Final Value Fees for a sale in hospital
I was wondering if I am able to request the return of Final Value Fees for a sale that went through while I was in the hospital and a rehab for a sudden, serious illness? This has never happened where I could not complete a sale in the 20 years I have been selling on eBay. I am not an income generating seller and just sell various things I need to get rid of.
Towards the end of May I needed to go to hospital and subsequently a medical rehab facility for nearly a month. I sold an item that I had no way of knowing sold and that was subsequently refunded to the buyer. I was charged a substantial FVF and only discovered these course of events this week.
Since I've never had this kind of issue in the past, any advice would be most welcome.

·2 years agoWhether hospitalization was planned or not, it is important to have a backup plan in place.
Either putting the entire account on Time Away (with no sales allowed) or having a trusted person with the ability to access the account and deal with problems that might arise while the account holder is not available.
OTOH - what a Get Out of Jail Free card for those who decide they don't want to complete a transaction because the bidding didn't go high enough or the shipping will be more than they thought.

·2 years agoIn the future I suggest you implement Time Away settings which you can do from the app on your phone, or have an emergency plan where a trusted family member can log in and end your listings.
I'm assuming the item sold, the buyer filed a non-receipt claim, and when you didn't respond the buyer asked eBay to step in so eBay forced the refund. When eBay steps in it forfeits your fees.
You can contact customer service - sometimes they will grant a one-time-only per account lifetime courtesy credit. But generally speaking, per the site's user agreement, you owe the $$ and eBay does not have to grant you a courtesy anything.
