First time selling - nightmare!
Summary: piotrus-jeden shared their frustrating experience trying to sell an item on eBay after receiving incorrect goods that couldn't be returned. They faced issues with updating their address for shipping and encountered technical problems with the eBay website, fearing they might not receive payment. Several participants suggested solutions, such as manually updating tracking and verifying buyer payment before shipping. The discussion highlighted the importance of having updated seller information on eBay and addressed common challenges faced by international users on the platform.
After being sent some incorrect goods which I was not allowed to return, I thought I'd sell them on eBay, I mean, how difficult could it be. I've been buying on eBay for years. So I listed the item and in a couple of days it was sold. Now just to send it . I tried to get the prepaid label. As I had also lived abroad for a few years eBay would not allow me to change my address so I could not print a label as the website thought I was sending from outside the UK, even though for buying my address is listed as UK.
So I bought my own label, but now I cannot list the parcel as shipped as eBay keeps crashing, probably thinking I'm still abroad. I've messaged the seller to let them know I have sent the package, so we'll see what happens but I reckon I'll not get the money as eBay thinks I'm still abroad and refuses/crashes every time I to change my address and bank details - for selling, if I'm buying then all is ok. The buyer will get the item for free I think, as they will not be able to pay me, or the money will be lost in bays website somewhere.
Needless to say, I'll not be using eBay to sell anything again after this experience, too much of a hassle, should have just thrown the item away and not bothered trying to sell them.

·1 week agoI always encourage new sellers to do their homework before listing anything. Trying to wing it gets you into problems just like this one. Had you of done some research, you would have found out that Ebay will NOT let you change your registered address for the account to a different Country. That simply is not allowed. You would need to set up a new account using your correct USA address as the registered address.
Also in a listing, you are suppose to state the location in which the item ships from and it is suppose to be accurate. So even though someone may be selling with a registered account in the UK, if the item is shipping from a different address, even in a different country, you are suppose to accurately state that. It is a requirement in the selling rules.
If you buyer has paid you, Cancel the transaction with a problem with the address and fully refund the buyers. Do some homework to learn the basics for selling on this site, set up another account and try again. But do your homework. Assuming stuff is the quickest way to get yourself into trouble.
As for the stuff you purchased on Ebay. You could have filed for a return no matter what the return policy of the seller was. While the seller may decide they do not want to take the return, they would then have to refund you and let you keep the items. There are rules that cover all of this to protect you and the seller called the Money Back Guarantee.

·1 week agoWhy couldn't you return it?
If you receive the wrong item, you're covered by the MBG.

·1 week agoThe first time or two I sold something, I'm not sure I bought the label from eBay. I think I just somehow plugged in the tracking onto the order. There might be some way for you to put the tracking in yourself. Maybe a more experienced seller can give you more up-to-date advice.

·1 week agoSelling on eBay is not a hassle if you make sure all of your information is correct and arm yourself with a little knowledge before trying to sell. It is only a hassle when you don't make sure of all that and you end up with a situation on your hands like you have now.
I hope this all works out for you. A lot will depend on whether your buyer wants to be helpful or nasty.

·1 week agoAre you saying that the buyer didn't pay yet? I'm not sure how things work in the UK, but in the US, if the buyer hasn't paid yet, you should NOT send it. That would be the reason you didn't get the label to send it. If you relied on an e-mail saying you were paid, then that e-mail could have been sent by the buyer himself. If this is the case, I'm sorry this happened to you.

·1 week agoWhy do UK users like to post on the US boards?

·1 week agoBecause many UK links point to .com, then you look at "ebay help" and there's the link to "ask the community".
The OP's question really relates to that old chestnut of ebay allowing selling before the seller has filled in all the necessary info so they can actually collect the money from the sale.
Cart before the horse as the saying goes.

·1 week agoBecause I was a member before ebay.co.uk got going properly, they tell us Ebay is a community which is worldwide, they problem you get in the US are similar to what we experience here, no one gets special treatment due to geographical location.

·1 week agoIf you are in the US, use pirateship to generate your label. Then you can manually upload tracking for the buyer.
Then you need to update your address info along with your bank information so you can get paid.
