I'm trying to find my old ebay user name so I can merge my new account
Check for any old emails from eBay in the offsite email address that was associated with your old account, and your eBay ID at the time will be all over those emails.
...but yes, you are not going to be able to "merge" accounts into one. eBay doesn't have a process for doing that.

If you find the old account and it is open you can use that OR you can use the new one and start again.
