Finding the item you’re selling
I posted a handmade quilt for sale and paid to promote it. I’ve had several people try to search for it and it’s not coming up. What the deal?

Sometimes listings don't show for up to 24 hours. Remember when you're posting a listing, so are thousands of other sellers.
Gorgeous Quilt! Hope you sell it.
Happy Selling.

·2 years agoSearch is weird. I tried "handmade quilt" in all categories and sorted for highest price. I got a bunch of Chanel purses that had neither keywords in the titles.

·2 years agoProbably because there are over 7,300 handmade quilits available on EBAY. When I did an EBAY search for "handmade quilt QUEEN SIZE" yours does appear (but it is the most expense and that could be why there are no bids). Your quilt is beautiful and obviously a lot of work went into and you deserve to ask a fair price for all your work.
You should change your listing to BUY IT NOW and set price you want to get. This gives customers 30-days to find your item. You need to decide if you want to sell item quickly (reduce price) or wait for many months to get your asking price.
People on EBAY are looking for "rock bottom" pricing. You might do better advertised on site that only sells "handmade crafts". This way your pricing will be in line with the other sellers.
Good luck to you.

·2 years agoWhen I click to look at your current listings, there are several other items plus a hand made quilt for $1500 and it has about three more days to run.
How are those several people searching?

·2 years agoWhat do people interested in a home made quilt use for search terms?
The OP is from Wabash IN and I live about 60 miles from her. I'm in the heart of Amish
country. If I were in the market for a quilt, I'd use the search term "Amish"
"Heirloom" "Folk Art" "Mennonite"
I wouldn't put Amish or Mennonite in the title if it isn't. But I'd put those search terms in
my item specifics for sure.
And as a resident deep in the heart of Amish/Mennonite Indiana, IMO
that's a fantastic quilt.
I'd also omit the auction and make it strictly BIN

·2 years agoCouldn't that end up being problematic for OP? It seems like a kind of keyword spamming, when a quilt is not Amish- or Mennonite-made.
And at least among my Amish and Mennonite neighbors here in Central PA, quilting is never done on a sewing machine. (The piecing is often done on a treadle machine, but never the quilting.)
In any event, that may be just quibbling -- I agree with you that it is a spectacular quilt, not overpriced at $1500.

·2 years agoI wouldn't put Amish or Mennonite in the title, But putting those words in the item
specifics would get a view when those words were searched by a potential buyer.
I can't remember the last time I heard of somebody getting slapped for using
the wrong word in items specifics. Titles yes, For sure.
If a buyer were looking specifically for an Amish origin quilt, And came across
the listing for the OPs, I don't think they'd mind.
It might be a bargain at $1500.00

·2 years agoYou do NOT have it in the right category compared to all the other 'handmade quilts'.
You have it under 'crafts' vs what others have

OTHERS:

·2 years agoAgreed, could be an issue there. Quilts can be listed under several categories, such as Collectibles, Home & Garden, and Crafts.

·2 years agoFor a handmade/ unique quilt the category is right.
The other would have the quilt competing with mass produced items from overseas.

·2 years agoBut there are numerous categories, but when you input the keyword 'handmade quilt' and the OPs listing is NOT found, it is obvious that the listings returned are NOT from the 'Craft' category, which is what the OP is using...
So, I would change the category to 'match' what others are using when using the search term 'handmade quilt'.

·2 years agoTitle makes it hard to find....omit the words..."Handmade & Machine"....and make the first word in title : "Quilt".
That should do it. Add those other words in descriptions.

·2 years agoHi, it can take up to 24 hours for a listing to index and show up in Search results.
That said, i see in your listings a quilt listed for $1500 with the title, “Handmade & Machine Quilted Queen Size Quilt Cotton Completely Finished 96x96â€.
