How do you feel about the 'Live Selling' on eBay?

It's quite annoying to most of us who will NEVER use it or EVER want to see it!
AND we are really tired of all the notifications.
And not to mention that this crap is probably why most of the other features on eBay don't work correctly!

It felt like a circus to me and why are there Chinese people selling on here? Don't they use Temu, or are people realizing how dangerous it is?

·1 month agoWhat would be a really smart idea (which is few and far between on eBay) is if they launched another site for the stupid eBay live selling. I have not and will never do any live selling on any platform but this live eBay crap is really getting annoying. Every time I get on eBay or the app all I get is somebody, who I care nothing about, is LIVE!!!!

I don't see why they would have a separate app for the live auctions, makes sense to me, unless they have plans for the website altogether.
I won't touch the live auctions because they ALL appear to be scammers. , but the intrusiveness of them and not being able to access anything because of it is really making me hate ebay with a passion, that plus these foreigners who keep buying my stuff and demanding it ship it thru ebay, or demanding refunds for free shipping or report me for not wanting to use ebay international shipping.
Ebay is really getting worse.

If you’ve checked out Whatnot or TikTok Live, you know this is how a huge number of people are shopping now. If eBay doesn’t take it seriously, they risk becoming irrelevant.
There’s a lot of opportunity for sellers, but probably not with the same items you currently list on eBay. If you’re unfamiliar with live selling, spend some time on Whatnot. Leave any show that bores you or stinks. There are dozens live in every category at any time.
I attended eBay Open last year and started researching Live selling afterward. Now I’m expanding into a new category and starting on eBay Live in two weeks. I think it's an excellent opportunity for sellers to expand their sales and for eBay too.
It's not the same. It's not a replacement. It's a different experience and business model altogether, in most cases.
Now, we can be our own HSN or QVC!!!

I dont mind live selling as part of ebay better on ebay than have them at whatnot. But ebay execs again chasing the live selling but forgot the rest of the site until it hits them. Its almost like some of these people lack foresight.

·1 month agoThese live sellers are getting $3 an item on clothing. Many don't act professional or show items properly. More and more are on each day. My sales have STOPPED since April. Very sad as I have adored my 20+ years on eBay to this point. I can't believe eBay would intentionally drive away loyal sellers like this!

·1 month agoIt’s cringy, pathetic, and sad. eBay only missed the whole social media thing by 15 - 20 years. They make money despite themselves, not because anyone with any creative talent or intelligence is running the company. For the last 15 years, nearly every single thing the corporate leadership has done has missed the mark and alienated their base to chase irrelevant trends and customers who will never use eBay.

·1 month agoIt would be fine if they put it on a separate app instead of shoving it in our faces. It angers me because when I try to do something the full page live auctions cover everything else so I can't do anything else. It took me 10 minutes just to get to the help section AND I had to login to it, and was greeted by a full page auction, the damn homepage. The app is buggy, ebay is a scam, I really don't like it. In nearly 25 years of shopping and selling on it it's almost at rock bottom to me. The only thing worse is foreigners trying to buy my items. I've canceled them because I won't use ebay shipping for it.
They don't seem to care enough about hearing our complaints about it, we need to take our business elsewhere. Maybe if enough people leave, then they will listen?

·2 months agoEbay Live has existed for more of your time here than it hasn't. It likely has nothing to do with the amount of your sales. People are not buying single replacement items of silverware on live sales.

·1 month agoIn clothing many of these live sellers are selling merchandise at extremely inflated prices then continuing to have much higher visibility and sales than everyone else, at the most crazy, inflated prices I have ever seen. It’s as if they people buying don’t comprehend there are significantly cheaper options available by doing any search.

·2 months agoI have been a small seller on ebay since 2012. It is almost to the point of what is the point of selling on ebay anymore. The b/o option and now sellers always making offers if a potential buyer has even viewed their listing make selling on ebay worse than a garage sale. The time to list, ship etc. It is very sad. This new live shopping only lessons their brand even further. Its similar to etsy. These companies have a great model and then constantly have to change it, only considering their bottom line and not their customers!

·5 months agoI started using uBlock Origin on the ebay website. Its a browser extension that allows you to remove ads AND any content you don't want to see ever again. You click on a Live sale window with your right mouse button, then "Block Element" in the context menu. You may have to repeat this a couple times until all DIV containers underneath are removed.
While I was at it, I also removed the stupid "Download the app for 5 bucks" pop-up that shows up every minute, and other garbage.
The extension also removes any and all commercials from YouTube etc.

·5 months agoThe "Live Selling" gimmick is absolute garbage. It's tacky and seizure-inducing. Feels like Las Vegas threw up on my home screen. It's bad enough on the desktop but on the mobile app? Seriously? It's just absurd. One of Ebay's strengths has always been the clean simplicity of its interface and they just chucked that in the crap-can. Sober up Ebay. Do better.

·1 month agoEB Live is the new Whatnot, but it definitely needs revamping and fine tuning. If the seller is on the American site and selling from China, there's not a chance in hel we will buy their goods because of tariffs.....So why is EB Live showing the China seller (whose speaking Chinese) to an American audience. I think EB needs to go back to the drawing board.

·5 months agoPushing these live sales so massively and everywhere, is the equivalent to solicitors showing up at your front door, ignoring all the No-Solicitation signs in the community and at your door, then knocking on the door when you don't react to ringing the doorbell 3 times.
It's a sure way to make sure that I will remember the business name, service or product you are trying to promote. And I will make sure that you will never get a single cent from me. And for being so obnoxious, I will sit down for an hour and leave a dozen negative reviews too. You do the math how that works out for your business.

·5 months agoI'm not the smartest person when it gets to computers and smart phones as I got my first smart phone about 6 years ago and still use the same one. The last week or two when I am checking my 50 or so listings or when I am doing a search for new listings or sold items or checking my listings, my smart phone seems to lock up and turns black and says reload and I have click reload. Then it goes back to the beginning of my listings and I have to scroll fast to get through the listings before it says reload again. Same thing when I am checking new listings and sold items from other people. I scroll down 40 or 50 items fairly quickly before it quits showing items again and quits showing additional items. I could be wrong but is this because they have so many live auctions that it can't download the data fast enough. Just asking but its irritating and has only been doing that since the live auctions are featured.

·5 months agoIf it goes the way Posh has been going, there will be some interesting knowledgeable shows, some engaging shows, a bunch of shows with guys pushing luxury bags, and a bunch of sellers begging you to buy their stuff for like $3.
So, mixed bag. On Posh the beggars sometimes seem like the majority. 😒

ebay has provided very little information about the details of how ebay Lives are actually handled. We know (I think) that fees aren't handled the same way as static fees, but not much more. I suspect that, in order to continue Live selling, sellers probably have to meet certain benchmarks. Basically, I think ebay is being pretty selective in order to avoid the "beggars" crowding out the sellers and inventory ebay wants to push.
My guess---only a guess---is that ebay actually has NO intention of ever opening Lives to every seller who wants to try it, or if they do, there will be strict limitations, like: one 1 hour show per month, or something like that.
One thing I've seen (on other Live platforms) is some sellers really evolve over time---they make changes to their approach, they start marketing much more effectively, they change their product selection, often niching down. And eventually, they build a real audience.
Others realize it's simply not for them.
Livestreaming isn't going away. Jamie has made a clear commitment to it...if he seemed to be on the fence about it during it's first few years, he has made clear he's going to push it now. It's like AI----we might not like it, but ebay does, and that's all that really matters.

Well I got used to the AI thing but this is different.
AI isn't nearly as offensive to me as these huckster moving ads shoving purses, trading cards and athletic shoes in my face when I log in. None that interest me in the slightest.
I get it though, from a business point of view going for the modern instant gratification social media crowd is probably a demographic worth targeting.
It seems that offending old school buyers is a decision eBay management thinks is worth it. The loss of my business is no doubt acceptable collateral damage.
There's a couple more items I intend to purchase but after that I'll look elsewhere even if it costs me a bit more. At least I'll be comfortable shopping elsewhere. At least for awhile (I hope)..............

As a seller without doing live selling, my sales fall sharply once the Live selling promotion starts. I have zero sales today, but received a dozen notifications regarding live selling.

·5 months agoTotally HATE IT !!! My sign in / opening page is now EBAY LIVE !!!! WTH ???? I did NOT ask for that ! I thought it was only me. AND, I thought it was only the mobile app too, so I uninstalled and re-installed and it's STILL there ! I used to see the eBay Live OPTION at the bottom of my screen, NOW it's the first thing I see when I open !!!!!
IF YOU want that, I don't care, BUT the way it is now, it's being FORCED on me and I don't like it !!
HOW DO I GET MY ORIGINAL OPENING SCREEN BACK ?????? I've been on eBay for YEARS.

·5 months agoIt is obnoxious and clearly designed to promote a service that likely generates higher fees for ebay. Now I have to stop the default video that's playing manually and am left with a mess on the screen until I access my account. Guess I'm too old to appreciate being bombarded with offers for items that I have no interest in. Reminds me of a cross between amateur QVC and a reality video game.

Agree that the eBay.com home page is a real clown show with all those lives.
But I never look at it and only learned that from your post.
I use the Manage Active Listings page as my own home page and go from there.
I use a dedicated browser just for eBay and it always opens to my own custom home page.
For me, it's Manage Active Listings, but you could pick Manage All Orders, Seller Hub, etc.

Some (many of those sellers) may want to re evaluate their decision to do it. As it appears it is causing many of them to take a hit in their ratings. Just check it out... Neg (eBay live) Neg (eBay live) and so on and so forth, Neg (eBay live). I'll stick with slow to non existent sales any day of the week over impulsive buyers that pass out red donuts like its candy without any regards to a sellers reputation while not being given any recourse for the sellers which are being crushed by it.
That, and along with sellers receiving negs for continually cancelling orders on items they've sold live. And why so many cancellations to begin with? So I'll just sit here quietly being one of those sellers eBay deems dispensable and just wait for the next little morsel to come by my way.

·5 months agoI am in the camp of not understanding the attraction. Seems like a great way to make poor purchasing decisions, having about 20 seconds to look at it. And with many items described as "item on screen" its difficult to claim a NAD.
One in particular I watched had a totally obnoxious seller. Long time ago someone told me in collecting to try to remember you are buying the item, not the seller, but the live sellers are so "in your face" that its hard not to feel that buying from them is tacit approval of them.
So I watched three or four of them, probably for about 45 minutes in total combined, all with my mouse as far away from the bid button as I could get it ...

·5 months agoI hate them. Nothing I'm even remotely interested in with ugly disgusting AI thumbnails, thrust upon me without my consent. The home page doesn't even show my feed or my browsing history at the top anymore, just another intrusive stream and a qr code. I'd love to be able to block them.

·5 months agoYes this is on my home page also, too flashy and redundant for an old school seller. I'm assuming this is why my Ebay page says I need to send offers, yet when I try to send a offer it's says there is no one to send a offers to. They also claim I have no active offers yet I have 8 items for sale. Guessing they aren't visible to buyers unless I give Ebay more fees to be live. As usual, they push these other events and my sales just stop cold. Glitches , glitches and more Glitches it does get old. However, My fees are taken out with precise accuracy. Lol. Not complaining just another observation.

·5 months agoSo today I see that eBay has put the Live streams at the top of the main page. I don't want to see any of them. So dumb to be pushing this so much! devon@eBay or someone else please give us an option to opt out of seeing these feeds!

·5 months agoThe successful online live sellers I am familiar with post pictures (without pricing) ahead of time what will be in the live sale, and therefore create an interested audience to show up on time.
With the masses declining attention spans, including myself, I believe in order to get a turnout, and in order to hold attention, the products offered must be vetted by the audience ahead of time, the sale itself should move rapidly, and good deals/ value must be ‘worth it’.
