Ffraudulent returns
I recently shipped an item out to a customer only to be told that I shipped the wrong item. Now, I know this is a lie because I make sure that the items listed for sale are kept in a separate location and a separate box and the items have been inspected numerous times to ensure the count and the type match. My question is how are honest eBay sellers to protect themselves from this kind of fraud?

It is the absolute ONLY way vs. selling at ANY website using Electronic payment as ALL Electronic Payments can be reversed.

There's no way you can prove you shipped the right item.
You can't prove what the buyer says they received.

Given the fragility of electronics, packaging if very very very important.
And even then....
Sadly, between accidental damage in transit and a sketchy customer demographic, your best bet is to pay for the return shipping, refund on arrival, and if after inspection the computer works, sell it locally for pickup where the customer can inspect before payment.

·8 months agoThere is no way for you to be certain. A simple possibility not accounted for in what you just described, for instance, would be you simply placing the wrong shipping label on the box (most of us sellers have done that at some point).
If the customer opens a return request for Item Not As Described, you accept it and get whatever they received back, and issue a refund. The only exception is if you receive something back and it's clearly been switched, and then you may be able to reach out to eBay and sign something stating that it was switched. I did that recently, and it worked out for us. But all of that depends on accepting the return and getting them to ship it back (and do not issue a refund before you receive the returned item).
