Ebay's relentless obsession with making the website look mobile is destroying the desktop experience
I wanted to add a second tracking # to a sold item that shipped in two boxes yesterday. The dropdown carrot next to the item used to have an "add tracking" button. That is now gone and the only option is to "edit" tracking- but when you click on it a new stupid mobile popup box opens and says you cannot edit because the label was purchased on ebay......... No other information. After fooling around with it for awhile and a call to ebay (whose agent was equally puzzled), we discovered that the popup box had a small scroll bar on the side! (sure I should have noticed it but hey- mobile devices dont have one- you just know to scroll with your thumb because it is a 6" phone screen)
After scrolling down we could see that the 2nd tracking was already attached and that if you scroll to the bottom there was a +addition tracking link.
What I am asking is WHY are they designing everything so poorly for a desktop- WHY are they making us scroll and click for all the information that should just be there in plain view?!
How does every other platform understand that a UI should be the best for each device and not a unified mess that makes all the devices worse, but ebay cant figure it out?
If i am using a computer with a 24" monitor- WHY am I looking at everything in a ridiculously small 6" square popup box in the middle instead of using my whole screen to give all text in a single glance?
Dont they understand that everything should be scaled to the screen size?
Maybe its just me but between the new unified listing tool that is so horrible to use on a desktop and what seems like every other section that is changing- it looks like ebay hates desktop users and is trying to drive us off the platform- death by a thousand cuts (clicks) lol.
Why do i have a computer if Ebay is reducing its functionality to that of a phone?

·4 years agoThis is what I see on my desktop.
The title says "Add or edit", the "Additional tracking number" link is there, and the scrollbar is clearly visible (but not needed):

OP4 years agoHere is what I see- from what I have gathered.... it added 2 scroll bars because i had two tracking #s and the information was pushed lower and not on the viewable screen....
In either event it is poor design that this relatively small amount of information cannot de displayed on a computer screen without scrolling. Again its a computer not a phone. And this is not the biggest deal in the world for as many times as i would access it.

·4 years agoThat does not look like a "small scroll bar" that was easy to miss. To me it stands out like a sore thumb and positively screams that there is more information below.
IMHO by no means should scrolling to the additional information require fooling around for a while and a call to eBay.
And while the screen geometry is perhaps not idea for your desktop, I hardly think this rises to the level of "destroying the desktop experience".

·5 months agoYes it is but one of a myriad of changes that Ebay has made to reduce functionality for buyers who buy menay small items i.e. stamps or coins. It is great if you buy a lawnmower one week, a television the next etc but getting very awkward if you buy 50 small items every week.
