Holiday 2024 --- Marketing Campaign
Here we have what is known as a Holiday Marketing Campaign ad:
I have posted this here because, after 3 or 4 straight years without a Holiday Marketing Campaign, ebay might not remember what one looks like. I am also posting this link to a blog post describing the campaign for the benefit of a platform's Seller Community, just in case, after 3 or 4 years without a Holiday Marketing Campaign, ebay has forgotten what "seller engagement" and "transparency" look like:
My sincere best Holiday Wishes to the eBay Marketing Team, with hopes that they will find inspiration here.

·1 year agoI watch so little TV, particularly broadcast TV, that any advertising there would be wasted.
And the radio station I am perma-tuned to does not carry advertising.
I am online some 8 to 10 hours a day, and while I have adblockers, that would be where I would expect to see something.
I have seen eBay ads on Facebook, but not for a few months now. While they were not for products that interest me at least they remind the viewer that the site exists.
And may make the viewer think that the site has changed in its reach today.
I have seen ads on You Tube Shorts.
What online advertising have you seen? Site? Viewpoint?

·1 year ago@femmefan1946 a lot of the streaming options now have free or lower cost subscription tiers that include ads too (or should I say higher cost to avoid ads), so it's not just traditional broadcast TV.
Would be kind of funny honestly to see eBay ads running on Prime Video 😂 but while I don't expect that to happen, there are a lot of places eBay could choose to show up for the holidays, if they were so inclined.

·1 year agoIt seems that if it isn't a watch, purse, sports card, sneaker or auto part - eBay just doesn't care... Anymore

OP1 year ago@geo2061 Well, if this year is like all the others since the current CEO came on board, ebay will do some marketing for those "Focus Categories" but nothing for the site as a whole. But, each year, like a 4 year old who still believes in Santa, I hope ebay will gift us a Holiday Marketing Campaign. And each year, I am disappointed. But, hey, it's that Magical Time of the Year, and so I will continue to hope for some Holiday Magic.

i know you (personally on occasion) get Nay-Sayers pushing - 'well maybe eBay noticed that their add campaigns did little for the "bottom Line"'
How about a campaign that just makes Sellers Happy and feel that there contribution to the whole is appreciated ??? Just an opinion ..

·1 year agoI doubt there'll be one, except for their pet verticals etc.
They seem to have forgotten how to effectively advertise the site as a WHOLE as a Holiday shopping destination.

·1 year agoIt would be nice for sellers to be appreciated!, Although not likely. But it is that Magical time of year as was stated, I love Magic!

OP1 year ago@geo2061 Very good point. A good Holiday campaign could make at least some sellers view ebay in a more positive light. Unfortunately, even as ebay has finally begun to recognize the importance of smaller, c2c sellers, ebay has little sense of what might make some of those sellers feel better about selling here.

·1 year ago@my-cottage-books-and-antiques looks like Amazon just dropped their holiday commercial too.
And to @geo2061's point....that and the Etsy spots maybe hint at the possibility eBay is missing that there could be positive brand building value and maybe even some old fashioned goodwill to be gained in sparking warm and fuzzy magical holiday nostalgia "feels".

OP1 year ago@valueaddedresource Thanks. Hadn't seen the Amazon commercial yet.
One thing to remember: Whether these ads appeal to you or me or others here is not the point. These ads will likely be viewed positively by many people, and that will ultimately reflect on the brand.
I would really love to think that the ebay brand is viewed positively by many, many people, but given the cumulative impact of negative publicity over the last few years, including the Steiner imbroglio (still working its way through the court system), it would seem a positive Holiday message would not be amiss.
There is still time for ebay to surprise me, but the window of opportunity is closing....

·1 year agoWife and I saw a new eBay commercial the other night. Clothes, shoes, watches.
New enough we hadn't seen it. It was a nice ad.

OP1 year ago@dirk12955 Thanks for the info. Was it one of these? I'm glad to see ebay running ads of any kind, but these are not holiday ads and they are still tied to ebay's Focus Categories.
