High offer - buyer has 5 feedback and none recent
Received a high offer on a barbie (1K).
the buyer has been on ebay for 7 years
only 5 feedback rec'd, none left (they haven't bought barbies)
no transactions for over a year
making me really nervous
should I just not accept the offer and block or what?
plenty of watchers...

·8 months agoWhy do I not see any Barbies listed for you or recently sold?
Am I blind?
And what's (IK)?

Since this is just an offer and not an actual purchase, using your gut feeling after careful analysis is a good thing, especially if it's a very high offer over and above your asking price. An actual sale would be different. Turning down an offer (and blocking the potential buyer if you so choose) does not affect your seller performance metrics.
If you don't feel comfortable with the offer, it is your privilege to accept it or reject it. Don't let anybody tell you that you MUST accept an offer, as they don't have any skin in the game. It's your money and your item, not eBay's and not anyone else's.
If yours actually is a rare $1000 Barbie with plenty of watchers, IMHO there are a lot of collectors who would be interested in snatching it up without playing high-offer games with you.
This is not paranoia on your part. I think you did the right thing by trusting your gut and rejecting an offer that you believe has red flags. I'd have done the same thing and waited for an outright sale or an offer that didn't set off alarms.
Having boundaries in your business model gives you peace of mind, which is an important part of online commerce.
Cheers, Duffy

·8 months agoIf you feel uncomfortable, don't do it. That is the bottom line.
But I must ask, what's the minimum feedback a customer must have to buy a valuable item from you?

OP8 months agothe potential sale is not on this id.
I ALWAYS (except this one!) accept best offers as I have a minimum set.
but, this buyer really has no history. 5 feedbacks from at least a year ago and none left.
and none of the buys were barbie.
I have sold to 0 feedback buyers before but the $$ is making me extra careful.
just felt like a hijacked account.
of course, I could be wrong but every time I don't follow my instincts,
i wind up telling myself 'I told you so' after it goes south
I didn't accept and blocked

·8 months agoTalked yourself out of a Sale. A sale to an ebay Buyer that has been on ebay for 7 years.
Good Job. I think. 😂

·8 months agoFWIW, I'm naturally a risk-taker, but very time I've gone against my gut instinct I've regretted it.

·8 months agotake the money and run, if the payment goes thru and you ship it to the address on file with tracking then you are covered. If it is a $1000 doll then package it well and be sure to require a signature. (anything $750 or more requires a signature to be covered by ebay protection)
why look a gift horse in the mouth

·8 months agoYou have the right to be concerned. Sounds like they are offering more than the listing price. (?)
I did not see the listing. Did you take it down?

·8 months agoIs the price offered above the selling price? Big red flag.
ccomic
·8 months agoHow is that a red flag on a normal auction? I thought that is was offers were for. If there are no bids on an item with a min bid of $75 and a couple days to go, and I think the item will close at $150, I might offer $100. Maybe this buyer is trying to pull something. Who knows? But I don't see the red flag here.
I guess it comes down to why does a seller even enable "best offer" on a normal auction? If you only want offers below the current price, use "buy it now".

·8 months agoA lot of sellers have buying accounts and/or posting accounts - so you can't really measure their activity on eBay.
Your decision - if you do decide to sell the item to them, make sure you purchase signature confirmation and ship to the address supplied by eBay.
purchase1212
OP8 months agothis is their buying account but only the 5 feedback from over a year ago
usually barbie collectors have been buying barbie
not one isolated big purchase
I've sold a lot and this just doesn't feel right...

·8 months agoIf it doesn't feel right - I'm not going to convince you otherwise, nor should I - I suggest you go with your gut and decline the offer and if you care to, block the person.

·8 months agoMaybe they're a Collector who has most/all of the Barbies they want and this is a Rare One that they truly want and rarely pops up so they made an offer to ensure they will get it.
Still makes me laugh to see Sellers talk themselves out of selling an item they have for sale. Why list it if you're not going to sell it.
Sell the thing. Make your $1000.

I'm not experienced enough to give you a good answer. I just wanted to say that I have sold a $900 Lens to a person that had created there account the week before with zero feedback and it went fine.
Good Luck!!!
