How to report a listing
I reported a racist listing and was emailed that it didn't violate policies. Then I called and had a human look at it last week. It still is up. I am usually like "live and let live" but this is a disgusting racist listing, no grey area. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to share the listing number but we would happy to if allowed.
I'm not sure why Ebay thinks this is ok. How can I get them to take it down?

"Thank you for taking the time to report this to us. I have forwarded the report to the proper team and should be looked at and actioned shortly."

·2 years agoSearching for the offensive word on eBay turns up 600 listings.
It would seem that the offending word is perfectly fine in certain parts of the popular culture, as hard as it is to believe.
I'd cancel all those listings if I was in charge.

Seems more like the internet trolling of a 12 year old than anything else though.

·2 years agoI have had many historical images, by well recognized artists removed by Ebay because they found them to be racist.
Items which have been offered on Ebay since it began.
I would love to be able to relist if Ebay has changed their policy, but alas, I doubt they have, It is more likely that you failed to adequately engage whoever or whatever read your message.
I note that there are two listings related to those which Ebay took down when I listed them. Looks like the prices are now off, maybe the sellers are hoping to sell them before Ebay finds them,

I also recommend you go to Facebook and contact eBay there as well and include a screen shot with the offending text highlighted.

OP2 years agoThank you, I spoke to them on the phone and had them verify that they read the subject and they still didn't take it down, now that you have reported it as well, I hope they will

·2 years agoI don't think their AI is looking for it.
Ebay's AI doesn't catch phone numbers, website and email addresses in user profiles and some listings - things that cost ebay money and enable scammers - so I don't believe they have attempted to use AI for much of anything helpful.

·2 years agoI've seen all sorts of listings that advertise 1930s German stamps and posters which glorify the Nazis. I've seen photos on eBay of lynchings. And many other objectionable topics.
Yet eBay reports that these are all considered "historical."
I'm not sure which is worse: human intelligence or the artificial variety.

·2 years agoStamps and coins with Nazi symbols are allowed. But posters, no. Here's the distinction: posters are propaganda; their purpose is literally glorification and nothing but. Coins and stamps are government-issued realities that all citizens have to use in day-to-day life, whether or not they agree with the government's goals and actions.
