How to know if an eBay buyer is legitimate?
I am new to selling on eBay I have been on the buying end forever, but just started selling. I had a notification from a buyer on one of my items, they need it by Wednesday evening and would like me to ship overnight. It maybe totally legitimate but I noticed the buyer only shows from the US with zero buys or sells. Am I being overly cautious?

·3 years agoWhen I get those I need it by X (fill in the date), I immediately block those buyers. I can't guarantee that the post office will deliver when they need the item. Sorry but I don't jump through hoops for anyone. Do NOT feel stressed to comply to each request. Remember, you will be paying a fee on that overnight delivery charge and if the buyer does not like it and opens a case by lying, you will have to refund that fee too.

Since you posted your concern here, I think you've answered your concerns about this transaction. It's a NO GO. Better to cancel, refund, block, and move on. Case closed, NO worries. Next buyer c'mon down! ðŸ‘

If you buy overnight shipping for this order and the buyer files a Item Not As Described return case, you will be eating that shipping in a refund.
I do this occasionally for buyers but I vet their account if they ask for overnight after they already purchased. If I deem it something I would do, I cancel the sale and make them a listing they can purchase from with overnight shipping.
If it is a brand new account I check the address to find out if it is a legit company I would be shipping to. But of course, you only get the address information if they have already purchased.
A lot of my buyers are businesses....

·3 years agoYou don't have items that someone would need overnighted like a cell phone replacement because theirs broke. They're on my hinky meter.
Overnight isn't available to some locations.
Revise the listing to add PM Express overnight shipping. Or have them buy it as is and in the cart request a total and send them an amended invoice with overnight shipping.
Frankly, I would tell them sorry I can't guarantee it will be delivered overnight therefore I won't offer that method. They sound like they could be a problem.

If they want it shipped over night, they need to pay for it. If they ask you to send them your paypal account number because they are new, they're looking to scam you. Here's a few things you need to watch for that should raise some red flags:
1. Buyer asks for your email address, Paypal address
2. Buyer sends you a phone number to text/call him/her
3. Buyer asks you to buy gift cards to go with the order
4. Buyer asks you to send the item to a different address after paying
5. Buyer wants you to send the item overnight/express and will pay you a lot extra to do this
6. Buyers says that they cannot pay through the eBay website and sends you a link to click on so that the payment will go through
7. Buyer offers more for your item than the price you have it listed for
The buyer needs to pay you thru the Ebay platform and no others. They payment options are on their invoice, if they try to sway another way or threaten you with bad feedback, block them. Also, make sure the person who wins the items has the same ID name if they attempt to contact you.
Please be careful. It's a jungle full of scammers out there and new sellers are their prey.

Based on what you sell I would not worry too much about unless they pay you more for an item and want overage back in a gift card or something similar.
