We'll call this the final update unless something new happens. I've not heard from the guy since the other night. I'd say either the wife bought the story or there are a couple of divorce lawyers about to make some hard cash.

Meanwhile, any wagers on how long I'll keep having bras show up as "Sponsored items based on my recent views"? I think it took me ten days to get the Big Betty doll off my screen. 🤣

Yeah, what happened was, the buyer bought something else from a different seller and that seller shipped him the wrong item and they accidently emailed you about it, thinking that you were the other seller. It happens me at least a couple times a year. Mystery solved!

This is not an order mix-up. This buyer knows whether he got those filters from me. They were delivered two weeks ago. I've been doing this long enough to know that if the tracking shows and order is delivered and the buyer doesn't see it in their mailbox or on their porch, they send a message that day or the next day at the latest. That's especailly true when the item they ordered was $70 and it is a need-based item. They don't wait two weeks.

@christworks I think what Tom is saying is the buyer wasn't accusing you of not sending the water filters, just accidentally contacted you instead of some other seller who was supposed to ship some other thing (not water filters OR a bra, but that seller sent a bra).

But @tomstoolsanddiecast the way a buyer's Purchases page is set up, it would be nearly impossible to contact the wrong seller. A photo thumbnail of the item displays prominently at the top of each screen in the process, on both the website and the app.

Also the buyer wrote back a second time, doubling down. There's no way he still wouldn't know he's talking to the water filter seller.  🤣

If it's very similar items and very close in time, it's believable as a mix up. When it's water filters and a bra 13 days apart, it's some [Removed by Moderator].

@christworks Do you think the wife has seen your replies? I think she must have demanded to see him carry his story through, or why would he actually accuse you of something so ridiculous? I don't think it's a scam attempt, because I think even the most fearful seller would push back at least a little. And if the water filters were pricey like you say, that's even less reason to give in to sheer intimidation, when it's this absurd and the accusation is so provably false.

I think you're right -this dude got busted ordering a bra for his sidechick, his wife confronted him right when he walked in the door, and "bad seller" was all he could think of on the spot. Then she was like, "Alright, prove it! Write the seller about this and let's see what they say."

No, I don't think it is a scam either. At first I thought it was a poorly thought-out scam, until I looked up my buyer and saw that he is a prominent figure in his little small town and about 60 years old. Now that I think about it, I wonder if the naughty word you said was the name of a person who has a prominent wife and was in the news for certain unmentionable activities about a month ago. 😉

His second message was much, much shorter and less angry - so I think he was watching that first message. You come walking through the door and realize your wife opened up the bra meant for something or someone she doesn't know about, I'd be on that computer, too, messaging the seller all sorts of profanities for show.

I have honest and respectful buyers.

I do not need to waste my time taking photos of my shipments.

I do not harbor the illusion that anyone at Ebay would ever view such pictures.

@ten_o_nine While I do not do the message thing that @gator08041971 does, I definitely take the photo of the package on the scale. Once I have every order packed, I take all the photos. Takes just a second or two per package. My images are time-date stamped. I cannot tell how you how many times it has come in handy, both with the buyer and USPS. I also agree that it serves as a deterrent from false claims. Once a scammer knows you have a photo of their package with the label on it, it gets into their head and they start thinking about what else you might have they don't know about.

It's not for every seller. Q4 gets busy for me and there were a few times I didn't do it just because of the volume of packages I was dealing with or I might be more selective, and snap a photo of high dollar packages only.

The buyer wrote back. He told me to look at the tracking number (the wrong one) and I'll see that it matches his eBay record.

@gator08041971 I did send him a photo of his package and label, along with a screenshot showing it was delivered to his mailbox on April 21. This time I sent him a screenshot of the correct tracking number attached to his order and his name/address.

I did some digging and this guy is the mayor of a small town and he is married. I think he ordered the pink bra for either another woman or himself, but the wife opened it and he came home to a lot of questions . Don't ask me how I know, but if you are cheating on your wife you'll come up with all types of stories to explain away odd behavior. "Oh, honey, that da** eBay seller! I ordered a $70 water filter from him for our kitchen sink and he sent me a pink bra instead! I will write him and demand a refund!" That bra is size 42D. I'd be coming up with something quick on the fly, too, if I was still married. One thing is for sure: Ain't nobody ordering a pink bra size 42D by mistake.

I just noticed the size of that thing. 'Ole Al Bundy would say that is for some Big 'uns. 😆🤣

I found the listing. I'd send a link to the buyer telling them that "As I told you, you bought a filter from me. But in case you want to contact the correct seller, this is the listing of from your purchase. (Then send the link.)

It's pretty easy to find the listing but if you need it, I'll send it to you in a PM.

Wrong order mix-up

"I’ve reviewed the photos you sent, specifically the shipping label. That label shows a different sender, a different tracking number, and a ship date of April 28th. My records show your water filters were delivered on April 21st under tracking number# ---------------------. It appears you’ve confused my order with a shipment from another seller. You'll want to contact the sender listed on that label regarding the bra.".

You could politely point out that they may have you mixed up with another seller, since the tracking information is not yours. I would make sure to include a snapshot of the correct tracking with their name & address showing if you can.

Personally, I take a photo of every package I ship and have them in case I need them for something like this. But I also message every buyer with a thank you, package is packaged, shipped on date, and appreciate your business, etc etc. And they get a few pictures, one of the item next to the invoice, a couple of it being packaged, then one packaged with its shipping label before being handed to the carrier.

That’s a lot of extra work for zero protection. eBay doesn't accept photos or videos as proof because they can be easily faked, you could take the photo and then swap the item right after. If it makes you feel better, go for it, but don't expect it to save you if a buyer wants to return or claims 'Item Not as Described'.

Whether its useful or not is not my concern. Its what I do. Since I do that with every order, I have history. Every order has a message history. Every order has pictures of the item sent via the messaging system.

I don't care if eBay will consider it or not. I know its there. The buyer knows its there. If anything, it will deter and lower the chance of a buyer attempting something.

If nothing else, I can point a rep when fighting an issue to that history that they can pull up if they are inclined and see that I do that with every buyer and have been now for a couple years worth of sales. Whether or not they take that into serious consideration is another matter of course.

Fortunately, any issues I have had I have handled directly on my own without having to involve eBay with one exception. There was an item that I had setup a return for, but the item was never returned despite the label being provided and the packaged marked as shipped. However eBay's system was forcing the refund a few weeks later despite the tracking showing the item was never given to the shipper! Nor had I received it under a different method, and the buyer was not communicating. I had to call in on that one to avoid eBay stepping in and refunding it anyway, despite the system clearly showing the status right there on the screen. Thankfully that was resolved correctly in my favor.
