Got charged by eBay after being deployed without selling item
Need help. Long story short I listed an item on eBay, also mentioned I was about to be deployed. Unfortunately the deployment came earlier than expected and was unable to sell. Messaged the buyer as soon as I could have. Today eBay charged my bank account $200+.. how can I appeal this.

·9 months agoLooks like this item sold on Sat, Dec 13 at 6:21 AM. Don't know when you were about to be deployed and actually deployed but my SWAG says it looks likes you had more than sufficient time to have a $1650 purchase shipped and delivered..

·9 months agoYou could see if eBay will cut you any slack by using the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act to plead your situation. Are you able to get Free Legal Advice from your deployed location?

·9 months agoWhen you sell on eBay, you are agreeing to complete the sale. The penalty for not doing so is losing the final value fees.
Your listing clearly shows that you knew you had an imminent deployment and decided to risk trying to sell it anyway.

You can try to plead your case on eBay's Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/ebay Click on the blue Message button to send a private message. Do not send any private or account information in your initial message. Just give a brief description of your issue. eBay will send a link for you to use to verify your account. Once you have verified your account, you will be able to share the details of your deployment in relation to this auction. If you have unclassified orders for this deployment, it may be beneficial to prepare a copy to upload during the messaging.
As a former service member, I understand how things can move very fast between a deployment alert and the actual deployment. Thank you for your service, and best of luck.

·9 months ago@inhawaii I looked at the original listing. They mentioned in the description they were selling the item (a very expensive Sony camera) because they were about to be deployed.
@co-5059 Thank you for your service. I do not know how much of a heads-up you got that you were shipping out. You were running an auction. It seems it would have only taken a few seconds to end it. I don't know what you do when being deployed, but I assume you have access to your phone while en route to your destination. Could you not have ended the auction before someone won it? Or, was it won and you did not have time to ship it?
Either way, there is no appeal here. eBay does not care what the reasons are. You noting in the description that you are about to be deployed does not matter. You cannot honestly expect the buyer, who paid over $1,600 for this camera, to just wait it out until you come back. How are they to know you were suddenly deployed? I could put the same thing in my listings and nobody will know whether I'm telling the truth or not. Even if I were, that does not excuse me from not shipping the item. At a minimum you should have ended the auction before it was won. If someone had one, you could have cancelled the sale and let the buyer know why. I'm sorry this happened, but there isn't anything you can do but eat the costs since eBay had to step in.

·9 months agoFirst of all ... thank you for your service.
What do you mean "also mentioned I was about to be deployed"?
Mentioned to who?
If you were deployed and the item was still listed and sold and you were unable to ship ... your fault.

·9 months agoBy trying to decipher what you said, it sounds like you actually SOLD the camera and the buyer paid but you were unable to ship. Buyer had to open an "item not received" case while you were away and ebay had to step in and refund the buyer. Therefore, ebay charged you their fee since you didn't resolve it and they had to step in.

You did sell the camera.
Did the buyer pay?
Did you refund or did Ebay have to refund?

·9 months agoI'm confused...you were unable to sell, yet messaged the buyer? Do you mean you were unable to ship? What was the over all value of the item?
