Gullty until proven innocent and then your still guilty
Today I received and account restriction that was clearly a mistake. I showed both the ebay representative both the restriction message that I received and then the ebay policy that did not cover the item I was selling..... it was plainly black and white and the restriction still stands.
This is super frustrating because appealing to ebay third party support is like talking to a brick wall yet you have to go through them to get an issue resolved.
Any ideas here?

OP3 years agoHere is the final update on this ordeal..........
Ebay has finally set the lowest bar for customer service that I have ever experienced...... agents on chat and phone are now free to belittle, berate and threaten to ban you for trying to work your way through a topic that I was right about in the end.
It all wound up with customer service agent #7 and about 5 hours of total time. The online chat took about 90 minutes to complete...... in the end I was able to point to the correct policy for paintball that was actually not in the airguns policy.......the account was finally restored with an apology.
It's utterly amazing the contempt that Ebay has for its sellers.....this is a straight down from the top culture that has gone to an entirely new level (low).
Shame on you ebay......maybe management should start reading these forums, facebook posts (which they like to delete), tweets, and online reviews so they can stop wondering why their business is bleeding out

OP3 years agoWell....6 calls / chat in with ebay about 4 hours on the phone....no luck....... when ebay customer service pressed ont he terms written in black and white.....they simply create some type of lie and make up a new policy that is not written down.
So 6 calls and 6 different answers........which is not helpful.......I have only been able to get one person on the phone from Ebay US....she realized ebay made a mistake told me she did not have the authority to remove the suspension but that management would and I would be clear in 48 hours......crickets.
After 23 years of selling I fully expect to be banned form the ebay website because there is nobody you can get on chat or on the phone to logically talk to.

OP3 years agoWell headed into day 3 with the restriction....... the search ban really kicking in now.....everything down over 15%......
Sent a little over and hour today on the phone wiht US customer support.....everything was documented.....the CSR agreed with me but had to be sent up to management for approval.
Logically this will cost ebay about $300 in selling fees for not just turning the account back on.......this is beyond silly.

·3 years agoFB takes a couple days; probably more with the holiday. 12 hours is not enough time.
Anyway, it was a BOT takedown- there are not ANY humans doing 'takedowns'. Might've been a 'person' responding and a 'person' created the email message...but it was 'spotted' by a bot.
Why not just list a Paintball Gun without using the Size in the title?
paraquip
OP3 years agoYup a bot answered my FB message and nothing since last night...about 12 hours now

·3 years agoI'm also not seeing the orange tip on your current item.
paraquip
OP3 years agoThat's correct because it's not an airsoft gun....it's a paintball gun
Airsoft have orange tips........bb guns and paintball do not

·3 years agoI'm just not sure what you're asking the Community. You have a reasonable response for every idea presented, and you've even stated:
"This is not a bot takedown......this is a manual team member takedown...... I go through this about 3 times a year...... each involving about 9 calls to ebay and 6 hours of my time."
I's apparent from the replies that you are much more knowledgeable about listing paintball guns than other members. What is it you're asking of the discussion-board participants?

OP3 years agoSO what's happening with Ebay customer service here is that that are simply getting worse in responding to a sellers needs....... bot are now answering ebay facebook pages......
Was wondering if anyone had a new approach to getting in contact with ebay customer service.

·3 years agoReally? What makes you say that? The Facebook/Twitter customer service representatives get pretty high reviews and recommendations in the Community. Has that changed? Has your experience been different?

·3 years agoThe first messages may be autogenerated. It’s all in an effort to funnel your issue to the best agent.
In a couple days, a real person will get back to you.
Social media is really your best option.

OP3 years agoThey did finally really and told me they could do nothing for me and to call support.
Ebay becoming a shining example of really really bad customer service.

OP3 years agoHDS Shotgun...tons of them up.....but the agent that pulled it simply making up policy that doesn't exist
You can see the bad english in the message here:
we don't allow BB guns or Airguns or Paintball guns with a barrel of more than .25 caliber. Hence, we request you to do not relist it on the site.
Here is the policy:
What is the policy?
Try to explain that to a CSR....goes in one ear and out the other...... there are no paintball guns under .43 caliber wit the majority being .50 and .68
The killer is that I cant list anything with 30K in inventory hitting the warehouse

·3 years agoI'm not familiar with paint guns but are there different rules for airsoft guns and paintball guns on eBay? I could only find rules for air guns.
stainlessenginecovers
·3 years agojust fyi:
A 'paint ball' gun IS an air gun. They use 'air' to shoot paint or bb's or pellets' etc etc.
The only 'other way' a gun shoots is using gunpowder (for bullets)
paraquip
OP3 years agoI was restricted for selling a .68 caliber paintball gun saying the bb gun guns over .25 caliber are not allowed.
The policy is not about paintball guns in which there are thousands on the site

I see that you still have a .50 caliber Rubber & Powder Ball listed... wouldn't that be kind of the same? Stoopid bots...
Were you shipping to the US only? On the listing that got pulled, that is?
I agree that the policy doesn't read like it applies to Rubber, Powder or Paintball guns, FWIW.

·3 years agoThanks for the details!
I know nothing at all about the paintball, bb guns, airsoft etc. Always good to have a reason to look it up and educate myself.
I see your point, paintball guns are NOT covered by policy, not even mentioned in the Help pages at all.
To get a chance of having the restriction removed or at least have the policy violation removed the facebook contact is the way to go as regular customer service generally don't have the power to overrule this type of policy violation.
One thing you should do is try to figure out if there was any content in the description that might have triggered a 'bot takedown, if could be something as little as one or two words or the combination of otherwise totally innocent words. You want to avoid repeats as the restrictions could get more severe.
I think I can see the listing in your solds but when I go to the listing page itself it's "not found". I was checking to see if the Category was correct, any chance it was in the Air Pistol category instead of Paintball?
paraquip
OP3 years agoWhen ebay takes down a listing it also erases all sales history of that item.
This is not a bot takedown......this is a manual team member takedown...... I go through this about 3 times a year...... each involving about 9 calls to ebay and 6 hours of my time.

·3 years agoCheck your emails in MY EBAY and see if they tell you why. I see that you have items listed. If it's a restriction, there might be a time limit. You probably won't be able to list or even edit an add. Contact Facebook like the others stated. When you message them via Facebook, it will be completely private. None of your friends or family will know that you have contacted Ebay.

Is the listing still viewable, if you don't mind me asking? And maybe what's the policy you're referencing?
Maybe someone could explain the method to the madness, at the least. Hmmm... 🤔

·3 years agoIn what way was it "clearly a mistake"?
I'm not saying that eBay can't make mistakes but you won't get any assistance here or from eBay if all you have is "it's a mistake".
pjcdn2005
·3 years agoSomeone here might have a better idea of what to do if they had more information about what the item was, why ebay said you were restricted and in what way you were restricted.
If you don't want to share that you could contact ebay customer service in the US by sending a private message to ebay Facebook or Twitter.
