have you done?
How many refunds have you done within a year?
I don't have tracking on everything and sell stamps as well.
I think just a few 'out of stock' and refunding a buyer might be the problem.
Never do the 'out of stock' for anything.
I did notice some feedbacks where you gave refunds for out of stock items.
Always ask a buyer if they desire something else you can send to replace the item not available and 'up' the credit value of an item.

·1 year agoI don't know, if a seller tried to get me to agree to receive an item I didn't order, just to keep from getting a defect, I'd be a little ticked.

·1 year agoIf a buyer purchases something for 20 bucks which is not available and get to choose anything I have for 50 bucks instead or even more...would a buyer be happy?
And again, I only sell stamps and this OP sells stamps...which is in the same category.
I do not sell everything including the 'kitchen sink' so to speak.
It works if a seller sells 'items in the same category'.
You kinda sell novelty items which I would not want a substitute from you...no offense.
And this seller might have had too many 'out of stocks' done on his account.
Read OP feedbacks.
Since you kinda know a lot...how many 'out of stock' items can a seller do can without having a problem?

OP1 year agoSee my post of 1:22 PM - it's all related to a new rule established by eBay earlier this year.
kensgiftshop
·1 year agoDid you ask them where this new rule was posted?
If you talked to CS over the phone, most of them have no idea whats going on and will tell you anything to get you off the phone.
ddaannv
OP1 year agoI did not ask. I did speak to one CS who wasn't sure the answer, so he passed me to a supposed expert CS who gave me, in some detail, what seems like the correct answer.
I then check my account and found that I have no unpaid sales that are more than a month old. So this is also consistent with what I was told.

·1 year agoDo you have a link to the new rule? Or can you get one and share please.

·1 year agoIt would depend on the buyer.
If they needed that $20 item, the $50 item probably wouldn't do them any good.
I just think it's a little cheesy when a seller is out of stock and they try to get the buyer to agree to something else.
If a seller has a lot of out of stocks, they should get the defects they deserve.
How many OOS before it causes a problem, probably depends on the seller.
Small seller, it wouldn't take that many.
12345jamesstamps
·1 year agoI disagree...again you don't sell items in the same category or a lot of items so it wouldn't work for you.
'out of stock'...sometimes the seller can't find the item at the moment...and having a buyer pick through 4000 items instead it would work...it's not cheesy at all.
It was just a suggestion for the OP who has quite a few out of stock hits...We don't really know how many.
I work in retail in which if a buyer wants a particular item...but it's out of stock...would you tell customer oh-well or suggest something else...retail(wine and alcohol)...and also the restaurant & bar industry...which always offer a guest something else similar. The buyer can always say no of course...but I wouldn't give a buyer the cold-shoulder since the buyer wants something instead of a oh-well.
The same with a hotel room or a car rental...always offer a substitution.
It doesn't hurt.

·1 year agoI almost never use tracking when I do sell. I always get my payouts in 24 hours, and I'm fairly infrequent seller.

·1 year agoOne possibility is that eBay may not know that you've actually shipped some items.
When you ship using only stamps and not with a label that has tracking numbers, do you go to your "Paid and Shipped" section of your Seller Hub and click on "Mark As Shipped"? If not, eBay thinks you haven't even shipped the item. Perhaps you missed doing that on some items... just a possibility.
I ship a LOT of items with just a stamp or two on a First Class envelope, but ALWAYS immediately go to my Seller Hub and mark the item as shipped. I've never had holds in the 27 years I've been selling here.
Cheers, Duffy
ddaannv
OP1 year agoThanks for your note, Duffy. YES I always mark as shipped and l leave positive FB.
I think my remaining question is ... since eBay in their infinite wisdom holds my payments, sent using a stamped envelope and marked SHIPPED, how long do they hold the payments when the buyer of a stamp?
mam98031
·1 year agoMy bet is that your issues are related to you not using tracking to ship stuff. Have you read the policy on the stats Ebay evaluates sellers for EVERY month?
https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/selling-policies/seller-standards-policy?id=4347
You should read through it as it may answer your questions. And again, looking at your Seller Dashboard will likely be enlightening.

·1 year agoThey don't.
As most of the sellers here have told you.
Over and over.
I strongly suspect that you have several Defects that you are trying to ignore as the real reason.
My suspicion is based on the negs and neutrals that a few naive buyers who did NOT open Claims.
Those more sophisticated buyers who did open Claims for non-delivery , poor packing, cancellations, etc, are the reason you got those Defects.
We cannot see those Defects, they are private information, but you can.
Put on your big girl panties and deal with it.

·1 year agoThere absolutely has to be another reason for the hold on your funds.
If eBay had an overall general rule to not release funds until/unless the buyer leaves FB, given the fact that the general acknowledged rate of FB here is around 50%. how many sellers would NEVER get paid?
Has to be another reason, has to be.

·1 year agoI'm curious, where did you hear/read they started holding sellers' money based on feedback?
ddaannv
OP1 year agoI did not hear that. I'm just so puzzled why they hold my payments
mam98031
·1 year ago@ddaannv
So you assumed it and then shared it here as if it was a fact? Why? Bad information gets you no where close to figuring out what is happening. You are a very experienced seller, you should know this without anyone having to say a word.
I asked you a question earlier that you haven't answer. That may be because you overlooked it or you simply don't want to answer. Which of course is your decision to make totally.
Is your seller status Below Standard? Do you have issues on your Seller Dashboard?
https://sellerstandards.ebay.com/dashboard?region=US
Because you don't use or upload tracking on shipments, it could be you have ran into some performance issues that you have overlook. You can tell if that is the problem from the link I gave you above. To be able to fix whatever the issue is, you have to find the source of the problem.
ddaannv
OP1 year agoMy seller performance is Above Standard, so that's not the problem
My remaining question is: if a payment is held by eBay (for whatever reason they seem to be using), and the buyer does not leave FB, then how long will they withhold the payment from me?
pikabo-icu
·1 year ago@ddaannv Sadly, it can be up to 90 days..
Hopefully it wont take that long.. Have a read through this info on payment holds.
https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/getting-paid/getting-paid-items-youve-sold/payments-hold?id=4816
mam98031
·1 year agoUntil we know why Ebay is doing this, we can't know how long the funds are on hold for.
pikabo-icu
·1 year agoThat makes sense..
That link has a button to check when payments will be released so I thought it might work for the OP.
mam98031
·1 year agoThat is a tough question to answer until we discover why they are doing it in the first place. Ebay doesn't just randomly select sellers to hold their payments for no reason. There is a reason and that is what you need to discover and understand before you can know how long the holds will last.
I know you are hung up on the feedback process, but that is NOT the issue.
I would encourage you to contact Ebay directly and find out the reason. Once we know that, we can better advise you.
On each Ebay page there is a link to contact Customer Service at the top of the page and again at the bottom of the page.
I would suggest that you contact Ebay for Business on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter for the better trained CSRs.
Here are your options for contacting Ebay Customer Service. Please be aware that for social media CS, you send them a Private Message and briefly explain what your problem or issue is. Feel free to leave your Name, address, phone number and/or your email address in this message. It is private and secure and it may help to speed up the response for you.
https://twitter.com/askebay
https://www.facebook.com/ebay
https://www.instagram.com/ebayforsellers/
Your options will be on the left. If you use the link below you can only get to the Automated Assistant or Chat box type AGENT in the box and hit enter. You will then get more options. Not all options are available 24/7. It will depend on staffing available. So sometimes you can request a call back and sometimes you can't. Sometimes you have the Chat option available and other times it won't me. If it is important to you to use one of those options, just try back later.
If you use a cell phone or other mobile device, you may need to turn off your Spam filter so that Ebay can call you.
If you are a seller outside of the US or Canada, you will need to use the Chat Option.

·1 year agoThey can hold the funds for 30 days?
Will they hold them for a full 30 days, they might and they might not.
johnrj1226
·1 year agoWould think that a lot of sellers would bee disappointed if the buyer didn't leave FB - folks report on this site that they are lucky if the get 30% FB from buyers. Leaving FB is an optional exercise in the eyes of eBay.
mam98031
·1 year ago@ddaannv
" EBay now HOLDS the buyers payment until they leave feedback. " No they do not. Not on established sellers such as yourself unless there is a performance issue by the seller. Besides most buyer actually never leave feedback, so that would be a hot mess for a whole lot of sellers.
Is your seller status Below Standard?
Have you tried using ESE [Ebay Standard Envelop] program?

·1 year agoAs I said.
I ship without tracking from Canada using stamps.
My payments are not held.
I suggested reasons why yours might be.
ddaannv
OP1 year agoI cannot imagine why my payments are held by eBay. 99.9% positive with nearly 40,000 feedbacks.

·1 year agoThe buyer leaving feedback has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with you getting paid.
I hope that answers your question.

·1 year agoYour FB % and Detailed Seller Ratings are based on the last 365/366 rolling calendar days - not your entire eBay history.

·1 year agoA seller’s feedback has no bearing on eBay’s evaluation of that seller’s standing or performance. It is not taken into consideration on the whole, as feedback is a voluntary program and generally a subjective one. Given just those two factors, one can see a feedback score is not readily quantifiable for eBay’s purposes in measuring seller performance.
reallynicestamps
·1 year agoSame here.
Perhaps more so because I ship from Canada.
I am listing on dotCOM.
My payments continue to arrive on Tuesdays.
Is it possible you somehow changed your payouts from weekly to monthly?
OTOH
You have 9 negs and 13 neutrals.
While eBay says they do not use feedback to assess member accounts, it is my experience that naive buyers leave negs when they are unhappy with a transaction, but do not know how to use the MBG to get a refund.
We do not see if you have had any Claims. That information is private.
But eBay does use Claims to assess accounts. And Claims can mean Defects on the account.
Especially if some were cancelled for "Out of Stock". EBay hates those.
That too may be why your payments are being held.
ddaannv
OP1 year agoI do get payouts when a tracked item is delivered or when buyer leaves FB. My question is when (if ever) I get paid if the buyer does not leave FB. Do I get paid no-matter-what after, say 60 days? Or is the payment held indefinitely by eBay?
kensgiftshop
·1 year agoThey can hold the payment for 30 days.
mam98031
·1 year ago@kensgiftshop
They can hold it longer than that. It is impossible for any of us posters to accurately give the OP advice when we don't know WHY their funds are on hold. There are more details the OP has not shared. Could be they don't know or understand, but Ebay doesn't typically do this kind of thing blindly. They do usually tell the seller via email.
kensgiftshop
·1 year agoI know that, but it's usually 30 days for regular holds.
The OP hasn't said if it's all payments that are being held or just orders without tracking.
fashunu4eeuh

OP1 year agoThanks I did read that policy. It does not answer my exact question.

·1 year agoThe payout hold policy does answer your exact question. What answer are you looking for? Whatever it may be is not the right answer.

If your payouts are being held for one of the reasons in the image below you will be waiting up to 30 days for the payouts to be released.
The payout holds policy says nothing about payouts being released when feedback is received.
Who ever told you that or where you found that information is incorrect.
soh.maryl
·1 year agoActually, it DID answer your question. Obviously, we have NO way of knowing why your payments are being held. We do know that lack of FB cannot be the reason. We suggested other possible reasons. That's about as good as it gets.
