Feedback
Summary: 5star_general_seller questions why a full refund results in the same low rating as not getting one, suggesting a structured rating system based on transaction outcomes. inhawaii argues that refunds don't change the negative experience for the buyer, while pickapaper shares a scenario where a refund doesn't compensate for a canceled order, emphasizing the lack of satisfaction despite receiving money back. The exchange highlights differing views on the importance and interpretation of feedback ratings.
If someone is given a full refund for a purchase, why would it be considered the same rating as if someone got no refund in the transaction? Just seems like if you at least made it right with the buyer, a 50% rating should be mandatory at the minimum.
just for example
1 star = absolute worst outcome possible. Loss of $ on purchase, Multiple days to cancel,
2 star = buyer had 0$ loss but multiple day loss waiting on cancelation
3 star = seller canceled on first day and buyer suffered 0$ loss.
4 star = everything went correct
5 star = seller exceeded expectations
Everyone rates differently and the rating system is useless if there is no foundation for grading your experience or instead rating the items quality over sellers credibility.
If you cant stay on topic, dont reply.

·1 week agoSay i buy something from you, and it is a hard-to-find item that I've been looking for, for a long time. Then you cancel the order because you listed it at auction and it didn't bring the money you hoped for, or you didn't charge enough postage, or whatever other reason you come up with, and to top it off, when you cancel the order, you put down the reason as "buyer requested". You give me a refund promptly and that is supposed to make it okay and make me feel better? No, I'm angry because I bought something from you and you reneged on the order and you lied about it.
Just because you "made it right" does not deserve a better rating.

·1 week agoFirst of all...
Nobody pays attention to the star ratings.
Secondly...
Feedback is all about a buyer's experience.
You can't "buy" your way out of a bad experience.
Refunding a customer doesn't turn a bad experience into a good one.
If someone wins an auction from me and then I have to cancel the sale because I can't find the item, just because I refund them does not make it a good experience.

OP1 week agoSo why offer the 1-5 star rating to rate them ?

·1 week agoHonestly, that's a good point. I think it might be that star ratings are so prevalent in society that ebay just followed along. I must say I do look at them sometimes with depending on the product/service. When I book hotels I always look at the star ratings. On ebay I rarely look at the star ratings.
