You should "review your items" and make sure that are in the right category (your Queen Victorian ashtrays, soup tureen, nut dish are listed in LAMPS Category). All your items seem to be listed in the wrong category (this is why customer's cannot find your items).
I also noticed that your "item specifics" were not filled out (this is what drives EBAY search engine). It is important to fill out all Item Specifics that apply to your item.

Well yes as others stated sellers pay for the exposure as well as listing constantly. The more active you are the more stuff happens. If you have a very small amount of stuff for sale as you do other Ebay stores will take priority over yours. Comes down how much you want to invest.

Yep, and there are a variety of reasons why. Some pay for it, some are just better at getting their items placed in searches organically, some have more listings or attractive features on their listings that eBay chooses to promote for them, etc.

Very good example there. Really nice vintage ashtrays will sell (depending on the design of course), there are not many sellers of them, and of those who sell them, not all will have the same example as yours. There's a good chance that yours will sell for the right price.
Contrast that with the latest Nike shoes: everyone and their brother are selling them, some are stolen, some are fake, the same model is available from dozens if not hundreds of sellers, and eBay will cheerfully take as much as you are willing to pay to somehow get your listing ahead of all those others who are not willing to pay as much. Ocean, meet teaspoon. So yes, some sellers will get more exposure than others.

Sellers who list constantly get better placement.
Sellers who sell a lot get better placement.
Sellers with no Defects get better placement.
Sellers who offer international shipping get better placement.
Sellers who offer Free Shipping get better placement.
That's the point of the whole Top Rated Seller program and badges.
