I've been selling for almost 23 years on ebay and this is a first.

I need to know if any other sellers have experienced this. I had an item listed for $650. I allowed offers, but didn't list it with a minimum offer nor did I offer a 20% off. I got an ebay message that it sold for $520. I immediately messaged the buyer and asked if they made an offer. I thought I might have made a mistake listing it since most of the time when listing "sell similar" there is an extremely low amount there I have to delete. The buyer told me "no" ebay sent her a message for 20% off. I finally was able to contact a representative. He told me not to worry. This was something new ebay was doing and to be reassured I would be compensated by ebay. I completed the sale hoping that conversation and my messages to the buyer were documented.

When the compensation didn't show up I contacted ebay two more times. They claimed I entered a minimum offer amount and ebay did not owe me. I paid for this valuable item, ebay made over $70 and I lost. I'm not as worried about the $130, but really hesitant to list many other items I've invested in.

It's bad enough that ebay hasn't made this process/options clear to sellers, but the phone reps are totally clueless and actually are making it worse with their responses.

I actually think the settings are clear, but sellers need to look at settings - not just enter an amount and click submit.

Agreed about CS reps - we see that every day on pretty much any topic.

Because there's no strikethrough on the sold search page, but we can see the lower sale price on Product Research, that confirms this was a seller initiated offer (SIO).

If you don't remember sending out an offer, you may have done it a while ago, and not realized eBay defaults the option to send automatic offers. You need to turn off automatic offers otherwise eBay will keep sending them. This happens to a lot of sellers that rush through the process without looking at all of the settings.

Automatically send offers

You can save time by enabling offers to be sent automatically to buyers interested in your current listings . You can change the settings for your automatic offers by going to active listings and selecting the status With offers sending automatically. This filters all your listings with the automation setting enabled.

Select View Offer settings to manage your automation setting.

Here you'll be able to:

Enable or disable offers from being sent automatically
Adjust the automatic offer amount
Turn on or off counteroffers
Change your message

To turn off automatic seller initiated offers

Go to Seller Hub.
In the Search section, select the All statuses dropdown and filter for "With offers sending automatically".
Select Search.
Select View offer settings.
Select the > symbol next to Automatically send offers.
Set the blue switch next to Automatically send offers to Off.
Select Done.
Select Update offer settings.

Correction: Those instructions from the help page are for the old Seller Hub format. Since eBay changed the Seller Hub navigation, I believe the new path is to click:

All Filters > Status > then there should be an option under there for listings with automatic offers enabled.
