OK, so I got an order and noticed that Fex Ex ground economy is a little less than USPS ground advantage. Yes, I know I'm required to use USPS ground advantage, just checking it out. A message that popped up for Fex Ex ground economy shipping screen. What the heck is this about? " To avoid having your package confiscated by USPS, please ensure that your package is dropped off at a FedEx location". I've never used Fex Ex ground economy but if I was to since it cheaper, I sure don't want the package confiscated by USPS. Anyone know what the deal is here? And FYI destination appears to be a farm in a rural area in the midwest.
What does USPS have to with a package being delivered by FedEx?

·4 months agoIt says that if you buy a Fedex label and drop it off at the USPS, you have not paid USPS postage so they are not going to deliver it or return it to you.

·4 months agoUPS and Fedex both have combination services where they deliver the item to the final post office and then the post office delivers the package. However people were abusing the cheaper service and dropping the items off at the post office instead. They eventually stated that they wouldn't put up with that anymore.
You can use Fedex Ground Economy even if you have USPS Ground Advantage listed. I literally do that every day of the week. You only truly lock yourself into a single service if you offer the customer a choice of services, otherwise the only thing that matters is that it gets delivered on time.

OP4 months agoMy only peve with Fedex is my experiece with One Rate
where the exterior dimensions of the boxes are 1/4" larger than the listed dimensions by box mfg and
I end up getting an additional charge. I have an account as well as use Ebay.
With ebay at least they inform you there's been a change.
On my account, I noticed a charge on my credit card (Paypal with 3% back)
for $40 and I have no idea what it is for. No email, no invoice, (except on the site buried deep in my account). I think I used a Fed Pak with a small package enclosed and wrapped in bubble wrap to make it soft.
FedEx CS told me anything that fit is ok, so no idea what they are up to but the
constant upcharges are infuriating and makes it not such a good deal.
Not sure if Fedex Ground Economy will also be a problem. If I add an inch to every dimension, it's not a better deal. USPS is not so picky and picks up at my door which I like even more in the age of $6 gas.
So...hmmm.

·4 months agoFedEx Ground Economy is a FedEx service that delivers the package to the recipient's local post office for the final delivery by USPS.
All that message is saying, essentially, is drop it off at a FedEx location -- not USPS, or they'll confiscate it.

OP4 months agoDUH! Why would i drop off at USPS if it's a FedEx package? Wierd.
Is this a reliable service? Is it better or worse than
USPS ground advantage? Because USPS ground advantage absoulty sux.

·4 months agoBecause people drop wrong packages off before. IN the Past all 3 carrier services will help get it to the right carrier. As of last year they stop doing that and telling people dont mess it up the first time.

·4 months agoNot sure about FEDEX but with UPS ground saver, when you print a label, it has UPS and USPS printed on label. Also if I remember right, before they canceled and renew their contracts, you could drop off both at PO and they'd pick them up but not now.

·4 months agoUp until a year or two ago (maybe longer), you could drop off FedEx packages at the post office. You could also do this with UPS. Sometime around the end of 2024 (after Covid), all three carriers decided to go their own ways. That reminder is just to let you know you can no longer do this.
It has nothing to do with people abusing the service. It was just a practical decision for all three carriers, since each company had to make provisions to get the packages to one another. USPS didn't have the infrastructure (or money) to process...deliver... the larger items, or most of the smaller ones, to their counterpart's local hubs so they're imposing the heaviest penalties. All three companies had special areas in each hub for one another's packages, but, as with the vehicles, there really was never enough room for packages that were shipping via UPS/FedEx/Amazon (you may have noticed very few Amazon packages, other than "smalls", come through the post office anymore either).
There's a reason why FedEx and UPS "cars" (delivery vehicles) are so much larger than LLVs.
