give it up when too much competition?
I've been trying to sell audiobooks in a series with no luck. there are plenty of sold listings for decent money. But there are also hundreds of current listings and I can't find my listing in search to save my life. It only shows up at the bottom of the screen under "You May Also Like" and I don't know who sees that. If my listings won't be seen it's a big waste of time dealing with them. Plus I have so many they are taking up too much space.

·2 years agoMy 1997 Subaru has a cassette player. It was broken into a couple of years ago (a 5 year old can break into that car) and somebody rummaged around in the old cassettes still clunking around in there, haven't been played in years. I was like **bleep**? Of course, they also stole the 20 cents from a compartment in the shift console, my mileage log (why?) and an old (OLD) GPS unit but left the mounting hardware and wiring. 🤔
Breaking into a car that old to begin with was kind of Stupid Crook level.

OP2 years agoI don't lock up except at the gym due to my purse in the car; I don't want someone to damage the car only to find out there is nothing worth stealing. Though one day someone stole a transponder attached to the windshield for tolls and I had to report it stolen. Only to find out that nope, that wasn't stolen either, it had just fallen down and I didn't see it on the floor!

·2 years agoHad a convertible when I lived in DC. A cop told me to leave it unlocked so the top wouldn't get cut open. And, oh, leave a partial roll of quarters in the console so the bad guy would find something and go away happy. Hate to say it, but it worked.

OP2 years agoSure. I just don't carry a lock around with me, just put in my clothes and keys. I expect if some thief figured out what car the keys are for they would take one look and say ah, heck no, and leave in disgust.

·2 years agoThere's some confusion there, and the photo has low resolution so I can't tell if it's cassette or CD cases.
IAC, cassettes you can wait for eternity to sell, unfortunately.

Just listened to a relatively short Ray Bradbury book, and it was several CDs. I don't mind the CD format for a long car ride, but cassettes are definitely out. Couldn't play one if I wanted to. (Cassettes haven't been installed in new cars for more than a decade, and CD players will also be extinct soon enough.)

Yes all media that has been replaced BUT does not mean there is not a small market for them
I actually sold some 8 Tracks just a couple weeks ago (not here but swap meet) that brought in a high dollar return for me
Still sell CD's, DVD, Blu-Ray - sure not as in demand but still a market for them

·2 years agoI hear you. We're at least two decades into the supposed death of the printed book. It always puzzled me why so many people got invested, almost gleefully so, in the prospect that physical books would go away. Not only has it not happened, but print books still easily dominate the market over e-formats.

Hey @keziak from another thread I remember folks bringing up checking and repricing.
For listings that have been up awhile, adjusting prices will be paramount for getting them sold.

·2 years agoIt means every single word contained in the 1000+ pages of the original book. Many if not most (lengthy) books are edited/condensed for the audio book editions.

OP2 years agoI find the issue of abridged and unabridged audiobooks interesting. Are many people against abridgement and only want the more expensive unabridged sets? Other people don't care? I'm not an audiobook consumer myself, don't even have time to follow podcasts. My exercise program isn't geared towards listening to music or audiobooks (lap swimming).

·2 years agoI personally have found that most people want the UNABRIDGED editions and will pay more for them. I have learned to ONLY buy Unabridged when I can find them and pass on the Abridged editions. Good Luck.

OP2 years agoit's an interesting question if they would use music from the movie as a background to a spoken word audiobook. True talk, I don't have a CD player myself!

·2 years agoI'm a huge, long-time fan of audiobooks and audiodrama and rarely purchase CDs these days if I can simply purchase downloads unless the work is not available for download. I've also found it impossible to sell CDs now (I used to sell everything I listed) despite the continuing popularity of audio.
It's important to put the narrator front and center, though - some narrators aren't very good with fiction.

·2 years agoWhen there are a lot of an item listed, many buyers will search by lowest price first. Check and see how your prices compare to others listed. If yours are high, they will be pages back and not get seen.

OP2 years agoThe audiobooks I am referencing in this thread are the "Deathlands". I've increased the number of volumes in a listing and pricing too low to be honest about it, just stubborn enough to want to sell them rather than give them (boxes) to Goodwill or something. But the time will come when I'll give up on these, have other stuff to list.

·2 years agoI searched two of your audio book titles (refined to Audio Books sub-category) using only the author name.
In Best Match I found both of them and both were in the top 10 results.
When you are doing your searching are you logged in with your selling account? If so then what you see is not the same as what a buyer will see in search results.

OP2 years agoI didn't consider that. Well, here's to hoping the stuff will actually sell in the end. I contacted the used bookstore to see if they would like them for trade credit and they said they have little interest in any audiobooks these days.

·2 years agoI'm sure audiobooks and DVD-Blue-Ray are not in much demand as they once were BUT there are people that collect and add to there library.
I have a HUGE library of DVD-DVD HD-Blue-Ray still to sell and I will list them
Might be a much smaller market now but do not give up

OP2 years agoIt was interesting to talk about media with the manager of this local used book store (a major store in the region). She said audiobooks don't sell and doesn't want to see any brought in. But when I said something like "yeah, like DVDs" she disagreed strongly. At the end of the day it's much the same thing with books, CDs, DVDs and Blu-rays and what have you. Lots are crap that nobody wants. This store rejected any DVDs I brought in. But they still want the GOOD ones. The trick is to have those and not the crummy stuff.
