How do I list the pieces I have to sell without listing them individually...want to sell what I havI
Summary: A participant is seeking advice on how to list and sell dishes without having to list each item individually. onefootflipper suggests using a variation listing, where photos of all items are taken and listed with variations, such as cups, saucers, and other items. searksales advises checking other sellers' listings to understand the format and suggests verifying the demand by examining sold listings, sharing a personal experience of unsold dishes. pls-consignments and meme6253 discuss packaging considerations, emphasizing careful packing and the challenge of high shipping costs when selling them as a bulk lot. The discussion revolves around finding effective strategies for selling multiple items online efficiently.
I have at least 15 place settings. But also have serving platters and bowls.... cereal bowls small bowls tea cups and saucers...tea pot with lid cream and sugar salt and pepper shakers

·4 months agoMaybe consider starting with smaller accent or serving pieces from that set. Lots of people break, lose, or never bought these smaller items (or didn't receive them as a wedding gift). If you have a salt & pepper shaker set or a gravy boat, that would be a great place to start. They don't weigh much, fit in small shipping boxes, and are easy to wrap. Steer clear of serving platters, teapots, and serving bowls. They're heavy, awkward, and teapots can be tricky to wrap.

·4 months agoVery simple you list them together as a bulk lot, Although with serving pieces like that you need to pack them extremely well to prevent any damage during shipping & the shipping cost would be astronomical!

Hmm.. are you advising her to ship an entire china set together... so that her shipping would be "astronomical"?
meme6253
·4 months agoNo I'm not advising her to do so, Only that is one option for her not wanting to sell them individually, Just letting her know the shipping cost would be astronomical. Her choice

You're going to be better off listing this set on Facebook Marketplace, for the reasons set forth by Onefoot.

·4 months agoYou already have problems with your listings. The listing is a complete mess. There is NO WAY you are going to be able to properly ship those for the shipping prices you have listed.
Also, you have in the item specifics;
Set Includes: sold by the piece. (but the listing itself is for all of it)
That is NOT the way to set up a listing. You really need to end these listings and re-do them properly otherwise you are going to have a lot of issues with buyers.

·4 months agoI am glad to see most of the important reasons not to begin an Ebay experience with this partial set of China have been enumerated.
This is not a matter of procedures or techniques. It is a strategic question, the market for ceramic pieces for mosaics is not large enough.

·4 months agoThe seller of these dishes, according to their feedback, just opened their ebay account today.
Talk about diving into the deep end head first.
If the OP is still here, do you have any idea how to safely package and ship even small quantities of breakables, have you read ebays selling terms and policies, do you know there is a 30 day hold on payments for new sellers, have you given ebay your bank account info and SS# for ebay to pay you....
So much to understand, before you dive in listing a set such as this.

·4 months agoAs others have pointed out, this is not a single listing. The weight alone necessitates some level of parting out. The shipping cost for 15 place settings, without all the extras, will be gruesome. I second, or third, the idea that a single place setting at a time is probably the best way to go.
There is no maker/designer/potter listed in one of the two listings and no pics of that essential information. The listings you currently have up are disasters waiting to happen, to both you and any potential buyer. If you haven't been selling this type of item, this is absolutely not the way to start. How much experience do you have packing pottery/glass? Do you have any idea what this stuff weighs? Which carrier are you planning on using (USPS won't take it and UPS will trash it)? Where did you come up with your prices?
Honestly, this is one of those cases where you may be best off with something like FB marketplace.

·4 months agoThe pattern you have is called Nikko Secret Garden. They don't really sell. 225 listed only 19 sold, all single pieces or small lots.
The highest recorded sale in 3 years was a 20 piece set that sold for $155 shipped in 2025. That was also the ONLY large lot sale of these dishes recorded in the last 3 years.
If you have nothing else to sell on ebay then you are wasting your time with these. It will take you years to unload them as pieces and they will never sell as a group.

·4 months agoOMG...You need to end that listing with a $500 price. It is so confusing. It doesn't say what you will get for the $500, under item specifics it says number of pieces: sold by the piece.
If you are selling it as a set, you need to list and count the number of pieces, and put that in your description and especially your title.
I would break it up and do separate listings for each item.
Your $400 listing is more clear, but you are way under pricing the shipping on that many pieces. To ship what is listed in that listing would be multiple boxes and very heavy. It is showing $21 shipping to my zip and I am on the same coast as you. It is going to cost a few hundreds dollars to ship what is in that listing.
I'd end both listings, and start from scratch because you will be doing alot of work packing and end up in the hole when all is said and done with those shipping rates.

OP4 months agoI'm sorry not sure what I'm doing here...

·4 months agoYes, definitely end both listings because you are going to have major problems if they sell.
You need to read ebays terms of sale, and how to list an item on ebay.
understand the listing fees for selling an item.
Understand how to package and mail them.
Understand how to figure out how to approximate the weight and size of the boxes so you don't charge less than what it is going to cost to ship them. Right now the $400 listing is showing $7+ to ship all those dishes to me if I was to purchase them. it would probably cost upwards of $300 to ship that set.
If you want to start selling on ebay, list one small non-breakable item just to test the waters to see if you are up to selling on ebay.
There are so many things to understand before you jump in listing a full set of dinnerware.
Welcome to ebay and good luck with your sales.

·4 months agoYep, list individually in smaller, even-numbered sets such as two piece settings, or sets of 4 plates, bowls etc. It will be dependent upon sold comps and sell-through rates.
However, keep in mind that the buyer demographic for fine china is elderly with fixed income, and like other boomers, rapidly fleeting. Add in a poor economy and you may be staring at them for awhile. So, unless you have something special, proven by robust "sold" comps, you may be better off listing the whole lot on FB.

·4 months agoYou really need to end those listings (looks like two for the same set anyway) and rethink how to list them. They are beautiful, but I haven't looked up how well they sell.
A few years back I sold a whole set of china, but I only listed a couple items at a time. I did not want some buyer asking me to combine these fragile items. As mentioned, currently your shipping is in no way correct for what those will require to ship. Do you have packing boxes and packing materials?
If you do decide to list pieces individually be sure to take a photo of the back to show the maker and list the brand and pattern name in your title and item specifics.
Have you tried to sell the set locally and have the buyer pick them up?

OP4 months agoI'm new at this if I listed them twice it was a mistake....I'm just trying to sell these cause they are just taking up space...I don't use them.... Should I start over with my listing...not sure how to correct it

Were I you, I'd end both listings until you know what you mean to be doing. Then read through the TOS (and make sure you're onboard with Managed Payments) before you figure out how to list them again. Good luck.

OP4 months agoI delete my account please check for me to see if the listing is gone...thank you
gb58
·4 months agoYou didn't delete your account. and there is no need to delete your account.
All you need to do is end the listings.
To do that, go to your seller Hub, at the top you will see "listings", click on active listings.
to the left of each listing you will see 'edit" there is a drop down with one of the choices "end listing". that is where you can end both of these listings.
tr_966036

You need to fix your shipping.
There's no way you're going to be able to ship for what it shows.

·4 months agoI suggest you search completed sold items to see if there is any interest in you place settings and everything else - a large set like that - how big a box do you need to ship it all, can you lift it, will the P.O. accept it, and will a customer pay that much for shipping.
Break up the set...
Sell by the place setting
Sell the Teapot, Creamer and Sugar as a set
Salt and pepper as a set
Serving platters separately
Serving Bowls separately
Tea cup and saucer - one listing - add quantity
Small bowls as a set - if there are 15 - break it up further.
Cereal bowl as a set - if there are 15 - break it up further.

·4 months agoI have never done one before but I think you can do a variation listing.
You could take photos of all the items.
Have one listing with the variations of each item.
15 cups
15 saucers
1 salt & pepper set
1 tea pot
etc........
I have seen others do this so that is why I am responding. Maybe check out a few sellers of plates and such and see if you can find a variation listing to get a feel of what it looks like and what it does.
onefootflipper
·4 months agoA variation listing takes longer than listing the items separately.
Also, being that this is a potential new seller they really need to examine sold listings to see if anyone even buys what they are trying to sell. I know I took in some dishes from one of my wife's co-workers because it seemed like they sold. Been sitting on 20+ listings of them for six weeks, haven't even had one show up to send out an offer yet.

List them together.
