Greetings All! second posting regarding a ship upcharge from $70 to $300 update
We ship a considerable amount of art paintings. Some are larger than others and ship fees track that. We expect that and have been selling on the site for about 20 years. Not a lot and m ostly inherited art, we have lots. So we ship a large painting FedEx, our preferred shipper, at a cost of $70 weighing about 37 pounds. The sale price was $199 minus ebay fee and plus $60 ship charge. AFTER the package delivery we were notified of a ship charge of $300 by fed ex because the package weighed about 90 pounds. The package weighed less that 37 pounds but we always add a little to make sure, as scales are different. How they got a 90 pound weight is a real mystery.
We appealed to ebay and were informed that it would be resolved with no issue and were sent a text of our conversation. Very professional. A week later we noted fed ex took $300 from our account/payment method.
We will ship to the higher risk UPS as their folks like to evidently run over packages, why we left years ago.
So what should we do now about resolution of the issue. Contact the Bay folks or go to Fed Ex.

·3 years ago@oneinfocus We use Fedex as our business primary carrier, and we have the same issues. They will claim that one 20x20x20 box is actually 21x21x19. They then calculate using the Dimensional weight, nit the actual weight. We have won some disputes when we call by pointing out our shipping history (a majority of 20x20x20 for many years) and that the auto scanners were scanning a box that had been smooshed out of shaped. I started checking the ebay price against the estimate generated by our Fedex shipping software both before listing and after an item sells.
Fedex also started using the USPS designation for a residence. They used to use a Google search as proof. We had one shipment that clearly shows on Google as a restaurant. It was a busy New York Street and the name of the restaurant was clearly visible and they refused to refund. It wasn't a combo residential/business combo building. The rep stubbornly refused saying We now use USPS as our address confirmation.
Residential and DAS res can be $11.00 for each package (say 5 boxes all going to the same address) and they will charge those fees on every box. We have successfully had those refunded. Anything over 50 pounds will incur a minimum $24 AHS fee. An Address correction fee is $21.00
You can see if ebay will help you if you go to the ebay for business facebook page and send a private message asking for assistance. Did you pay using a credit card? You could open a chargeback and see if the copies of your chats will be proof enough. Good Luck!

If the/a system is set up properly and you input the correct weight and measurements that system should bill you on either actual weight or dimensional. Whichever is greater...AUTOMATICALLY. If it is not doing that something is wrong. It is always best to round up slightly for 1/2" is the next number up. Same for oz's. Shipments will get audited for typos. The old adage kicks in here....Measure twice...cut once(or input once...correctly. If a shipment has been audited in theory you should get the updated charge showing the reason why it was audited/corrected. Again, if this is not happening proper processes are NOT in place.
This is how it always worked during my many years in warehousing and product fulfillment. This is how it should work with any shipments processed through any carrier eBay is tied to. Again, if everything was set up correctly.

As a side, this is why I never use Flat Rate shipping and never suggest it for anything bulky or when additional fees can be in play. Too many specifics that cause cause an estimate/guesstimate to go off the rails. (There can be surcharges in play if something is oversized or too long. Never hurts to review a carriers policy on the subject.)
As a side 2, if you are insuring for any extra amount that is not included free, this must be built into your shipping. There is no way to add/charge after a customer has paid. It would need to be included as part of your handling charge. Very important with higher value shipments. Fedex/UPS/USPS as examples only include the first 100.oo free.

·3 years agoYes oversize items such as paintings cost a fortune to ship. The weight does not have much of an effect; it is the size that matters. At least you now know that.

Dont use eBay labels for FedEx or UPS. When you print the label through eBay, eBay is the shipper, not you.
