End Listing & Sell Similar
I know everybody is different, sell different types of items and some have a store and some don't. I am curious what is your threshold for number of views on a listing where the listing is near it's auto-relist time that you end the listing and sell similar to reset the alogorithm on that listing?
How many views with zero watchers do you let it ride and let it automatically renew? Do you ever end the listing and sell similar if the listing has a low number of views but has watchers? Are they notified if the item has been relisted like a new listing?
Just curious.
This forum won't link to my listings because my ID changed, so here's the direct link — https://www.ebay.com/usr/stevessportsfinds

·4 months agoWhen you Sell Similar, you will forfeit your External Views from search engines for a while. You should look at Review Your Traffic and then decide if it is worth it, for you.
Seller Hub > Performance > Traffic https://www.ebay.com/sh/performance/traffic
Then click on the Listing Views tab

·4 months agoI list and let them go.
I might edit the listing in 6 months, but I don't end and relist.

·4 months agoMy threshold is ... I don't even look at the number of views.

·4 months agoAbout once a month I go through my dead listings, listings with minimal views, and end them. I usually wait a week or two and then start slowly relisting them using sell similar. This gives me a chance to edit and tinker with my listings. Surprisingly this seems to work and I sell a few of those dead listings.

OP4 months agoLooking at your sports collection we have the same pin "Indiana Groans" ... LOL ... I actually talked the usher into giving me her pin as I sat in the Indiana section with a IU polo shirt and hat on.

·4 months agoI don't look at watchers at all. I don't have any interest in amassing watchers. In fact, I actually prefer to "clear the deck" about once a month. Let my fellow sellers have to work a little bit to keep up (or down) with my prices. If I lose some legit buyers in the process, so be it. They'll find my items again if they're genuinely interested and, honestly, so many real watchers have 1) either forgotten they're watching and already purchased the item elsewhere or 2) just circling waiting for prices to drop (which typically ain't gonna happen with me since I run sales--temporary price reductions, not markdowns--all the time).
I just end/sell similar within a day or two of the day the item would renew on its own. It gives me an opportunity to scan through prices and look for errors. I do it in bulk so it takes very little time. For example, there were 66 items scheduled to renew this morning. I went in and ended all 66, went to the inactives, selected all 66, hit sell similar, then scrolled through and noticed at least three items that were due for price increases and one that needed to come down. In the end I raised the price on four items and lowered one. Everything else looked okay (it's possible I missed something of course) so I hit submit and that was that.

OP4 months agoThat bulk edit is the way to go. I have done that a few times. I like your thoughts about "watchers", I have felt the same way when I put myself in their place. I am not implusive buyer, I look around when I do but if I wanted it that bad it would have already been bought in my view.
Do you schedule them or relist them immediately?

·4 months agoI don't see any reason to schedule them. They're all BIN so it makes no difference when they start or end. Back in the day, when auctions were the only format, we had to consider end times to avoid a low closing price but it doesn't matter anymore. Your price is your price. People shop 24/7. The site traffic is probably still highest between 6pm and 9pm Eastern, but buyers buy at all hours.

·4 months agoWe sell different types of items than you(varied collectibles versus sport items).........so my post may be irrelevant.
I don't pay too much attention to watchers.....tho an immediate hit tells me someone has an auto search probably. But is it a seller or buyer? No way to tell.
I don't end/relist.....I need ONE person to come along and buy......that person may come along next wk/mo/year. Had a cluster recently of selling things 3-4 yrs listed....I have no idea why....but certainly happy about it. I did do some few price reductions, but none of those were among the items sold....lol, go figure.

OP4 months agoWell that answers a question I had ... are those listings that are auto-relisted and have been listed for years (in your case) or two months (in my case), ever seen again after a lot time of not being viewes. I guess they definitely are based on your sales results. That's great.
I was a full time ebay seller 20 years ago and just started again in March to clear out my house of garage sale type stuff. Then I got the 'bug' again and started buying and selling inventory.
Yes, "go figure" on why, how and when something sells out of the blue. I have had a few of those and I almost start laughing as I package it for shipment.
Thanks for your reply.

·4 months agoGood morning -
I personally do this every morning for all items and it works well for me - the items that are scheduled to end that day are ended and I sell similar and schedule them out through the day - I will also take this time to check that my item specifics are as complete and as accurate as possible and to maybe clean up a photo I may have forgotten to crop before. Also, make any price adjustments at this time, etc.
I have been doing it this way for a while and it seems to work very well. Items that just roll over seem to get lost over time.
If you are selling from a warehouse in bulk and you have daily, consistent sales, it is probably best to let that energy roll over without the sell similar action.
Happy sales -

OP4 months agoI do the same while having my morning coffee. I have not done everything that are scheduled to end but that idea sounds like it would be a positive move. You say you re-sechedule them throughout the day. Does that timing make a difference to the algorithm or should everything be listed during "prime time" 6pm to 9pm ET?
I have found out that item specifics are more important for searches then I thought, and in some cases I will add my own specifics that seems to help. Sometimes I will flip my first photo with another, change the title a little and will do a current check on sales comps to see if I need to adjust the price.
Intentionally I tried to keep the initial listings to around 12 per day so there really isn't that much to do if I were to end and sell similar every day .. I am curious about that "schedule them throughout the day". I like that idea.
Thanks for your information, very helpful.

·4 months agoWhat I do is schedule my first item to begin at 7 am West Coast time and I click the little button that allows me to space the rest of them out about 10 minutes apart (or whatever I feel like that day) - instead of dumping them all in to begin at once - this shows the algorithm that my store is remaining active throughout the day.
I also review my "quality listings report" (under the performance tab) as regularly as ebay releases it - this will tell you where your listings stand and what improvements they suggest - it will also tell you if what you are doing is working and if the algorithm is treating you favorably (by showing your category rank when compared to other sellers). Highly, HIGHLY recommended. I just wish they created this report more often. My last report was released May 6th...

OP4 months agoThanks for letting me know about that Quality Listings Report. I had looked at that performance page but never downloaded the report. My only one was also May 6th. I went through it line by line. Actually surprised how well they think I am doing. Almost all their recommendations were to "Promote" and I have some listings that need more photos to get to 7 ... that is hard to do with a ticket stub. LOL
I will put that as a reminder to check for a new report monthly.

·4 months agoSounds as if you are doing everything right!
Same on the photos for me, but how many angles can we possible get on a Tupperware lid? 😄 I do my best.
Happy sales!

·4 months agoI've been selling on ebay for over ten years and never knew this report existed, but I've never really been a 'serious' seller. Very useful report; surprisingly it shows me in the top 5 or 10 percent in each category. Thanks for the info.
