hogging all selling space
This seller has 38,000 items for sale and they are all listed en masse in Collectibles>Native American US>1935 to Now>Jewelry>Newly Listed. Page after page after page. Other sellers using this category have virtually no chance to have their items seen. It's totally unfair. They now own this category!!!

·11 months agoWhat exactly are you wanting to accomplish? They have the right to list as many listings as they want in the category. Ebay will do nothing.

·11 months agoThat is a very, very impressive collection of turquoise/silver jewelry. Maybe he bought out a business on a reservation?
I sold a large collection of a particular type of vintage item about 2 years ago, for a while my listings dominated the category, only for a few months but the visibility really helped. The downside of selling huge collections is that I found, at least for me, is the top 25% sell fast and easy, the next 50% takes a little while, and the bottom 25% takes years to unload, probably due in part to decreased visibility. I don't know if that is typical of others experiences.

·11 months agoIt's pretty easy to dominate a category from a checking said category and scrolling through it.
From a Search Result standpoint? I don't think "owning it" can be done anymore.

·11 months agoNothing is stopping anyone from owning a category. In my selling career I have owned multiple categories for months at a time sometimes, perhaps not in number of listings but absolutley in the actual sales. When I bought a huge modern wargame collection a few years ago I singlehanded dominated several of those categories for about 4 months.
A few years back I was getting 90 percent of the craft gourd sales on the website for nearly a year.
That is how a free market works, if you have the most of an item and are also willing to have the best prices then you can own that category.
In practice it is very hard to become number 1 in any broad ebay category, but it is pretty easy to dominate a certain item or virtual category if you end up with a huge collection or quantity of something.

Copied and pasted the search terms you posted, did not see any seller that had anywhere close to that number of listings, also tried finding a seller by the name in the post title, searching with both as shown and with spaces removed, couldn't find one, but no matter because you are not allowed to name and shame seller/buyers on the community forums.
Between the words Collectibles and Native American, wonder if there is another category that is missing because I did not see "Native American" as a choice in the menu.

There are approximately 38,000 total results there, from a variety of sellers. Definitely not 38,000 from any one seller.
I was also able to find the seller they were probably referring to, who does sell in that category (I won't post the username or link here). They have about 3,700 total listings, some in that category but not all.
There's just a lot of misunderstanding going on in this post.

·11 months agoThey already do. When you "search" it includes some, excludes some. Has the appearance of trying to give everybody a little bit of a chance.
About the only way around that is to just choose a category and scroll.

·11 months agothis is how a (mostly) free market works. It is up to you to figure out how to compete. On some items it is just not possible to compete, in that case move on to something else
