eBay's not shy
They think I should consider promoting at 19.5% while I pay 13.25% in FVF's and I'll throw in the shipping charges and I'll even pay for the goods too. I'd like to also pay for a store subscription and some fries to go with that. Thanks!

·1 year agoWhile they may not be shy about suggesting sellers should fork over an additional ~20%, eBay apparently is shy about the fact that they've ratcheted up the minimum for the Dynamic ad rate option to 5%...maybe they hoped no one would notice? 😒

While I agree with you about the Promoted Listing suggested fees, I differ a bit with you regarding Free Shipping.
The Free Shipping marketing tool doesn't mean Ebay expects sellers to just eat the costs for shipping. That is not what is or was intended. Sellers have to raise the cost of the product to cover the cost of their shipping.

I realize you have points you want to get across. I said absolutely NOTHING about what you have come back with. You have issues with Ebay as some do. I respect that. I made a specific post regarding your misrepresentation of what Free Shipping is. That was it.
For me, none of this is an issue because I use my personal experiences and the needs I have to make decisions about what functions, tools, options, etc. that I will be using on Ebay.
As to the numbers they report. IDK anything about them nor do I have access to anything to support or disclaim them. Just my brain to assist me to make decisions for myself. I spend very little time if any getting upset about things Ebay suggests. It doesn't bother me as deeply as it does for some.

·1 year agoIf you truly feel that way, then stop trying to dismiss the posts that don't fit your point of view. It is simply a conversation. If your TRUE goal is to inform others, then listen to what they have to say, you might learn something different that you currently have in your toolbox. Much can be learned from each other.

·1 year agoI've heard of PL rates this high, but seeing this actual clip in black and white literally makes me want to puke - Though I don't believe it has anything to do with not be shy - This is way past being called out for being too gutsy - In my humble opinion, the company's actions in sending this to a customer are repulsive, reprehensible, indefensible and immoral... chosen arbitrarily amongst a slew of similar words...

·1 year agoSome sellers might do very well using a very very high percentage on some of their listings. Point would,be to get those items at the highest exposure level and THOSE listings may drive other sales in their stores. That;s the way to do it on here. Most would not promote EVERYTHING they have for sale at that high percentage.

If you want to have effective promotion, you will have to pay the price.
@thelongballis correct. Ebay has told you that 7.6% will not yield adequate results. So why spend that money. You should thank Ebay for being so honest, in this regard.

"PT Barnum was right."
(Put another way: for every 100 sellers who dismiss that recommendation, there will be at least a half dozen who, unthinkingly, take the advice, because it comes from an "authority figure" that seeks to "create economic opportunity for all". Thinking here of Charles Darwin.)

Over on the UK site a while back they were doing some one off promotions for buy it nows. They wanted me to pay £5 to promote my item. My problem with that was my item was on sale for £4.95

So just out of curiosity rumor has it that UK sellers will no longer be paying FVF's at some point and those will be remanded to the buyer. So if one is promoting their items are those fees also remanded to the buyer? This could turn into a runaway train real quickly if that is the case.

·1 year agoIf your 7.6 isn't competitive then drop it down to 2%. Why waste your money is what they are telling You. If they can't appreciate what your offering, Then give them less.

I ignore all suggestions or recommendations eBay throws my way.

OP1 year agoI've been around eBay long enough to ignore all of their suggestions. I've also visited this forum enough to know that most people loiter here, daily, waiting to give smartazz responses because they have nothing better to do with their lives. I felt the need to give you something to do.

Who is giving the "smartazz" response? @jamesshen1 said nothing that should have inspired this post. He just voiced what he does and how he sees the subject you have brought to the forum.
Much can be learned through Civil debate. Listening to both sides. It appears you only one one side to be heard.
Oh and to those "loiter[s]. THANK YOU for volunteering your time to come to the threads to help others. That is what the majority of the "loiter[s]" do. A minority of them come simply to see what they can stir up.

Give it some time as those who are using PL continue to increase their percentages to try to gain a competitive edge when in fact there is NO proof that the use of PL increases sales.

·1 year agoWhile I don't use PL myself and I am not sure that I ever will, whether the tool boils down to the experiences of those that use the program. We have had some sellers come to the Community and voiced their dislike for the program, but in all fairness there have been others that use the program that say it is working well for them.
My opinion is Ebay is never a one size fits all for much of anything. We just have to stay on our toes and recognize a tool that might help us and those that aren't likely to help. That is a decision for each of us to make.
