How do I contact ebay? The automated assistant isn't working for me and I can't find a phone number.
Summary: A participant is seeking assistance on how to contact eBay because the automated assistant isn't working, and they can't find a phone number. The discussion threads include several responses, indicating different participants attempting to provide guidance or solutions, although specific details of these responses are not provided in the content.
I need to speak to someone at ebay. I have tried the automated chat assistant, but the only option it shows is to contact them by email, and that is grayed out. I can't click on it. Is there any way to speak to a representative? The chat has always been very helpful in the past, but what do we do when it's not working and we have an emergency?

·2 weeks agoebay is having problems,i use there shipping labels,a shipping label recently was identified as error and usps identified the label as counterfeit, because of this my package was conficated through usps, and ebay wrongfully refunded the buyer when it was a error or glinch produced by them which is stopped in transit ,now they wont take any of my calls and they wrongfully stole almost a hundred dollars for this pkg. USPS will not let me retreive it as it got sent to a special dept, they said only the provider can correct the problem which is ebay but now my phone calls are being blocked or something. i may have to bring this to the attorney generals attention as its clearly stealing.

You've received a lot of good advice however what I have to add hasn't been mentioned yet on this thread.
Although you claim you don't want to accept returns and your items are sold "as is," you have a 30 day return policy so you MUST take returns for any reason. (That's what a return policy allows -- buyers can return for any reason or for no reason.)
Since your concern is with "the most expensive item" you have, I assume it's the Gucci fanny pack, which does have a 30 day return policy with the buyer paying return shipping.
But if the buyer is claiming that it's "not as described," you must accept the return and pay return shipping unless you want to issue the refund without requiring the buyer to return it.
With that said, I have my own concerns with the item. Are you positive that it's authentic Gucci?
Claiming you sold it "as is," your "listing is as clear as can be" and you "told them all I know about the item" sounds to me that you aren't positive that it's authentic. And if that's the case, upon receipt of the return and issuance of the refund, the first thing you need to do next is verify authenticity!!

Ebay hasn't had a Call Center since the Pandemic. So if you do run across a phone number, it may be a scam so be very careful.
On each Ebay page there is a link to contact Customer Service at the top of the page and again at the bottom of the page.
I would suggest that you contact Ebay for Business on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter for the better trained CSRs.
Here are your options for contacting Ebay Customer Service. Please be aware that for social media CS, you send them a Private Message and briefly explain what your problem or issue is. Feel free to leave your Name, address, phone number and/or your email address in this message. It is private and secure and it may help to speed up the response for you.
https://twitter.com/askebay
https://www.facebook.com/ebay
https://www.instagram.com/ebayforsellers/
Your options will be on the left. If you use the link below you can only get to the Automated Assistant or Chat box type AGENT in the box and hit enter. You will then get more options. Not all options are available 24/7. It will depend on staffing available. So sometimes you can request a call back and sometimes you can't. Sometimes you have the Chat option available and other times it won't me. If it is important to you to use one of those options, just try back later.
If you use a cell phone or other mobile device, you may need to turn off your Spam filter so that Ebay can call you.
If you are a seller outside of the US or Canada, you will need to use the Chat Option.

OP10 months agoThank you so very much for the links.
I have contacted ebay a few times through the Automated Assistant in the past. It always gave me the option to chat with an agent or receive a call back. Last week I was trying to contact ebay and only received the option to contact them through email. However, now it still only shows the option to contact them by email but that option is grayed out. The automated assistant feature isn't even working (which it was never helpful anyway). I've tried clearing my cache, and other computer tricks, with no luck. I've tried another computer. I've tried my phone. I don't know if there is a problem with my account, or if it's just me.
If you, or anyone else, has any insight as to what is going on with that feature, I'd like to know about it.
Thank you for sharing the links

Emails with Customer service, in my experience, take way too long because the first couple I would get they would give me information on stuff that did not pertain to what I even asked. It isn't a method I would willingly use again. We have other options that are much better.

OP10 months agoI truly appreciate all the responses.
I do not like what I'm reading (please do not take that the wrong way - I have to throw in a little bit of honesty mixed with humor in order to keep my sanity in times like this).
It is helpful to know that you all are here for me and that you understand the frustration. I'm really bummed though. I'm just glad that most buyers are not like this one.

·10 months agoYou'll know that your buyer filed an INAD claim when eBay sends you a notification of said claim. Have you received a notice?
If you have that notice, go in and select return for refund, eBay should send the buyer a prepaid return shipping label. You will only get charged for it when/if it is used.
Now if said buyer is ahem 'honest' they will send that item back and when it shows delivered to you, you will get another notice from eBay to refund buyer.
Now, review item, if things are good with it, re-take photos, relist it, resell it. You can also raise the price slightly and get some of your costs back. 🙂
It sold once, it'll sell again. (you might also block list that buyer)

·10 months agoHad to respond to your "do not like what I'm reading".
Sorry, but that doesn't really matter. ALL eBay sellers, as well as buyers, need to get acquainted with the Money Back Guarantee, preferably BEFORE they begin to sell here. Evidently you did not do that. Now might be a good time to learn about it.
gottahavedoodads
OP10 months agoI am basically familiar with the Money Back Guarantee, but as a person who always tries to be as honest and upfront as possible, I made the huge mistake of hoping all buyers would be honest. I have had mostly positive experiences with my buyers and haven't had to worry about the 'customer is always right' part of the MBG.
My comment about not liking what I was reading was meant to add some humor (mainly for my own sake because I realize this isn't a comedy platform). I was pretty much expecting bad news, but was hoping for some glimmer of hope.
Thank you for your feedback.

·10 months agoEBAY Money Back Guarantee (supersedes "no refund" policy) allows the customer to lie and claim "not as described, counterfeit, defective". EBAY does NOT require the customer to prove their claims. EBAY always rules in favor of the customer.
Don't waste your time or energy trying to fight this claim as you cannot win. Anytime you "ask EBAY to step in" you get a "defect" against your account for losing the case.
I know how frustrating this must be but it all part of selling on EBAY.

OP10 months agoThank you all for the responses. How do I know if they have filed an INAD?

It's INAD. You answered with your earlier statement, "How do I handle a buyer who claims the item I sent them isn't right."
jonathanbrightlight
·10 months agoINAD is an acronym for Item Not As Described. It is a classification of return request, as opposed to a remorse return like “Changed Mindâ€.

OP10 months agoHow do I handle a buyer who claims the item I sent them isn't right. I described all the issues with the item, in detail, and took plenty of good photos. I also listed the item 'as is' just in case someone tried to pull something, yet they are requesting a refund and they don't even want to pay return shipping. I don't trust this. They bought the most expensive item I have. I think they are just trying to scam me. I don't want bad feedback, but yet I don't want to refund them when my listing is as clear as can be. I told them all I know about the item. I try to always be careful and give as many details as I can.

·10 months ago@gottahavedoodads ,
Unfortunately, eBay has an iron clad MBG that protects their buyers. Your only choice is to accept the return and issue a return shipping label on your dime. I would strongly suggest you bone up on eBay’s MBG for buyers if you are not familiar with it. Most of the time a buyer will open a INAD claim with eBay so they can return the item and not have to pay for return shipping. Most of the time it is someone who got buyer’s remorse.
Once, you get the item back you will have to refund the buyer in full including the original shipping. If you refuse after 3 business days and try to fight the return the buyer can ask eBay to step in. When eBay steps in, they will issue the buyer a full refund from your funds and let the buyer keep the item. It doesn’t matter if the buyer is not telling the truth. There is no such thing as selling something “as is†on eBay. Savvy buyers know they can get return shipping paid by the sellers by opening false INAD cases. If you fight the INAD case not only will you have refund the buyer in full, lose your item, and also get a serious ding on your selling record. Getting too many dings will end your career selling on eBay early or if you are lucky and you are allowed to continue your FVFs will increased by 5%.

·10 months agoIf the buyer has filed an INAD and you want it returned before refunding, accept the return and provide a shipping label.
The MBG overrules your As Is.

·10 months agoyet they are requesting a refund and they don't even want to pay return shipping.
@gottahavedoodads
If your buyer is just messaging you, you need not do much of anything UNTIL they formally file for a return. eBay will let you know your buyer has filed a return request. Otherwise, you can just respond to the message with something like this:
Dear Buyer,
So very sorry to hear you are not pleased with your purchase. Please return it for a full refund.
Sincerely,
You
You are not required to provide instructions on how to do this to the buyer. As suggested upthread, buyers know how to get a "free return". What is worse is that they can just about send ANYTHING back and you will be refunding regardless of what is in the parcel. That is how it works here, and it is best to know your risk tolerance BEFORE listing anything for sale on the platform.
Please do not make business decisions based of the presumption that "maybe" you will get a red donut feedback review. They don't count against your seller standing anyway.

You can ask here. The chat and/or call back agents you get on eBay are typically in foreign call centers and have no authority to help you with important matters that are not covered in the policy pages. They are always pleasant and respectful, but often not useful. If you follow any inappropriate advice and your problem gets worse it is going to be on you.
At least if you get some advice here, at least you know later if the CS agents tell you something that is "off" or not right.
