How would you go about inventorying just under 10,000 postcards?
I've tried just going through my active listings, but every day a number of them roll over so the list changes daily and cards get missed. I'm baffled.

The same way I would inventory:
3 post cards
72 post cards
551 post cards
2,944 post cards
10,000 post cards
By counting each and every one.

·8 months agoIf the goal here is to match your physical inventory to your Active Listings (or vice versa)......
Go to the Seller Hub -> Reports -> Download
Fiddle with the settings for Active Listings and then download the .csv file
Open that in Excel (or any other spreadsheet program).
Now you have a list of all Active Listings, you can sort, mark up, print or delete at your pleasure.

·8 months agoCustom SKU is easiest. Like baseball cards or magic cards each one has a unique number and box location. In the box put in post it notes by X number so easier to find later within the box.
Example if I use Disney Wonder Cards my Prefix is DSW0001. On the box its stored it it has the DSW# to DSW#. Then I look in the box and check which number and go to the box area and find it.

·8 months agoI would set up a system for labeling your inventory. Does not have to be complex. Can be as simple as location or subject matter followed by a number.
Italy-00001
Italy-00002
Italy-00003
NorthDakota-00001
Religious-00001
Novelty-00001
Animals-00001
etc
If postcards are stored in an envelope or sleeve you put the inventory number on that, then you put the same inventory number on eBay in the Custom Label (SKU) field. You also keep a spreadsheet with this info which can be sorted by the same inventory number. As items sell, remove from spreadsheet (or move to a new tab).
In seller hub active listings you can add the Custom Label (SKU) column, then sort your listings by that column.
This is the type of system that's easier to set up from 'go' rather than backtrack with 10K listings. That does not mean it's too late to start. You don't have to do it all at once. Start small. Today: postcards from Germany. Tomorrow: postcards of famous paintings. Set aside an hour or so each day and chip away at it.

·8 months agoI would start creating random lots of say 100-200 postcards and sell a bulk of them at once. So that way you can have around 50-100 listings. Selling them individually will take a lot of time, work, and expense. In addition you probably won't sell them right away due to demand.

·8 months ago@judesantiquesnbooks You tried 'going through them' to do what? You've left out the most important part of the thread.

·8 months agoBefore we retired, we had a shop and much of the inventory was also on eBay, HIP, ZoS, etc.
In the shop the stamps were sorted by area (Canada, Commonwealth, Overseas) in different coloured binders (small 3 ring) and the binders held "102"cards with Scott # and description. We had blue 102s for used stamps and black for mint.

We did not separate online and in shop items. They were all available to our shop customers.
When a stamp went online, it was given an inventory number, and the staff was drilled into putting the inventory number in the day book, while one staff member spent their last hour of the day, taking down online items that had sold in the store.
There are albums made for postcards, but they are very expensive. If you do shows, the "shoebox" method is best, but cards are constantly going to wander from one box to the next.
I would strongly encourage you to use postcard slips, which you probably already do, and labels with some form of inventory number that indicates which box, if nothing else.

I recall when my wife and I would go to shows and look through the postcard shoeboxes we would often find cards that had wandered (e.g., a France card in the Italy section). If we pulled them aside and handed them to the dealer along with our purchases, they were genuinely appreciative.

·8 months agoI do put my stamps in glassine envelopes with a quick Scott Stamp number on a piece of paper..some in shoeboxes for protection especially of the weather plus I have plastic containers.
Perhaps...country and/or state...theme(art)...unused...used(stamped).
It works for me if this is what the question is.
Then I have a raised card dividing the different categories with a name of the country...for me it's countries.
I can usually find a stamp in minutes.

·8 months agoMy favorite way of keeping info at a glance is my using the add/edit note feature. I use it for the cost of item and dates when I did sell similar. For location, I use the custom label (sku).
Add/ edit note can be accessed through seller hub. Next to your edit button will be 3 grey dots. Add/ edit is the 4th selection from the top. Towards the bottom is a track history selection which I find helpful.
The custom label or sku feature can be accessed from the edit button. It is located just below title on your listing page.

·8 months agoIf you have a unique custom label on each listing, you can sort by the custom label and then you do not have to worry about when they roll over.
If you do this, it helps greatly to have your invetory organized in the same order.

·8 months agoNot sure what you mean exactly.
The store set-up amount number will not be the same as the number of items listed not using the store set-up.
I have the same thing.
And usually there are daily recurring postings that are re-posted at some time on a given day.
I see '9600' in just listings and then clicking on the seller's store '9645'.

·8 months agoNope, neither would I.
10,000 $1.00 listings. What a waste of time. Not worth it. Post Cards would end up as kindling for my fireplace long before I wasted my time with that. 😂
