Empty boxes/containers high end skincare
I was wondering if anyone else sees this as a problem. Allowing high end empty containers & boxes of high end skincare, which is then bought, refilled with fake products, put into an original (real) box, revealed, resold on eBay and other sites.
I had this happen with a Skinceuticals purchase. I looked up the batch # on the box, it came back with a manufactured date & when that batch was produced. When opened, it was as fake as they come!
There's no other reason to purchase empty boxes & containers other than to sell fake products!!
I wish there was a way to stop this!! Any feedback is welcome and appreciated, even if you disagree, I'm open to what other reasons one would have to buy empties. Thanks for your time 🙏,
Joy P.

·2 years agoYears ago, maybe decades ago eBay took down my listing of several genuine Chanel boxes all different sizes + shapes.
I had sold all the Chanel jewelry without the boxes and thought someone would want all the boxes which were just taking up room in a drawer.
I didn’t imagine or foresee that it would be a problem…
Guess was more stupid back then about crooked stuff happening.

·2 years agoI know this Thread is old but I was searching for this topic because I’ve been scammed twice now and unsure if it was real or not, but the product inside two different bottles, I could swear is not the same as the original. I know you should expect to get what you pay for but to scam people like this is so wrong. There’s so many people doing it. I can see people buying empty boxes for laptops or computers. Even my daughter’s Meta quest VR headset I can sell for $20 but that is so someone can sell their own product threw away their box but they’re still selling it used not fake! To take Expensive face lotion and replace it with cheap crap that doesn’t even smell the same and then seal it back up in brand new bottles I didn’t think that was possible But it is. Why after someone has so many negative comments saying their products are fake, Does eBay not do something about it and shut down their account?

·4 years agoWow! Another angle on yet another scam that has been going on and now being brought to light again.
These scams are going to continue and get worse as time goes on, unless this society starts getting back to the basics of morality and common sense. Sure, there have always been and will always be scams, but this incredible rise in the frequency and development of new scams is obvious to anyone... and online selling has revealed the growing problem very well. We just have to be vigilant and very wary - no wonder there are so many posts here about scams and the increasing frustration of honest sellers - and honest buyers, too.
Because of scams being pulled left and right, especially on eBay, I have stopped selling anything over $80. Those items over $80 are destined instead for my successful use of CraigsList and cash, where I have full control over sales and avoiding scams - particularly shipping and return scams.
Just think of how much more revenue eBay could be receiving on the fees associated with the higher-value sales that they are currently losing due to sellers limiting their sales and buyers not purchasing certain highly-scammed items. All it would take is for eBay (and others) to really crack down on scammers by simply offering something simple like optional anti-scam insurance for a fee. I'd pay it! That fund, in addition to the increase in eBay's revenues due to the resumption of more higher-value sales, would easily fund more eBay personnel to look into and decide scam cases based on common sense - just like it used to be here years ago... just an idea of mine.
Especially relevant today, the Pogo cartoon strip said years ago, "We has met the enemy, and the enemy is us".
Cheers, Duffy

There seems to be an inverse relationship between the "basics of morality and common sense" and the transactional nature of the internet, never mind immersion in the toxic waste dump of social media. I'm glad I will not be around in 30 years to see how this hot mess pans out.

Well if resellers are buying these empty high end jars and containers and replacing the contents with their own and selling it to the public, there is a problem. I would think the FDA would like to be aware.
Now if a buyer just wants the high end jars for their own use, don't see a problem. But how would one police this?

OP4 years agoI think the one's that really stand out are the ones selling in lots of 10, 5 ect. As far as collecting for personal collection, Idk, I honestly don't see why anyone would want an empty box or jar of skincare unless there's something special or attractive about it. I'm sure you have a few people that might want A empty box or container, but 5 or 10??
I just think when it comes to things that people bootleg alot of, be it purses, skincare, & such there should be more oversight on. I was just curious to what others thought.

I agree with you in principle. The human penchant for Machiavellian scheming seems to have no limits. Then there are state actors like China which have refined the practice to an art.
There is a big difference between skincare products and fragrances... Lalique used to make crystal bottles for Nina Ricci (maybe they still do?) and those are definitely a collectors item, for example.
I know that people collect cigar boxes and even iPhone boxes.
But skincare boxes? Sounds odd to put it mildly.
I reckon it once again comes down to eBay's desire for revenue at any cost. That's why eBay has no quality control in the new seller onboarding process. Any clown can sign up. It's only after several bad buying experiences that he / she is defenstrated. Meantime, eBay makes some chump change.
