    Here We Go Again...

For those of you who send Seller Initiated Offers, you many have noticed an increase of "counteroffers", which may be a surprise for many who do not, or have not turned on the "Automated" offers toggle when doing so.

In typical eBay form, eBay decided to make that decision for us by turning "On" the automatic offers without notice, and has frustrated many, including myself. Additionally, the default date to end isn't until 2028!

Sellers who are interested in knowing how many offers are currently automated, eBay has added the "Offers" feature to the Marketing tab in Seller Hub. There you can click to see how many have been added. The good news is that eBay has provided a way to edit and turn "Off" the automation. However, there is no bulk edit feature to do so........ Surprise!

I am not opposed to getting counter offers.  I see just as many buyers accepting my offers as I see counters.  It just is a business function, so I had mine switched on to begin with.  Hope I was helpful

I was in the middle of sending offers when eBay flipped it to be a percentage with automatic offers and counter offers enabled. I caught the automatic/counter toggle and changed it back, but missed that they flipped it to percentage which made my $50 item $27 with the high percentage I put (I was trying to offer $45 offer amount instead). Fortunately they buyer didn't accept and I couldn't remember after I hit send and it went away which one it was, there were many similar ones I sent offers on and didn't want to go and look.

At some point a day or two later they flipped it on me again. I wish they'd stop trying to force me to send automatic offers. My offers come with custom messages about how I ship and with the current situation (and living in Canada) that information changes frequently. I don't want to be sending offers with outdated details on my shipping policies, plus i don't want automatic offers going out while I'm on time away mode (which I was told buyers can purchase if they receive an offer).

Yes, I would expect there to be additional problems for sellers as a result of this.

Just the fact that they decided to do this without informing sellers BEFOREHAND, sends a deafening message that eBay owns all sellers and will do whatever they want. So sad to see such a good company grow up to now treat their sellers this way.

I was able to "edit" 200 listings at a time and "end" hundreds of listings eBay had in my "offers".  It only took me a few minutes to complete.

Btw, in addition to turning these selections on, eBay also decided the actual offer %. I've taken screen shots of numerous listings where eBay has done this.

What's next?  Will eBay start controlling pricing as well?

I don't understand.  You mean you sent an offer of (say) 10% off, and eBay commandeered it to a different %?

That is correct. Here is one of many examples with my personal note of my actual offer. Also, notice that it shows "Calculated shipping". I've never used it.

Your note to the buyer says 15% off, but eBay is showing 15.02% off. Is that it?

The asking price for that listing is $20.90, so 15% off exactly would be $17.765. Obviously, you can't send an offer that ends in a half-penny so eBay rounded it off to $17.76, which is 15.02% off.

That would make sense. However, I'm still baffled by the rest of it.

Sorry, I can't help with that. Just the example you gave, since it was amenable to math analysis.

If you are getting counteroffers, there is also a toggle for that, which is separate from the automatic offers.  It was turned on for me until I noticed it by scrolling down on my send offer screen.

Yes, that's where a seller would normally go to control those functions. However, eBay decided to take over that responsibility for many sellers during the roll-out of their new Offers feature in the Marketing tab. ðŸ˜¶
