how to create a listing with variations
I have tried reading different articles, asking the AI assistant for help, googling, etc and I just can not figure out how to create a listing with variations. My screen just doesn't show variations as an option and I don't see how to allow it to. I can't find a way to choose advanced listing options either. I would appreciate any help with specifics on how to find the option for variations.
Thanks -Carolyn

·9 months agoHi @katzimmel
Here is a link to the eBay Help pages that has a section on Variations. Also and as @inhawaii mentioned it does not apply to ALL categories. You also have to use a listing tool through Seller Hub, like the Advanced listing tool which the Help page provides a link to. Multi-quantity listings and listings with variations | eBay
I also see on the Advanced listing tool the section below where Variations may apply, the Learn more link would explain things further and reiterate what is in the Help page. You have our sincere best wishes that it may apply to what you are trying to list and might benefit your sales!

You are more than welcome.
If you use Seller Hub and the Sell link to the left of the Watchlist in the upper right OR the blue Create listing link on the Overview page you will be using the Advanced Listing tool to set up your listing.

·9 months agoClick on the 3 vertical dots within the Create Listing screen. Look through the additional options to enable Variations.
The "Variations" option isn't available in every category:

Multi-variation listings are now available in the following categories. Use the look up table below to find the category and subcategories with this listing feature.

OP9 months agoThank you so much for the 3 vertical dot. I had tried that before but it didn't look like it was what I wanted. When I clicked in farther, right away Variations showed up so I turned that option on for it to be shown. Thank you too for the link to see the categories that offer it. I was using Dishes in Pottery & Glass> Decorative Cookware, Dinnerware & Serveware and that category is not an option for variations. So I guess I need to use Home and Garden to get down to dishes in there.
Thank you so much!!

·9 months agoWhat category?
Some categories don't offer variations listings, in which case you may have to change to a category that allows it.

I have quite a few multiple variations listings in the same category you're considering, and other categories as well. I love the automated efficiency, savings on fees with having only one listing, and how my listings stand out from all the single-item listings in search. It also helps buyers see a bunch of offers in one listing, instead of having to do a lot of excess scrolling.
A couple things to keep in mind:
1. You can only specify one weight to apply to all of them, whether a saucer or a large platter. But you can always vary the individual listing prices to compensate for differing weights. For instance, in listings for different weights such as in a dinnerware set, you can choose a mid-range weight to apply for all of them, then either add or subtract on the price of each variation to compensate for shipping weight. The buyer will then see a true representation of the competitive cost of each item, and you won't be stuck with over- or under-charging on shipping.
2. You cannot successfully start a multiple variations listing by pulling up one of your own single listings and using "Sell Similar". You'll have to begin with one fresh listing from the start. It'll be quite a learning curve and a bit time-consuming to get your first one going, but the good news is that you can save a lot of time by using "Sell Similar" from your first multiple variations listing as a template when making more of them - even with different categories that allow variations. All you have to do then is change the details like Title, Category, Item Specifics, Description, and Shipping as applicable.
I hope this helps a fellow seller...
Cheers, Duffy

·9 months agoJust chiming in...
Variations listing is not for selling "similar" items.
It is for selling the exact SAME item but with a variation like size or color.
I'm sure you'll figure it out.
Good luck!

·9 months ago... Or in this case, specific dining set "Pieces". One can list anything shown in the "Main" photo, which should be showing all that is being individually listed and priced.
As James says, I'm also sure you'll figure it out... It's not rocket science, even though it is eBay.
