Has Automatic Feedback Changed The Way Some People Interact?
First off I want to say I am not complaining, I don't expect anything extra from anybody and it won't negatively affect the way I have always interacted in the past.
Before the automatic feedback update I was against it, because it would mostly benefit the worst sellers, but I have grown to like it.
In the past I would usually get around 35% positive feedback from buyers, since automatic feedback that has dropped significantly. Nothing on my end has changed, so i'm wondering if perhaps buyers who would normally feel obligated to give feedback are now relying on eBay to do it for them?
What are your views, experiences?

·10 months agoThe only thing which has changed is my feedback total. There has not been any negative impact on automated feedback. A buyer who didn't leave feedback before wasn't going to leave it now. A buyer who left feedback before would most likely leave it again. If a buyer has an issue they need to contact me if they have an issue to resolve that issue. If they leave negative/neutral feedback I appeal and win.

·10 months agoI made a post about this a month back or so. I changed from manual to automated feedback BUT, I set up the auto feedback for when the customer left feedback, only then do they get theirs. In my case, my feedback ratings have jumped significantly. But also, I added a message into my packing slip template that states this action. In some cases, the buyer sees the message, performs the feedback in order to get theirs. I am up 2x on feedbacks.

·10 months agoThat has nothing to do with the change Ebay made in September. ALL sellers are getting the Auto feedback as described in the policy. When you leave feedback for a buyer has nothing to do with the auto generated feedback.
I would suggest you remove that statement from your packing slips. While most buyers won't mind it, others may take exception to your process. They are out there and you just never know what might set a person off. The comment isn't necessary at all.
I've had my auto feedback for buyers set to the same requirements you have. I've done this for years. I do not give the buyers a heads up about my process as I see no reason to try and create a conflict or stir anyone up that may object. It simply is not necessary.
As you can see in the pic above, you have 62 auto feedback by Ebay. They all say the same thing. The first feedback in the pic shows which item, the auto feedback and then to the right of that it tells you that Ebay posted this feedback.

·10 months agoMost buyers (only those that also sell more than likely) have no idea of the 'new' automated fb.

·10 months agoFeedback is largely irrelevant to my business.
I have few disputes, few returns and regular repeat buyers who make up about 10% of my business.
People who buy what I offer want it, recognize that I care about these items and even those who have left FB in the past, run out of nice things to say. They also have few if any other choices for the same item.
Since FB does not affect how Ebay rates me, and does not give me a competitive advantage or disadvantage this change really does not matter to me.
I will admit that I am checking my FB more often because it is going up at a faster rate, and I am curious about which of my buyers actually left real FB. I am sure I will return to ignoring it soon enough.

·10 months agoAs a buyer it has changed my thoughts on feedback. In the past when not pleased with a transaction but not dissapointed enought to leave negative feedback I just didn't leave any. I think alot of buyers probably are the same when it comes to feedback that way.
I used to be able to look at a feedback score and decide whether to look closer or not. I know I can still look at feedback and know which ones are auto but unless the item is something I can't find elsewhere I don't bother.
I pretty much quit buying common items on eBay now due to inflated feedback scores compared to previous scores.
I guess I could adapt but what score to consider good? 99.9% ? 99.8%....Na I'll just trust them far less than before................................

Why do you see them as "inflated"? There has to be a transaction before any feedback by anyone can be left. Are you of the opinion sellers should not get acknowledgement of all transactions or just a few of them that will control the stats?
In the older method, a small percentage of buyers CONTROLLED a seller's feedback percentages. How is that fair to a seller? IMHO it should have always been calculated against total transactions not 1/3rd of the transaction a seller has.

By inflated I mean the feedback scores are inflated compared to before.
I think sellers should get acknowledgement of all transactions but by actual people not a computer. I realize this is impossible but to leave auto feedback that raises a score not actually left by a person make me distrust feedback in general.
As I opined before, what do I adjust to, 99.9% or 99.8% as an acceptable feedback score?
On items I really want and can't find elsewhere I'll bother to read the actual human feedback. On common items I will just not bother and buy from the manufacturers website or one with a proven track record I've bought from in the past with less chance of having to file a MBG claim.................

·10 months agoThat is the point. The feedback was unfair to sellers because Ebay allowed about 1/3rd of the buyers to control the ratings on sellers. That was completely unfair to sellers. Now Ebay is righting the ship. Now they are more accurate and are NOT "inflated" in any way. They are completely based on completed transactions.
And if a buyer chooses to leave feedback, Ebay removes the auto feedback right away.
Leaving feedback is a choice NOT a requirement. If FB was to become a requirement for buyers, we would likely lose a good amount of buyers and NO marketplace requires a buyer to leave feedback.

No, I think @mam98031 was correct, you are considering them inflated because they are getting feedback where they never did before because buyers be lazy sometimes. I have seen buyers with hundreds of feedback from sellers but have never left a single feedback themselves.
You think that the seller shouldn't be getting automatic feedbacks because it isn't the buyer. When in fact that since there was no issue with the transaction, rather than being acknowledged for having a sale and nothing went wrong, you think they should get nothing?
So if 2/3ds of the items I sell go without a hitch, and I treat them the same as every other buyer, I should still be held to only those that actually provide feedback, thus affecting my final score unfairly?
No. This new system has been a complete positive in my opinion. The automatic feedback is basically just showing that your sales are present. The buyer can leave their own opinion, just the same. If the transaction had an issue, no feedback will be left.

·10 months ago"When in fact that since there was no issue with the transaction"?
According to a computer because the actual buyer didn't leave feedback.
I have just adjusted to the new feedback scores by not trusting them anymore unless I want to read the actual human ones vs the computer generated ones.
I don't usually want to bother with something not hard to find online.
If sellers like it that's OK with me, I just don't and have adjusted my buying habits accordingly...................

·10 months agoPersonally, I like the auto feedback. I think it more fair to all sellers, good and bad. Ebay calculated FB percentages on just a portion of total sales which skewed the final number. As a small seller, one negative has a huge impact on my overall FB percentage. If I make a sale with no issues to the buyer, why should I not receive credit for it?
I am also selling on another site and auto feedback (5 star) is given after 3 days if the buyer does not leave any. Works just fine.

·10 months agoI'm sure most buyers don't even know about the change, or think much about it if they did. They're just buying stuff. Feedback has been a bygone triviality for years, let's not over-think it so much...

·10 months agoI actually tallied up our automatic vs manual feedback since it started, and found that just about a third of buyers are leaving manual feedback, while the rest of our feedback is automated. That’s about the same as what you said you were seeing, so we’re getting that percentage of manual feedback but then also getting automated feedback for almost every other order that we get, which we normally would not have gotten feedback on. It doesn’t seem to have affected the rate at which people choose to leave feedback for us.

·10 months agoBuyers may not be aware of the automatic feedback.
Most buyers from my experience don’t bother to leave feedback.
If a buyer decides to leave feedback, their feedback will replace automatic feedback given to the seller.
My view on feedback is….. if I get it fine, if I don’t get it that’s fine too, I really don’t concern myself with feedback.

·10 months agoI agree to some extent, If I get positive feedback, I'm fine , If I get a neutral or negative, I would find it concerning.

·10 months agoNegatives and neutral feedback can be removed.
mam98031
·10 months agoOnly if they breach policy. Starting this month if the entire feedback brakes the Feedback policy, then the feedback can be removed. But if only a portion of what the buyer said is against policy, then Ebay notifies the buyer to correct their feedback to stay within policy. So if the buyer does what Ebay asks, the feedback remains. If the buyer ignores Ebay's request, then Ebay will remove the entire feedback.
mam98031
·10 months agoYou can only get positive automated feedback. I like this change.
This change is meant to be helpful to sellers since in October how to get negative and neutral feedback removed changed.
