GUMMERS WITH EXORBITANT SHIPPING RATES 1 ME 0 IT PAYS (Possibly) if shipped to CA Anyway
I do not think for a min that these sellers, with 20 transaction, knows about some states not requiring EBAY to tax the shipping charge and thus reduce their FVF. I think, they is thinking that they dodge shipping charge completely on FVF.
But......... that said, CA did not tax shipping on items I sold there but Florida did. So not sure the list that people kept showing is accurate. The entire practice of taxing the shipping seems a bit dishonest/crooked and underhanded so WHY is it correct for CA???????????? Is it cause EBAY headquarter in CA???
So yea the $10 with 90 shipping vs $100 with free shipping results in seller saving a bit $100 at say 9%
buyer pay $100.90 instead of $109 Seller saves $1.22 😞
And BTW some countries like Australia charges a huge 10% tax for? China 0.

·8 months agoIt seems to me that the one complaining is the buyer/reseller that sees a low price and expects the seller to roll over and sell them for $10 with less than $10 shipping.
I don't think it is about taxes or whatever gummers are. The OP has said
" Item I was looking at, the seller was selling 2 tennis rackets, which would be 20 oz and cost around $10 to ship Fedex to most places in USA. "
The issue seems to have wandered, but it seems to me that the OP is upset that the $10 tennis rackets do not have $10 shipping.
I can say that the majority of issues that I have had in over 25 years of selling have come from resellers.
Your mileage may vary.

·8 months agoBut if you sold a $10 item with $90 shipping, that wouldn't be crooked or underhanded, right?

·8 months agoAre "Gummers" 90 year olds on Tinder?
soh.maryl
·8 months agoNo, but at least one of them could be a 92 year old on eBay (who shall remain nameless).

·8 months agoI had to look up a gummer😆
An old sheep or cow that has lost its teeth.

·8 months agoWow -- very first time that I've been described so accurately.
However, had no idea that animals, especially toothless ones, ever shopped on eBay.
What do they buy, I wonder?
Or do they only list and sell?

·8 months agoThe high price on shipping seems like an easy way for buyers to leave some negative feedback. Not worth the whole $1.22. Sellers should charge actual shipping cost. If the seller needs the extra $1.22 they can tack it on to the shipping fee with a handling fee. Not sure if any government folks are responsible for this stuff.

OP8 months agoSo you have got NEG FB or seen it given because shipping was too high? someone force buyer to buy?
soh.maryl
·8 months ago1. The buyer always sees what the shipping will cost before buying.
2. Some sellers add the cost of packing materials into their shipping cost to the buyer.

·8 months agoTariffs are set by the government of the country where they are charged.
State sales taxes are established by the governments of the various states and are charged to eBay buyers based on their delivery location. There are, I believe, five US states that do NOT have a state sales tax on purchases.

·8 months agoThat is a seriously stupid idea, I wouldn't even look at a listing I saw in search that offered a $10 item with $90 shipping.
FYI - The VAT rate in Australia is 10% and that is at the low end of the spectrum, in the EU it's 20 - 27%, in other countries it varies from from 5 - 40% and in China the standard rate 13% not zero.
