First Negative of the Season, Gotta Love the Holidays!
I sold someone some Brach's soft peppermint stir sticks. Packed in a box, bubble wrapped thick, and placed paper all around it. Woke up, December 23rd, to a negative saying the item was packed extremely well but the sticks arrived broken into 100's of pieces which means I knowingly packaged them broken. Say what? That's some warped way of thinking. If someone were to purposefully send out a broken item wouldn't they package it poorly to make it look like it was the fault of the shipping service or happened in transit? I mean these are candy canes. Even packed with the utmost care doesn't mean they won't break. So instead of emailing or opening a free return they just leave a negative accusing me of foul play. Gotta love the holidays, brings out all the best in people.

·9 months agoI'm glad that you talked to her and it worked out for you! I got my first negative on Christmas day years ago. LOL. It's still there buried deep.
Happy holidays to you!

·9 months agoNo holiday negatives, however I have had more returns in the last week than I had the rest of the year combined.

I don't know you. I believe your description of your packaging.
I would not buy those candy canes or any item I ingested on Ebay, from you or anyone else.
I would assume the items were not from an authorized seller who was part of the distribution chain for the product.
I would believe it was obtained from a clearance shelf or some other source of inferior quality product.
And its sale by a seller who is selling in many unrelated categories would reinforce my admittedly prejudiced attitude.
This product could have been mishandled any time prior to your purchase, and I would assume the worst if it is listed here.

OP9 months agoTo each their own. You don't have to buy candy on eBay, others prefer to do so. I run a pretty solid business around it. Of course it's not the only thing I sell but they do sell very well. I sell them every year, 100's of them. Your beliefs are your beliefs, just like everyone else has their own. You are not required to purchase anything you do not wan to. I'm not sure why this is relevant to this post at all. Assuming the worst is your problem, not mine.

·9 months agoThose Peppermint Sticks, even if you took them out of the package and wrapped them one by one with bubble wrap, there's a 92.8% chance of them breaking during common carrier shipping . Consumable products like this probably wasn't meant to be shipped individually in this manner. Kind of relates to one of us Sellers here on ebay trying to sell and ship Eggs by the dozen using the Post Office, UPS, so on.
If you have any more listed, take them down now. Negative avoided. Lesson learned. 😄

·9 months agoI agree.
Can't even buy them at a store without them being broken.

Eggs, duck, chicken, etc...are shipped all the time. To farms and backyard growers. They mostly arrive okay.

·9 months agoHotwheels, how do the candy canes get anywhere? Especially unbroken...

OP9 months agoOh I sell lots and lots and lots of these. I've sold these for the better part of 15 years. Literally the only negative I've ever received for them being broken. And that was resolved as well. I don't get scared away by 1 instance of USPS mishandling. It isn't enough for me to decide to quit something. They were wrapped in bubble wrap, a lot of it. Placed in a sealed plastic bag, boxed and surrounded by paper. They were more protected then when they arrived to the stores. I will not be taking them down. The same can go for when you ship hotwheels. They have fragile plastic casing not made to be shipped individually to the stores, however, you package them yourself to send out. To each their own. I've sold over 85,000 items on eBay, I'm doing something right.

·9 months agoEbay is a numbers game. How often does this happen compared to not happening? Do the math. I'll wait.

OP9 months agoOh I agree, I don't need the "do the math, I'll wait" part. In case you didn't read my follow-up, please do. Have a wonderful holiday. On a side note, I've been selling a very long time. I'm not perfect by any means and me being human also deserve to vent. I'm sure you do as well and appreciate it when people aren't condescending when you do.

·9 months agoBut think of all the automatic feedback you are now getting that will offset those dumb negatives.
People are stressed out and the negatives can be a tool they use to punish someone for their frustrations.
I don't see the negative. Did it get removed or is it another account?

OP9 months agoWhat's ironic is that I was quick to make this post, just like my buyer was quick to leave a negative. I actually called her, which I never do. And we talked and she was a really sweet lady and she agreed to change it. She even said to not send her a new one and do not refund her. But I refunded her anyway because her item arrived broken, it's the very least I can do. Add me to the list of stressed out people!

·9 months agoThe phone call is a great way to resolve the issue. I require my buyers to provide a phone number on all orders. I rarely need it, but it gives me peace of mind knowing that I can reach out to a buyer if I need to.
I think that a lot of newer buyers and wary buyers see a big feedback number and figure they are not working with an individual seller rather than a big business. A quick negative seems nothing to the big box stores but for someone that has built a little business on eBay it stings quite a bit.
