Good packaging tape deal
Maybe you can find it cheaper online, but then again often the tape I get is thin and not very sticky. Walmart has the tape shown below in a 4 pack for $6.17 and it is very good thick sticky tape. I'm sold on it (it goes a long ways).

·1 year agoI get "duck" packaging tape at walmart probably for 15+ yrs for $12.88, 1.88x110 total 440 yds, 4 rolls, And its hard to find sometimes, always running out. I tried online stuff, shipping is high and they always split and peel on me.
Only problem I had was they moved it from the stationary section over to hardware, thought they stop selling it.

·1 year agoAlthough I prefer Scotch, BJs was out of it so I went to Amazon and bought
P Perfectape Heavy Duty Packing Tape 6 Rolls, Total 360Y, Clear, 2.7 mil, 1.88 inch x 60 Yards,
Reviewers said, Not as Good as Scotch but Good Enough.
They were right. $2/roll suits me just fine.
I like it better than other cheap tape, it goes on smoothly and does not pucker in the cold.

·1 year agoI get the packs of 8 rolls of Scotch heavy duty stuff from Costco.
The thin tape is more trouble than it's worth - it's hard to handle, sticks to itself and I find I have to use double on boxes because it rips so easily.

This tape is definitely not thin. It is good quality sticky thick tape, that if it get stuck to itself is easy to restart. How much is the Scotch tape from Costco by the way?

2.8 cents per yard. When I see tape under 2 cents a yard, I buy.

·1 year agoThat's not a bad price for quality tape. Will keep that in mind if I get in a pinch.
I buy cheaper tape of a lesser quality. I get the 110 yd, X 2" ($1.67 ea) and use that.
It isn't as thick or as sticky but as I like to go all the way around the box anyway it works just fine as it sticks well to itself. Packages have traveled to zone 8 and back with the tape and label still in place.

·1 year agoYou're talking about a two inch wide tape, really the 1-7/8 of an inch [1.88 in is not a measurement in this country - sorry, one of those things that rub me wrong]
Our walmart runs out of the pen+gear two inch [for boxes] in five minutes, but the 3/4" [for labels] they have tons. We have been using the Duck ezstarter for boxes but just noticed that the stuff packed on Fri for Monday shipping, the tape has started popped up whenever it's 'under pressure' and touching cardboard.
We've had Fri till Monday before, this is something new. Will stick just great to itself or old tape but not cardboard. We have started to tape to tape only and sometimes we even staple two flaps together with one of those hand-grip plier type staplers used to attach receipts to meds bag

·1 year agoI am actually pleasantly surprised by the packing tape they now have. I cringed when I saw all that was available now at Walmart was their Pen Gear brand (their 6x9 and 9x12 envelopes are so thin they are worthless), but I bought it anyway and I think it's better than the plain Duck brand they used to carry. I had been using the heavier Duck brand tape because it had been on sale (clearing it out) but it smells really bad. So glad to see this new, cheap option. And it was only $5.87 where I bought it!
I don't have many large boxes. Maybe you'd need something better if you have large, heavy packages. But for small boxes and envelopes it works great.

·1 year agoI routinely buy my 4-packs of 3M Packaging Tape at Walmart, but was a little surprised by a couple of recent changes. First, 3M changed their packaging from four rolls arranged in a flat square (same packaging as the competition) to four rolls in a shrink-wrapped stack, which I have to say is a lot more efficient, once I realized that the new package I was seeing now was the same as the old one I'd been looking for. (Incidentally, it's not really 2" tape anymore, but 1.88" now. Shrinkflation and all that.)
Second, Walmart moved their 3M tapes over to the hardware aisle. I think the Duck tapes stayed where they were, but Walmart is definitely now emphasizing their Pen+Gear brand instead. I couldn't figure out why I could still order the 3M 4-pack on-line via our store when it was no longer on the shelf, but finally noticed that it was still in-house, just in a completely different part of the store.

And I think you have to watch Walmart's prices, too. When we go to Walmart, I always check the "clearance aisle" to see if anything worth taking home. A couple of months ago, there was some 3M packing tape that had been marked down. The marked down price seemed a bit high but I grabbed the rolls and then I thought I would check the regular stock to see if they still carried them or perhaps had changed to a different brand. They still had the very same tape, same UPC code, on the regular shelf at a lower price than those that had been "marked down". I found a clerk and asked what was going on with that and she told me (without even checking anything) that all the rolls on the regular shelf were priced incorrectly (too low) and she pulled all of them so that I couldn't buy any of them. I put the "sale" rolls back and haven't bought any tape there since.
Our Walmart has also expanded their shipping supplies but IMO some of the stuff they are selling is not very good quality. I bought some padded envelopes that were terrible, very thin. But it's Walmart; I guess you get what you pay for.

·1 year agoI bought some of this Walmart branded tape last week but haven't used it yet. They used to have a huge selection of name brand packing tape but their shipping supplies department has undergone a metamorphosis with only 2 choices these days. Walmart isn't what it used to be.

No idea. I have been using pretty much just one brand and version for the past decade and a half. 3M Scotch Heavy Duty Packing and Shipping tape. Bit higher in price, but I usually buy it in 3 or 6 packs from either Walmart or Amazon. I also have some eBay tape, and some other variants.
But that 3M will stick to just about any box and works very good. Its not their strongest tape, but its I think a couple grades above some of their other offerings. I have tried the thinner and cheaper tapes from them and other brands, but they just don't work well for boxes. But I haven't bothered testing others in many years since this always works.

However if that brand is as good as the ones I use now, that would be a nice price point. But that I don't know.
