How to create listing with multiple items in dropdown?
Summary: fenryswulf inquired about creating a listing with a dropdown menu to offer multiple items, like sports cards, under a single listing. mam98031 pointed out the potential for confusion with too many items, recommending around 40 and including pictures for each variant. They also provided links for creating such listings. beautifuljewelrynyc mentioned the 'Variations' feature, which is only available in certain categories. roastedsaurus explained that such listings count as one and warned about maintenance challenges. inhawaii clarified appropriate uses for variation listings, emphasizing they are best for items like t-shirts in different sizes, not completely different products.
I've seen people who have listings where it's just one listing but the listing contains a dropdown menu where you can choose from multiple items (like I've seen this with sports cards especially). They might have a few hundred items under the same main listing, and sometimes the individual items will have different quantities as well. How do I create a listing like this? Also, for the purposes of counting toward the number of listings the seller is allowed per month, does this count as one listing or however many items are included?

·3 weeks agoIt's called a "variations listing".
What it's NOT for:
Listing 100 different sports cards.
Listing 100 DVDs of different titles.
Listing 100 video games of different titles.
What it IS for:
Listing 100 t-shirts in different sizes or colors.
Listing 100 candles in different scents.
Listing 100 bags of cookies in different flavors.

·3 weeks agoAs already responded its called a variable listing and can only be done in certain categories. You will see it just before the condition field if its available for the category you've selected. It only counts as one listing. I used to do this to "stretch" my listings but its a ton of work to maintain and it can confuse buyers. But it does result in a huge number of views and watchers. See 274411949878
The table in the description helps buyers find what they are looking for but that has to be done in HTML, and we all know that with the increase in mobile buyers that no one is reading descriptions anyway.

·3 weeks agoWhile I wouldn't recommend putting a couple hundred different items in a single variation listing, I do like this type of listing. But keep in mind, the more you have in that listing, the more confusing it can be for the buyer. Personally I don't do more than 40ish items and make sure you have a picture to go with each variation you have.

While this next link is for international sellers it has some great pics and instructions too.
