How can I verify what a buyer pays for shipping before accepting international Best Offer?
I received a Best Offer for a relatively large item, to be shipped to Mexico. The listing is set up to calculate shipping based on weight and destination, plus insurance, but the offer shows a shipping price that is way too low. I want to verify what the buyer will actually pay for shipping, and confirm that it will include appropriate insurance.
I suspect the shipping price displayed is for my own zip code (due to ebay defaults in the app), but I'd like to be certain before I agree to the offer. Actual shipping will be closer to $150, not the $22 shown, and I don't want to have to pay the difference myself. I also want the item insured in case it gets lost or "lost".
TIA

·3 years agoThe new Ebay International shipping program does NOT ship to Mexico? Why? The postal systems and customs is full of thieves. I would not ship a nickel to Mexico. This is one time where you definitely should follow Ebay's advise and if they do not ship there, you should not either for a pricey/heavy item.

·3 years agoSince you are using ebay international shipping you will only pay the shipping cost to the US shipping hub in IL.

·3 years agoI would not send anything to Mexico.
The only way I would ever ship any items to Mexico is with UPS or USPS Priority.
We lost way to many items when thay asked for First Class Mail.
Just an FYI for you.

For those sellers that are in it, the new EIS program takes all the heat for international shipping. Seller gets it to the domestic hub. Seller is done.

·3 years agoThanks. Yes, I know about the new program and its benefits. I haven't opted out because it seems like a sweet deal for sellers.
My mistake in the suggestion I made to the OP was that I was not aware that prior to the new program the FVFs were calculated based on domestic prices. I had thought they were based on the total the international buyer paid. And I guess I didn't know that ALL sellers had been opted in to the new program. I thought Ebay was opting sellers in in waves.
I'm glad that I have the facts now. 🙂

·3 years agoIs it the helmet? If so, when I switch the shipping destination to Mexico, it comes up $147.35.
I put in some other US zip codes-- one for your town, for California, Chicago, etc. Yours is showing $22, but others are showing in the $40s. So your offerer is seeing the correct amount to his location.
If you're enrolled in the newest international shipping program, you may be seeing just the amount it costs to get the item to the hub before they mail it to Mexico. Even in that case though, your buyer would see the full amount he'd have to pay for shipping on both legs.
Be prepared for the fees if you accept the offer to Mexico and you're not enrolled in the shipping program.

·3 years agoWhat fees are you referring to? When you make an International sale the fees on shipping are based on your lowest DOMESTIC shipping not what the International buyer pays.
example:
Domestic shipping = $5
International shipping charged to foreign buyer = $20
Final Value Fees charged by eBay will be based on $5
There is the additional "International fee" of 1.65% but this is not related to the shipping charges.

·3 years agoThanks for that info.
I haven't offered international shipping since covid started, though that's changed with this new program. I thought that if you weren't enrolled in the new program, the FVFs you pay are based on the total amount the buyer pays. Good to know that's not the case. This OPs FVFs wouldn't be higher for the internationally-bound item.

Sellers are "auto enrolled" into the program.
There is an "opt out" procedure for those that do not want the excellent benefits of the new EIS program.
The OP is in the EIS program just as you are.

When I change my location to Mexico it shows $147.00
Go to your listing and click on the Shipping, returns & payments tab above your description. Then change the Country setting to Mexico to see what it shows you.
