Hi Community Team --- What's Going On With Markdown Manager?
@devon@ebay
One reason I like to use Markdown Manager to run discount sales is because of the price strike-through on the search results page and my store pages. The strike through makes it clear to experienced buyers that the discounted price is a limited time offer and this helps to create a sense of urgency.
So....I'm now running a 15% Off Markdown Manager Sale , everything in my store is 15% off though Monday.
Question: What is going on? Is ebay doing some sort of test of the tool? From what I'm seeing, ebay is applying the strike through randomly, with many discounted items not displaying the strikethrough. The discounted price is shown, but, without the strike through, it simply looks like a regular, non discounted price, and thus lacks the sense of urgency.
The View Item pages DO show the strike through correctly, the issue is only with search results pages.
Some of my sale items show the strike through, some don't. Is this a test? A glitch? Some strange new, unannounced policy?
This reduces the value of Markdown Manager for sellers, and it definitely NOT a magical experience. Can you please check with the appropriate team to figure out what is going on here?
(ETA: I'm using Chrome on a PC)

·2 years agoI was recently thinking of using that tool, I never have tried it, But now it sounds like just another Issue I don't need!
wastingtime101
·2 years agoMarkdown strikethrough was fixed today on my accounts.
But then if I look at @mcdougle4248 as an example, I can see strikethrough pricing for item 196000573325 on her store home page exclusively, but the strikethrough isn't appearing in regular search for that item. That seems to be the exception because almost all of your items on markdown are currently showing strikethroughs that weren't there yesterday.
Edit: In the time it took me to write that post, that item is now showing a strikethrough in regular search. Must be in-progress fixing I'm witnessing.

Thank you for checking my listings.
I can see the strike-through prices in search. My store seems a bit unstable. Checked it several times in the last 15 minutes and the strike-throughs are coming and going. I think you are correct the fix is "in progress".

·2 years agoSome of my items on sale are also not being shown with the strikethrough and the % off in the search results. But it is being shown if you click directly in the listing. This defeats the whole purpose of running a sale.
@devon@ebay - this should be posted in the summary of the bugs with a reference ID so that sellers can call support and add their name to the list.
c_miracles_vintage
·2 years agoMe too... for the markdown mess. None of my listings for 25% off are showing up with the strikeover. Just looks like it is the regular price.

·2 years agoSeeing the same here on listings for a markdown sale event that started on Oct. 3rd.
This probably is not a bug/glitch but rather a change.

·2 years agoSome of the "sale" prices are showing... but NONE of the promotions, and that is absolutely idiotic.
It started the same time they reduced the picture size (which it appears may have been fixed)
Over the years I run a buy 3 get 1 free sale, and it is a huge part of certain items I sell, and now the ONLY way someone even knows about it, they would have to:
1- Click on a listing they may be interested in,
2- Then they have to click on "see full description" (assuming buyers even know to do that- another terrible feature
3- They would then have to know that theres a button to click that shows all available items in the promotion.
It used to drive a huge percentage of my sales when I ran the promo- for the last 7 years... This time I have had it up for a month...
ZERO SALES... ZERO
PLEASE FIX THIS NOW

For me, I am seeing an issue with promotion start dates after September 19th.
In my screenshot, the horse promotion started on Sep 18th and has the strike-through price while the reindeer promotion started on Sep 26th and does not have the strike-through price. Every markdown promotion I started after September 19th does NOT show a strike-through price.

OP2 years ago@mcdougle4248 So it sounds like this has been an ongoing problem for quite a while?
@devon@ebay Can we PLEASE get an answer here? One of the main reasons to use MM---ebay itself has said this---is because of the sense of urgency that the strike through creates. We are IN the Holiday Shopping Season and we really need ebay to at least provide tools that work properly.

I am not sure when it started, but I first noticed it about a week or so ago, both in my store and in search. I reported it to customer service on Thursday or Friday of last week.
Another thing I found out the other day is that when I edit a markdown promotion to add more listings if the strike-through price was showing on the listings before editing, it will disappear from all the listings in that promotion after the edit is complete.

OP2 years ago@mcdougle4248 Thanks for the info. Did you hear anything back from the Tech people?
@devon@ebay As I said: Q4. We don't need Magic, we just need basic things to work. And we need to be kept informed. If this has been an ongoing and widespread problem, sellers should be notified so they know to either use another discount tool or to use MM but be aware that it will be of very limited usefulness because of this issue.
So, again, PLEASE. Can we get an answer to this?

No, I have not heard anything back from eBay. I will request another call back right now and see if there is any update.

OP2 years ago@mcdougle4248 THANKS! I appreciate it!

The rep I just spoke with can see my report from last week. He created another report, with screenshots of two of my listings (one with strike-through pricing and one without strike-through pricing showing) to send to the tech team. He did not find an ALERT ID yet for this issue.
The more sellers that report the issue the better our chances for a fix. So, anyone seeing this on their account should contact customer service and be prepared to share item numbers of the affected listings with the rep.
Just an FYI...
My Buy 1, Get 1 order discounts are still displaying in search for me, so if anyone has listings that will work for this type of promotion they may want to try that.
my-cottage-books-and-antiques
OP2 years ago@mcdougle4248 Well, my sale is already over, so I have no current examples to show Tech Support.
If I get some time, maybe I'll set up another MM sale just so I can report it to Tech.

·2 years agoReading the new seller fall update that came out a couple weeks ago, it seems like they said there will be new things that push coupons rather than selling markdowns. They are going to start promoting couponed items called SPOTLIGHT COUPONS. Then, when addressing markdowns it says, "We’re exploring ways to include other promotions, such as markdowns, under the Sale tab in the future. "
Perhaps this change caused the markdowns to no longer have price slashes or red discount amount shown to buyers on search or the app.
They could have inadvertently screwed this up, or maybe purposefully so people will use coupons instead.
----------------------
As someone who loves markdowns, I don't understand coupons at all. I've tried with no success.
What does it matter to eBay, if I have a coupon saying 15% off vs a markdown of 15% off, or whatever my coupon my be?
I like buyers to see the discounted price or deal, vs them thinking they have to use a coupon.
THOUGHTS?

@my-cottage-books-and-antiques As of this morning I do not have any updates to share on the markdown manager. I will be sure to let you know as soon as I hear back from the product team.

OP2 years ago@devon@ebay Thanks. Hopefully soon.

·2 years ago@devon@ebay : Thank you for your prompt reply. Disappointing as it is, it does help to highlight the difference between your responsiveness and those from whom you're trying to get answers.
Just curious: do you have phone numbers for any members of that team? It might startle them out of their lethargy to get a call from you, looking for updates. Phone calls are a bit harder to ignore than emails.

·2 years agoI have also been having the same issue with my Markdown manager where it is not Showing the Strike Through on my Listings. @valueaddedresource Has Linked the Post I made but I'll list it once more here as well.

·2 years agoI took a look at my Store Page and it seems that Dolls and Books are the only thing with the Strike Through active from the Markdown Manager. I am not sure if there is any correlation to why this might be happening but it may help.

I just wanted to add "me too" to the Markdown mess 😞
All of my items are included in the 10% Off Markdown that I am running
The prices reflect the markdown, but only some have the strikethrough pricing 😞

Hey @my-cottage-books-and-antiques! Let me get this over to the correct team to have this looked into this morning and I will share what I find out as soon as I hear back.
my-cottage-books-and-antiques
OP2 years ago@devon@ebay Well, my Markdown Manager sale has run its course, and I still haven't heard anything from the Team, but I'd still like to know why this didn't work properly? I might try running another one, but if it is still not working as expected, I don't know that I'll bother.

·2 years agoThat's been my feelings over the last few years with a lot of ebay touted seller tools to the point where I rarely use any of them anymore, even the ones I used to use like MD Manager etc.

OP2 years ago@devon@ebay
My Markdown Manager sale ends late tonight. The problem has remained the same. It would be great to get an answer ASAP.
toomuchstuffagain35
·2 years agoNot much point running a markdown sale if it doesn't show the 'mark down'.
Whenever I use the markdown manager there’s a note in there that says::It may take up to 12 hours from start time for the sale to beginâ€. If you recently started your sale it can take up to 12 hours for all your listings to reflect the sale.

my-cottage-books-and-antiques
OP2 years ago@ebooksdiva That's correct: for the sale event to begin" . But in this case, the event has begun: all prices have been properly discounted and the strike through and discounted price shows on the view item page. The price ebay is showing in search reflects the discounted price properly.
The problem is, the strike through is not showing for many of these items in search. I guess we'll see if it takes 12 hours for the strike through to appear for all items. But the sale itself is active. And has been active for 4 or 5 hours.
I suppose time will tell, but it would be nice to know whether this is some odd test or a glitch or just business as usual in the Magical Land of eBay.
my-cottage-books-and-antiques
OP2 years agoWell, it's definitely well over 12 hours now, and I've seen no change....most of my listings are still not showing the strike through in search results.
@devon@ebay Could you please check into this? My own sale ends Monday night, but if this is a widespread test or glitch, it needs to be corrected or announced.
a_c_green
·2 years agoAyup; that's confirmed (not that you needed confirmation, of course). I have never viewed your listings before, so cookies or cache would not be relevant here. A sprinkling of your listings are showing a strikethrough; the vast majority are not. The only clue that something might be going on is the odd pricing that results from the discount being applied behind the scenes: $10.62, $18.06, etc.
my-cottage-books-and-antiques
OP2 years ago@a_c_green In a YouTube Comments section today I saw another seller asking about this, so I'm not the only one impacted by this. Hopefully, it will be resolved soon.
brentandbecca
·2 years agoI have used markdowns all weekend, not 1 item has a strike through or says 15% off in red, like it used. Not on the browser sites or the app. Horrible.

A horrible experience, made worse by ebay's refusal to come here to acknowledge that the problem even exists.
