first wrong address then buyer said sold item was poor quality.
I sold a ralph lauren tote and the buyer told me after I mailed it that it was the wrong address. she then gave me the correct "complete" address. I watched on tracking and the tote was sent back to me as undeliverable. I asked how she wanted to proceed but she didn't respond. It was Christmas, so I went ahead and bought the new mailing label from my funds in the spirit of the holidays. She received this tote on December 1. on December 3 I sent a message verifying she received it and please give me good feedback. On December 26 she said she received it and wanted to return due to poor quality. This was in exceptional condition. My photos show a pristine canvas tote. I state in my listing that I am not keen on returns, but contact me if not satisfied and we can work something out. I don't know what to do. I told her I would ask Ebay about this. she had the tote 25 days and it was truly a quality product.

·2 years agoNot every transaction will go perfectly.
What if it comes back dirty, used or damaged?
What if it doesn't?
What if it comes back with a $50 Apple gift card forgotten in the side pocket?
What if?
It's business not personal.
Get it back.
Refund.
Go from there.

Never ask for feedback.
Tell her to open a Not As Described Claim.
If she does, send a Return Shipping Label and refund when you receive it.
This may be too much like work for her, and you win the Claim.
No refunds without returns.
When/if you get it back, refund, add her to your Blocked Bidder List with no communication, verify condition, relist, resell.

OP2 years agoBut this bag was in mint condition. What if it comes back dirty, used or damaged? I stayed I don't accept refunds ( as my policy) but in my listing I saw I want satisfied customers and we can work through it. I see now that's a misleading message. I've never encountered this before

If it comes back dirty, used or damaged, then your bag lost some value. Re-price and relist.
'No Returns' and 'no refunds' are different beasts. Sellers can 'not accept returns', but sometimes sellers do have to issue refunds.

Buyer received item on December 1...buyer has 30 days to ask for a refund and needs to open a claim.
I guess if you hear nothing in 30 days no need to worry....unless buyer opens a credit cared dispute.

·2 years agoWhen you received the item back and the buyer did not respond, you should have just refunded and relisted the item.
You ship to the address that eBay gives you. Not an alternate address just because the buyer sends you a message.
What I always wonder is did you review this buyer's complete feedback profile?
Sounds like the buyer is playing the 30 day game to put pressure on you.
I think they love it! Just trying to get a response from you for a freebie or partial refund. Tracking shows delivered and buyer had had in their possession for 25 days and never said a thing until now.
@mtgraves7984 gave some great advice!

·2 years agoNever go out of your way for a buyer here, you will always pay dearly. Follow normal protocols in retail. eBay already gives buyers for more leniency than any of the stores do that I shop in.

it comes back to bite the seller in the worst possible way.
With the address issue from the start of the transaction, There was no way
this was going to turn out well.
I'd bet a dollar that the buyer used her new Ralph Lauren over the holidays and now wants to
return it as if it were a rental.
1) The OP should 100% require the buyer to file for a return
2) Stop communicating with her after doing #1
3) Sit back and see what happens.

·2 years agoNo good deed goes unpunished. Unfortunately, you have no alternative but to accept the return request. Nobody likes returns but that is all part of selling online.
EBAY Money Back Guarantee (supersedes "no returns" policy and allows customer to return item (30 days after receipt) by claiming "not as described, counterfeit, defective". Customers do NOT have to prove their claims. You will be forced to refund (purchase price + shipping BOTH ways). Better to allow returns because customer pay "all shipping costs" when a "buyer's remorse" refund.
Customer could also go to credit card company to get "payment reversed" (keep money + item).
Sorry this happened to you...

@stcroixfun
You don't have to do anything just yet... unless your buyer has opened a Return claim. If and when that happens, you need to approve the request (which will automate a return shipping label) and refund the buyer in full when the tote comes back to you. The eBay Money Back Guarantee covers buyers for 30 days.
