Emergency Plan
As many of you know I'm still recovering from a long term injury/illness. I started feeling bad on new years eve. On new years day my friend too me to the ER. I had some kind if infection and they wanted to admit me for antibiotics IVs.
My ebay emergency plan went in to action. My store got put on away. My friend was able to fulfill and ship out 4 pending orders. It went off flawlesy without a hitch.
I hope everyone has a ebay emergency plan in place when the unexpected happens.
What a crappy way to start the new year. I hope everyone had a better new year than me. 😉

I think you need to stop getting sick. We need you around here, this irresponsible behavior of letting yourself be unavailable to those who depend on you is unacceptable!

Hope the rest of the year is far better for you!

·9 months agoHey now Keef Richards is a great guy- it’s the other one you need to look out for.
Alright, I will write down access to my stores and how to shut ‘em down in case of emergency, and pass along to my husband.

·9 months agoHubs had gall bladder surgery about 20 years ago and not even one day in the hospital. Refused the pain meds and wanted to stop for lunch on the way home. Which we did.

·9 months ago@inhawaii : you are coherent and making a whole lot of sense despite being medicated and sick. do you realize that you are far more understandable than a few of the (healthy) folks who have posted here?

·9 months agoOh James, I am sorry you're dealing with more of this! I hope that they are fixing you up & sending you back home soon, where you can heal in your own enviroment. There's a lot to be said for that! My husband just had a surprise hip replacement a couple of weeks ago & they send you home SAME day usually, so you can heal at home where you're more comfortable. I'm glad you got the difficult part of the year out of the way asap, the rest is gonna be smooth sailing mate, I just KNOW it! You deserve a smooth 2026!

·9 months agoIn Canada they don't keep people in the hospital very long... I was sent home three hours after having my gallbladder removed, and when I had the pulmonary emboli, they sent me home with a prescription (after giving me the first dose there) pretty much as soon as they diagnosed me. It takes an awful lot to be in hospital overnight here. Most surgery is day surgery here.

·9 months ago@sin-n-dex A lot is here too. But I surely expected a joint replacement to be a multi-day stay. Nope! 0 nights is typical. 1 night is common. Hubby did get 1 night but that was b/c he had to have a certain PT requirement that he wouldn't have been able to get soon enough. Actually there was a whole set of requirements that he had to be able to do to be released, things like dress yourself, pee, walk up & down 3 stairs, a couple more, but since you have a nerve block, they're not hard to do LOL.
I would certainly expect pulmonary embolism to be overnight if for no other reason than to watch you. Wow! I do know that you guys have to wait forever for elective surgeries (I also learned that joint replacement is elective in most cases), but I didn't know that you sent people home that fast. I used to want to move there, but then I spent a lot of time with various Canadians & heard all the downsides LOL.

That is exactly what I had to do the next morning after hip replacement in order to leave.

·9 months ago@lakefor94 That's what he had. A surprise one, in that most people know they've needed one for years, his came out of the blue. But it's interesting they kept you overnight. He would not have stayed overnight except that a part of the PT was really important to our house layout & it was imperative that he understood how to do it & do it correctly. If it weren't for that, they would have sent him home that day provided he could do the checklist & the checklist was no problem b/c of the nerve block. It was only when the nerve block wore off (when he came home) that everything got much harder LOL.

·9 months agoFWIW, in the future for anyone looking....
In the APP.
MY eBay, Settings (at the bottom)
And Time Away is within Settings.
Doubt I would have found it it in the emergency room.....

·9 months agoA year ago I was in the emergency room after hitting my head from a fall watching my auctions end... it would have been awesome to be at home safe in my room doing that. Some people got a little impatient for invoices, but I got out of hospital a couple hours after they ended... just said "sorry was out tonight" and left it at that. Fortunately I didn't have a concussion, but now I have a lot more crooked teeth (fell on my face, thankfully didn't break my nose).

·9 months agoGet well James. As always, take care of your health FIRST. Try not to push it to open eBay back up too soon.
Glad you had your emergency plan ready. (I have mine as well, my son wrote documentation on it.)
Prayers up for you my friend, right now. Get well soon.

I am a 1 person show too for my 2 shops even though 4 other adult family members board here.
However, they are bored by my inventory, and can’t be bothered.
Hope you get all well soon-

·9 months ago@inhawaii Oh hun noooo. You make a good point about getting your emergency ducks in a row, health can turn on a dime.
Didn't feel well on Halloween, 3 days pass I could hold nothing down. Went to ER, weak sweaty and guess what, I wasn't leaving there for 2 weeks. I had Colon Cancer, removed rt half, still not working right and now a good old UTI comes along.
James and I have been sick buddies and having this emergency ebay plan is very important to him, he is living it.
Me? Gosh I've been a buying fool on the bay, so many things to cheer me up!
Let's all have a good year free of pain!

·9 months agoI’m glad your plan worked out! Honestly, I’m a one person show. My 'Plan A' is just finding where I put my inventory, and 'Plan B' doesn't exist because no one is coming to save me! If I go down, the store goes on Vacation Mode immediately. If a couple of orders slip through the cracks before I hit the button... well, they’ll just have to scream while I recover.

·9 months agoI am not a big fan of apps, but a selling apps is a real help in emergencies.
At the beginning of the pandemic when I was admitted to the hospital for heart surgery, I put my Amazon listings on vacation using their app. That avoided needing to implement the other aspects of my emergency plan.
Now that the Ebay part of your plan is done, follow the next step - GET WELL.

The app is a real pain.
I'm glad you figured it out, but most importantly that you got to the hospital for that infection before it went very wrong. Here's praying you're on the mend soon.

·9 months agoBad news and good news at the same time!
I used to write Emergency Plans for hospitals and schools, so the title of your post caught my attention.
I'm glad you recovered so quickly from your infection. I got one of those while I was in the hospital recovering from a stroke. It took over a year in and out of hospital and a couple of surgeries to get rid of it.
ETA: You have great friends!

·9 months agoI am so sorry to hear that. I hope those antibiotic have you feel good as new in a jiffy.
My emergency plan is my hubby (of course, he can never find my items in spite of my very specific inventory tracking). He would probably be celebrating and toss all my items in the garbage (ha, ha).

·9 months agoI've had to put emergency plans into place a few times, but the really big emergency happened while I was already on time away (I knew I'd be recovering from surgery and did time away, then I got complications and needed more time away).
Sorry to hear 2026 has started off really bad, hopefully things improve for you soon
