getting paid
Customer service person says to me. Good News! while you have accepted an offer for an Item u r selling and waiting for buyer to pay, another buyer can acquire the item if the secondary buyer pays for it. If that is true, how can a secondary buyer see it if its not in the active listings? I looked for it but nowhere to be found. So, I called customer service and was told no. The buyer has 4 days to pay. What? This sounds like a low rent deal to be sure. It is bad enough that buyers get 4 days to pay, which is a draconian dictum that ebay has stood by for years that makes no sense. I as a seller should be the only one to grant that. Where in the real world is this a practice that is taken away from the seller. How about lay a way or a deposit and hold? Anything like that is decided before the fact. Even worse it can be down onle when a offer is accepted! So, I accept an offer and then get squeegeed by having to wait. Does somebody in the conisentia at this outfit see the poor rationale for this? Please tell me I am not alone in thinking that is as misguided as it gets. How can a company of this size allow such a shortsighted decision to exist for so long. Look, I want my money, I need my money. Does ebay allow me to skate when I buy their services? What is wrong here?

OP1 year agoRight. So how can it be available for another buyer to get it. It is not based on what they say. It is only to placate sellers who object to the 4 day policy. My whole objection is what makes it different from a normal sale where the seller can demand immediate payment. Additionally, I am not against a day. That at least allows the buyer to contact the seller and ask for an arrangement. And actually that should be done before the purchase. I mean there are norms for behavior in commerce. Also common courtesy. I try to winnow unreliable buyes through my seller account. Why should that be overridden by this "offer" category. Its still a sale. not a lay a way. IMHO

As I explained earlier in the thread. Most sellers likely really like this 4 day Cancellation process for Non Paying Buyers because it is much better than the system we had before.
I'm sorry you don't like it. But it is what you have to deal with. Ebay isn't going to change the policy because you don't agree with it.
How many unpaid items are you getting in the average week or month?
bilzbigdealz
OP1 year agoI know and I get it but I like a cash flow as I am sure ebay does also. What strikes me is why do they allow a seller to require immedient payment on non offer sales. Whats different about sales that an ofer is accepted on? I have not been able to get a decent rationale for that yet. And would not care except that if a buyer needs to make arrangements that should be within the purview of the seller.

·1 year agowhile you have accepted an offer for an Item u r selling and waiting for buyer to pay, another buyer can acquire the item if the secondary buyer pays for it.
If accept an offer, the item is not really sold until the buyer pays. During the meantime, another buy can still purchase it a regular price.
Does somebody in the conisentia at this outfit see the poor rationale for this
Nope. This is done to encourage buyers to pay quickly and it is a good thing IMHO.
If that is true, how can a secondary buyer see it if its not in the active listings? I looked for it but nowhere to be found.
If you "I looked for it but nowhere to be found" then I suspect you simply made a mistake when searching.
I as a seller should be the only one to grant that.
eBay recently gave sellers the ability to require a payment method before making an offer. (But eBay has a habit of slowly rolling out new features so it may not be available to all).

OP1 year agoI know how to check for an item. I also ran it by Customer Service on 2 separate calls and they couldnt locate it either. How does requiring a payment method get me paid? I can work with the other buyer getting it by paying but if it cant be seen... I looked at my listings, I did a search for the item number and description also. So what other ways would you suggest?

·1 year agoActually as the seller eBay has given you the ability to control the 4 day window. In your account settings go to the following. Simple solution. Realize it does come with trade offs.
https://www.ebay.com/bmgt/buyerrequirements
Check the following 2 boxes.
bilzbigdealz
OP1 year agoI went there and those boxes had always been checked off. Plus that doesent change this 4 day deal. So I dont understand how that slves my issue.

If those boxes are checked then it should resolve your issue. It is the same as having immediate payment required set for BIN listings. If the function is not working properly you need to contact eBay support through one of the social media sites.

OP1 year agoDo you mean like facebook?

·1 year agoOn each Ebay page there is a link to contact Customer Service at the top of the page and again at the bottom of the page.
I would suggest that you contact Ebay for Business on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter for the better trained CSRs.
Here are your options for contacting Ebay Customer Service. Please be aware that for social media CS, you send them a Private Message and briefly explain what your problem or issue is. Feel free to leave your Name, address, phone number and/or your email address in this message. It is private and secure and it may help to speed up the response for you.
https://twitter.com/askebay
https://www.facebook.com/ebay
https://www.instagram.com/ebayforsellers/
Your options will be on the left. If you use the link below you can only get to the Automated Assistant or Chat box type AGENT in the box and hit enter. You will then get more options. Not all options are available 24/7. It will depend on staffing available. So sometimes you can request a call back and sometimes you can't. Sometimes you have the Chat option available and other times it won't me. If it is important to you to use one of those options, just try back later.
If you use a cell phone or other mobile device, you may need to turn off your Spam filter so that Ebay can call you.
If you are a seller outside of the US or Canada, you will need to use the Chat Option.

·1 year agoMy settings have BOTH of those boxes checked, buyers are supposedly required to have a payment method before they place a bid or make an offer, yet still I deal with waiting for days hoping to get paid and complete the sale. Buyer sends an offer, I accept the offer, it sits in "pending" "awaiting payment", then crickets. After four days, it "expires" and I have no sale. I have no idea if the "buyer" got a non-payment strike or not. Where in the real world can you tell a merchant you want to buy a product, they remove it from their shelf, and then wait for you to get around to paying or not? I immediately pull the item off other sites as I'm trying to respect the accepted eBay buyer's offer, and then I wait for payment, only to lose the sale. In this day and age of instant payments everywhere, this seems ridiculous to me.
bilzbigdealz
OP1 year agoyou are correct. It is ridiculous. In my experience, these forums are too. The customer service function is no help to sellers and then you try the forums and its very rare you will find help. Usually youll get someone lacking in a soul. If somebody tells you to try facebook ebay? Same thing, in my experience. It gets proven in subtle things like how they trumpet how much the measures are helping the sellers. And they do this and that for seller protection. Its propaganda because they dont really give you the help you need but what they want to allow. Thats why they have to promote it. I come from companies that considered internal and external customer service and its not that hard to implement if there is a will to do the right thing. Ebays too far around the bend for that and immersed in their culture. Notice how they raised rates while thgey still had an excuse to do so before the resurrection of our economy? But its actually the best youll find so dont be too discouraged. But, we need prophets to point out where things could improve, and thats me.

·1 year ago"I as a seller should be the only one to grant that."
Well actually you did grant that. Your complaint is in the policy. When you accept an offer from the buyer the buyer has a certain amount of time to pay. However the item is still up for sale for someone else to purchase. Ebay changed this rule due to nonpaying buyers. It is actually a good thing cause why should an item not be up for sale due to a nonpaying buyer. Makes no sense. They should be paying for it right away. Yes you need your money now but remember you are running a business. If you need money right away then don't accept offers. Have fixed price no offers and the buyer pays immediately.
bilzbigdealz
OP1 year agoMy problem is that it is not still up for sale. I could not find it listed. It was not on my list of active items or available as a search in open items. The customer service people said thats true. It is not available on open saleable items. But only if someone was aware of it before. So if it is not out there how can it still be available if some buyer pays for it other than the other. Also I want to control the time frame. 1 day, 2 ok. Not 4. Or contact me ahead of time to set something up. Now I saw one response saying I can adjust the days and gave out a link. Danged if I could find it. Im trying to go through all of the responses. Thanks to all of you who tried to help. Merry whatever you celebrate.
bilzbigdealz
OP1 year agoThat is right I dont agree with the policy. But I would like to verify that the item is available and viewable. Thats what my complaint is really with. i do understand the BU 101 aspect of it also, thank you very much. However, if its not available to the market, then something is wrong. So now tell me how to verify that it is available.
mam98031
·1 year agoYou can resolve your issue easily. Set your buy it now listings to be IPR. Then buyers can't purchase it unless they pay for it.
As for the current system where we can file a Cancellation 96 hours after a buyer purchased something because they didn't pay, if you think this is too much time, then you have not been having a big problem with non payers. The old system took longer. Since you didn't know that, it is not likely this is a big issue for you.
bilzbigdealz
OP1 year agoWhat is an IPR? I do have it set to pay immedietly. But accepting and offer negates that. At least that is what was noted on screen.
mtgraves7984
·1 year ago@bilzbigdealz
IPR = Immediate Payment Required. It's used with Buy It Now listings. You're correct... 'offers' negate that feature.
mam98031
·1 year agoIPR = Immediate Payment Required. And for your fixed price listings, you can check a box in your listing setup to require a buyer has to pay at the time of purchase.
In your original post, you didn't say anything about offers.
