I sold a bulky item and shipped it out to buyer last week. Today I get this message...
This was sent to the wrong address. I dont even know how my old address is even on my ebay.
What would you tell the buyer? Obviously thats their problem but I want to be kind... but not taken advantage of either!

Your buyer neglected to verify the shipping address on his screen at checkout.
"I'm so sorry, but once I ship to the address eBay gives me, it's out of my hands."
And now you have good written evidence to fight a chargeback, in case he tries that.

·4 months agoWhen a buyer pays, he sees the address the seller is committed to using when shipping his purchase and has the chance to change it then.
It's the buyer's responsibility to have a change of address order on file with the USPS if/when he moves.

·4 months ago@lynnsfabfinds You can be kind, but I urge you to not be a pushover. For all you know your buyer is lying in an attempt to get some type of refund. You did your part and you are protected by eBay. Even if the item should come back to you, you have no duty from eBay to refund the buyer.
I'm going to probably give a cheeky response. Something like this...
Your package arrived at your old front door,
The one you don’t live at anymore.
The mailman delivered with pride and grace,
Completely unaware you moved to another place.
I printed the label exactly as shown,
Not carved into stone by a shipping gnome.
So before your next late-night shopping spree,
Give eBay your address from this century.

What is the tracking showing?
Is it simply "delivered" or are there any other comments indicating a Return To Sender?
All you can tell the buyer is that you used the address eBay provided and when (if) it is returned you will contact them.

Here is what I say about changing shipping addresses:
"Changing an address for a current order:
Buyers can change the shipping address at checkout right up until payment is sent. After that, the shipping address for that transaction cannot be changed.
The seller is required to ship to the address that comes with the payment or lose all protection in the event of an "item not received" case. Scammers often send messages urging the seller to ship to another address, so sellers are rightly wary of such requests.
If the item has not shipped yet, the seller can cancel the transaction and relist to allow the buyer to purchase again and provide the correct address, but sellers are not required to do any of that.
Changing an address stored in the eBay account for future orders:
Go here to update all the various addresses associated with your account:
https://accountsettings.ebay.com/uas/addresses
Make sure your preferred shipping address is set as your Primary Shipping Address and any old addresses are deleted."

·4 months agoIf the buyer files a non-receipt claim, respond with the tracking number showing delivery. Ebay will see that you shipped to the address in the order and you should win the claim. (Ebay may put a hold on the funds while the case is open but it'll be released once they see that you shipped and it was delivered.)
This is on the buyer and you don't need to reimburse them.

·4 months agoTell the buyer that you print out the label and ship the item to the address on file. That was the address on file and they are responsible for that address being on file. They should've updated the address prior to purchase. They should do so before making other purchase. Once delivered there is nothing they can do. They could maybe request a forward through the USPS. It's out of your hands.

It's not your problem. It's not your responsibility.
The buyer has to try and figure out a way to try and get it from his old address.
