How to improve my feedback rating
Summary: plantedplus2 is experiencing difficulties improving their seller rating on eBay due to issues with initial pricing errors and inventory management. albertabrightalberta pointed out that listing mistakes were their responsibility, leading to negative feedback. inhawaii and mam98031 emphasized that mismanagement of inventory cannot cause two buyers to purchase the same item simultaneously. Suggestions included improving service quality, better inventory control, and ensuring accurate listings. Other participants advised plantedplus2 to learn the platform better to avoid future errors. Positive aspects of their business, like their product quality, were also noted, but improvements in handling test listings and refunds were advised.
I am having problems getting my seller rating up. The problem I am having is whan I first put up my store I was learning how to list them and put up pictures and pricing. Customers gave no breaks in ordering before I could correct my store listings. I tried to explain that to some customers but they still gave ruin feedback. Also, I have a problem with customers ordering when there is only one item left and their order was cancelled out due to someone else ordering at the same time. I would have to explain to the customer I can cancel the order or put it on hold. They get mad and still give me a bad rating. Someone please tell me what can I do? if it is on backorder then I need to refund the customer because there is nothing on Ebay that will put the order on hold or exstend the delivery time. If there is someone please tell me.
Thank you

·1 week agoI notice this on one of your fish listings:
We do not control fish sex. Exact size cannot be guaranteed, but you will receive fish within the size range stated in the listing (with natural variation). Fish are chosen at random from current inventory.
I can't see any size range stated.......says fish can grow to 12-14", but no indication of size of the fish for sale........ that's going to confuse/disappoint some buyers......

·1 week agoIf the problem was caused by growing pains (which you yourself stated to be true) then the solution would be to educate yourself fully before jumping in.
If you need "breaks" to fix this, take your listings down. You can't expect the world to revolve around your needs.

·1 week agoListen, you seem like a reputable aquarist; your reviews talk about how friendly, healthy, and well-packed your fish are, and how beautiful your plants are. The heart of your business is good, you just need to work on how you manage your eBay.
Your hatching eggs in particular are costing you precious feedback. Frankly, you're very lucky the one who received broken eggs didn't give you a negative.
I'd pull those eggs until you can ship them safely, and even hatch a couple of your own stock to be sure you're sending out viable ones. Buyers are paying you good money for at least a few chicks, so if that means waiting until you can guarantee at least some per batch of eggs, that might be what you have to do.
If you get buyers who have no viable eggs, you'll want to refund them if they file an Item Not As Described case. If you were on your own website you could have a no refund policy, but the Money Back Guarantee overrides anything like that on eBay.
I'd definitely avoid putting up any test listings at a price you wouldn't be happy with. A well-bred ryukin at the price you listed is an absolute gem; I would be upset too if I thought I was going to get a beautiful, healthy fish for that price and the breeder canceled.
Avoid cancelling at all costs, unless a buyer explicitly asks you to. As was explained, two customers cannot purchase the same item; the system ensures only one of their requests will go through if there's only one item left.
If you need to list a few less than what you actually have (which I think would be a good idea anyway, especially for live animals or plants; accidents happen), you might want to do that to keep from an Out-Of-Stock ding. I'd pull any listing that you have for plants/animals that are gestating or germinating, and relist them once you have the physical livestock.

·1 week agoYears ago it was possible to do test listings while you were learning, you could view and search for your listings but no one could by them, haven’t seen that useful function for over 15 years!

OP1 week ago · EditedUnderstand but I was just learning how to maneuver the EBay system and did not know it automatically changed my prices when I uploaded everything. It is fixed now.

"I was learning how to list them and put up pictures and pricing. Customers gave no breaks in ordering before I could correct my store listings."
If you listed items with the wrong prices, that was your mistake. Customers don't know the price is wrong. The item is listed and assumed that the price is correct.
"I tried to explain that to some customers but they still gave ruin feedback."
There's nothing to explain. If they bought at the price you listed and you didn't send it to them, you earned the bad feedbacks.
"Also, I have a problem with customers ordering when there is only one item left and their order was cancelled out due to someone else ordering at the same time."
If you have only one item, there's no way for 2 buyers to purchase the same item. The first who buys and pays is the one who gets it.
However if you mistakenly listed a quantity of 2 when you only had one, that's YOUR mistake and again, you made a customer unhappy.
In order to raise your feedback, you need to learn to list with accurate prices and correct quantities. You can't be canceling orders because you made mistakes.

OP1 week ago · EditedHello, This is not the situation. The system posts when the item is out of stock automatically and when it is back in stock. I noticed when the item is listed as one left. The customer has to get refunded because another customer purchased at the same time. That is not my fault.

·1 week agoYou are wrong.
As @albertabrightalberta already told you, that can not happen. When there is only one item left, two people can't buy it. Period.
mam98031
·1 week agoEbay's system does NOT allow that to happen.
An item is OOS when you run out of stock that you stated was available on that specific listing. When it comes back into stock, YOU the seller updates the quantity of the item.
Having to do Cancellations is very hard on a buyer as well as the seller. It is also one of the things that can end a seller if they do it too often for OOS reasons. You need to have a better handle on your available inventory, period. You aren't in a league of your own, ALL sellers need to do this.

·1 week agoI don’t doubt you - plenty of stories on these boards about a glitch allowing for such a situation. And so many here complain that eBay ups their quantity available. I don’t necessarily think it is true, but I don’t doubt it either. Regardless - that’s all good, I suppose. Too many sales is better than no sales, right?
