How do I not refund somebody for shipping but for everything else.

Recently I sold an item to somebody who made an offer. The next day I bought the label and packaged it up to send out the next morning. That night the buyer, who had already payed, asked me a question about a slight defect in the item which is very clear from the pictures. After unpacking it and sending more pictures, the buyer decided that they no longer want the item. This is fine and I happily refunded the buyer the $65 for the item itself. Except I can't cancel the order without refunding shipping aswell, but I already bought the label and the buyer decided they decided that they didn't want the item until after this. How can I get around refunding the shipping. Its completely unfair to me that I would have to go into my pocket to refund the shipping when the buyer didn't ask me to hold out until after shipping was purchased. This should be their liability and not mine and I want to relist the item without refunding the shipping money. How can I do this?

You can't. A cancellation citing 'Buyer requested' is your best tack. Then void your shipping label. Good luck.

You have 5 days to void the shipping label.
Go to your shipping labels and click Void in the menu next to the label.
It'll take 3 to 4 weeks to receive the refund.

Cancel the order as buyer requested and refund.

The buyer should get a full refund. You didn't mail the item, so just void the label and you'll get that refunded back to you in a couple weeks (if it's USPS).

Edit: I just looked at a couple of your sold items and they show FedEx, so others can advise about those labels since I only use USPS. Regardless, buyer should get full refund.

FIRST void shipping label: Go to ORDERS, SHIPPING LABEL (void label). Then refund shipping to customer: Go to ORDERS, ALL ORDERS (click on item and select SEND REFUND).
