Horrible Timing On Order Cancellation, Blocked From Cancelling
So, today I had an order cancellation come in during the 60 second window while I was packing and printing the label. I got the notification of the request seconds after printing the label.
Now I am stuck, ebay refuses to let the order be cancelled because the item was "shipped". Even cancelling the label didn't change that. It won't let me manually cancel it because a cancellation already exists.
I refunded the buyer fully, but I know that somehow, someway I will be dinged by this.

Cancel the label.
Let the customer know your dilemma.
Don't ship.

·8 months agoran into this problem last week and just noticed this message today when I went to send the buyer a reply (see attached screenshot). I only ship on Wednesday so the label for this has not even been made downloaded yet. If they wanted to cancel, it would be very easy for me to refund the money. But now I have to jump through hoops to do it.

Also I never see the money back in my account once I pay for a label and then have to cancel due to an issue with the buyers address. Not one time.

·8 months agoThis happened to me last week. I called ebay to find out how to handle this. They told me to refund the customer in full and the order will automatically cancel, and there won't be any "ding" to your metrics. So far, so good.
Just refund them in full and you're all set. As long as the buyer requested this, you're fine.

·8 months agoI wait at least 4 hours after someone buys an item before shipping it. If the purchase happens while I’m asleep, it might take a little more time...
This seems to give buyers enough time to cancel if needed.
I started doing this after mailing items and then getting cancellation requests soon afterward.
It seems to have solved the problem since most cancellations happen within the first 4 hours.

·8 months agoI was thinking the same thing. I never, never Buy the shipping label til at least the next day, next morning.
If I sell something TONIGHT, I'll just message the Buyer with a THANKS!!! And add I'll get it packed up in the morning and hopefully out tomorrow too. That kind of gives them notice that I AM AWARE of the Sale, and they have an idea of when it's going out. It gives me a peace of mind that they have hours to cancel so it doesn't effect me in the way it has hurt this Seller.
But to sit there at the starting line waiting for the starting bell to ring, then minute Item Sells, PACK AND PRINT LABEL NOW within 60 seconds. I don't get it.
Why?

·8 months agoYes I spoke about this when they new cancellation system came out.
When it changes to shipped it auto declines buyer requested cancels.
You can't undo it, and you can't cancel because only 1 cancel per order ( and the 1 was already automatically declined by eBay ).
So now it's stuck.
You have to issue manual refund if they paid and take the hit to your shipping metrics.

·8 months ago'I will be dinged by this'...maybe
It depends if the cancellation worked with the request of the buyer.
If it didn't...which sounds correct I think here...
It would be considered 'out of stock'...which is a ding.
Depends how artificial intelligence looks at this.
I got such a 'ding' for refunding without a request for a refund by the buyer.
