How to start a sale for an entire category
I have never had a sale on ebay and can't find a procedure for it on the overview page. Anybody have any suggestions?

Markdown Manager (in box marked Selling Tools)
Top right-hover over blue box (Create a Promotion)
at bottom, click "Sale event and markdown"
Hover over 'percentage' (or $) and choose 'amount'
click bottom right blue box
Left side- click blue 'Select Items'
Top left- categories (click 'store category' (or 'ebay category, depending on what you were referring to)
Follow prompts and checkmark 'which category' you want
Follow the rest to completion (you will 'title' your sale' start date/time- end date/time' etc all the way to 'bottom'

·2 years ago@stainlessenginecovers Although doing this method with “select items†instead of “create rules selecting categories†will work for your currently existing active listings in a certain category, it won’t automatically throw any future listings you create in that category into the sale you make. You’d have to add the listings in manually as you create them. With “create rules selecting categoriesâ€, the listing will migrate on its own.

·2 years ago@iamalwaysright good to know. Does 'creating rules' for a 'sale' have a start/end date? Because if I list something NEW in a category, and it has very little competition- then maybe I don't want that thing 'on sale'??

·2 years agoI don't see how having an end date would solve your question of excluding a certain listing from a "category wide" sale that you created. But to answer your question, yes. The only difference from a "select items" and "create rules" sale is how you choose your listings. Every other part of the sale is the same including the start/end times.
To solve your question though, when you create the rules and add a category for instance, there's a link labeled "Want to exclude something?" That link opens this pop up where you can add your exclusions by listing ID, SKU, or ebay and store categories. I'm not exactly sure how you would denote the categories in this field as I've never had to do it before. I don't even know how ebay would recognize if it's a store or an ebay category. But the listing ID and SKU are simple enough.

·2 years agoGo to Marketing Tab, choose Promotions. Click the blue "Create a Promotion" button on the right side of the page, Go to "Sale event + Markdown" in the expanded menu. When selecting your listings, choose the "Create Rules using categories" and NOT the "select items". That'll take you to the page I screenshotted and you should be able to take it from there.
