How to respond to payment dispute from 5 months ago?
I received a payment dispute from an order that I sold at the beginning of January. I never got any notification at all about this dispute on my ebay account, so by the time I even noticed it, it was already past the time I could even reply to the dispute. What are my options here? How do I contact ebay? How can a buyer even dispute a 5+ month old sale?

If you failed to respond to the dispute in time, I do not think "contacting eBay" will change anything.
How can a buyer even dispute a 5+ month old sale?
They are allowed after 5 months because the credit card company allows it. (As an aside ... the clock starts at delivery, not at the sale. So it has probably only been 4 months.)
how are they not required to even notify me that a payment dispute was started?
Email notifications are just a courtesy. eBay does not control 95% of the pipeline that an email travels through on its winding journey from eBay to your in box. As a seller, you should be checking your seller hub every day or two. It has a convenient summary page that can show you all you need to know.

OP4 months agoit was delivered january 3 but i realize that is also within the 180 day window. also, i do check my seller hub every day. i exclusively use ebay on a desktop computer. im not sure why i was never notified of it. regardless, the ebay agent i spoke to on the phone made me feel a lot more confident about the outcome of this case.

Your seller hub has a 'Requests and Disputes' page. that is where you ar enotified about requests and disputes. They should also show up as a 'task' on the overview page.

·4 months ago@chr0mew0rld If you haven't already, I'd block that buyer.
I also would try to get that negative feedback removed. When you appeal it, explain that the feedback violates eBay policy becasue by stating you sell fakes it harms the reputation of your business, and by calling you a "bad seller" and stating that they hope you stay broke, the buyer engaged in personal attacks that harm you as a seller. They also violated policy by including images in the feedback that have nothing to do with the transaction.
I know you want your money back on the other issue, but that feedback has dropped your score to 90%. That may be bigger issue for you.
If you are selling fakes and/or not describing things accurately, you won't stick around on eBay - so if you are doing that, then I advise you to change direction and do the right thing.

·4 months agoWhat is the dispute reason? If it's "don't recognize" charge.........ebay will cover it.........

OP4 months agoits a fraudulent INAD. The buyer tried to do an INAD return on this same order a few months ago and it was denied by ebay. Now he is trying it again with the bank dispute. According to ebay TOS, a buyer cannot win a bank dispute for the same type of case (INAD, INR) that they already lost a return dispute over.
I just got off the phone with ebay a few moments ago and the rep on the phone told me this should be a pretty easy case in my favor and that even though i was unable to respond in time to the case because i was never notified, ebay had already marked in the case that the buyer was using a freight forwarder thus voiding their protection regardless and she assured my I would win the dispute. So we will see how that goes now.

The same way you would respond to it if it happened today.

·4 months agoNot really. The OP has already missed the allowable eBay time frame, so they can’t respond to the eBay case now—it’s too late. Over 30 days.

·4 months agoCredit card company allows customer 6-months to reverse payment. At this point, you are out of luck because your deadline to respond has passed.
Sorry but there is nothing EBAY can do to help you. EBAY has no control over decision that credit card company made.

OP4 months agoWhat? the buyer never left any feedback for that transaction. How are they able to not even notify me of the dispute? There is literally nothing at all I can do and I have to eat the cost of the sale?
krazzykats
·4 months agoNo, I was looking at your current feedback. That negative showing is sort of nasty and may be able to be removed by eBay.
Unfortunately, the dispute is now closed. There were time limits for filing a rebuttal, but since there was no response, it was resolved in the buyer’s favor without requiring a return.
“No returns” doesn’t necessarily mean no refunds.
Sorry, this happened, but yes, you are out the money and item.

OP4 months agohow are they not required to even notify me that a payment dispute was started? the same buyer did this a month ago where they claimed a INAD, used a freight forwarder to ship from USA to Japan, won the return case, then never shipped the item back so luckily ebay covered me then. I am waiting for them to call me back right now because this is insane. If they're going to refund the credit card company then ebay needs to cover the charge or at very very least ensure I actually get my expensive item back this time

·4 months agoI’m not sure why you weren’t contacted, so I can’t answer that. I’m just a seller here and don’t have any special access to that kind of information.
I can only share what I’ve seen happen with similar situations before.
You can scroll down to the bottom of this page and use the Contact Us link to have an agent call you. But I think the answer is still going to be the same unfortunately.

Never mind. I missed the feedback comment before it was edited and removed. Too bad the neg stayed.
However I do have a comment for you @chr0mew0rld .
In that belt listing, you state, "Message before purchase or you will be refunded."
You can't require that. If the buyer purchases and pays, you need to ship. They don't have to message you! And if you do cancel, you'd better be sure you take the defect by canceling for OOS (out of stock).

·4 months agoYou can either have the buyer return the item for a refund or just issue the refund without the return. Either way, you’ll be giving them their money back.
