eBay's new on-line commercials "Pre-loved, Vintage and Rare Fashions. "
I've started to see these today. On-line only
Anyone else see these? I think they are very well done!
Nice to see something for those of us that don't sell auto parts.

·1 year ago@valueaddedresource posted a new ebay ad video yesterday in this thread. Has anyone seen other versions of this?
@devon@ebay Is the video posted above part of a new ad campaign? If so, can you provide a link or post the other videos in the campaign, and perhaps tell us where we will be seeing them?

Yup -- the more "zero feedback buyer" paranoia, the more buyers for the rest of us.
But the risk is that these types of sellers may turn some buyers off to eBay altogether.
vintagecraze50
·1 year agoEXACTLY. The people who end up blocking them or cancelling their order will really make them angry.

I canceled an order once for a legit reason -- they do get angry.

·1 year agoThat's great and it looks very professionally done. I have every confidence it will drive new buyers to the site. I fully expect to see new buyers with zero feedback and a brand new account. Because that is what all advertising does.
QUICK
How many times have you seen sellers post on here that they absolutely refuse to sell to new buyers with zero feedback because they are absolutely convinced that it mys be a scam.
How do you or eBay get them to see the folly of their ways.
Something about leading a horse comes to mind.

·1 year ago@valueaddedresource The ad is not bad, better than some I've seen from ebay over the years. But it's worth noting that it seems to basically advertise an aggregate of Focus Category items: sneakers, authenticated jewelry and clothing, etc. I actually like that they show some of the sellers , because it reminds buyers that the ebay site is not a huge retailer but rather, it is largely a collection of small businesses. And its focus on younger buyers is certainly not misplaced.
The OP mentions ads plural....I hope we soon see some of the others. I wouldn't be surprised if ebay promotes them during ebay Open.

·1 year ago@my-cottage-books-and-antiques did you notice the tagline at the end? eBay: Things. People. Love
Like you, I'm hoping that leaves room for "things" outside of the focus verticals. 🤞
I found that ad through a link an eBay employee shared on LinkedIn but notably it is set as "unlisted" in their YouTube account, which means you can find it only through a direct link but it won't appear in search or if you just browse their channel page - which like you said makes me wonder if there are other ads as well that are also still "unlisted".
Just based on this one video, it reminds me of the eBay It Forward campaign they did in 2021 - while some of those spots were very much about the focus verticals, they also had one about vintage clothes and another that was a more general "sell what didn't work to make room for what does" theme.

That's not surprising because eBay had actually surveyed buyers earlier this year on their thoughts about bringing eBay It Forward back as part of what seems to be a larger strategy shift happening since Chief Business Strategy Officer Stef Jay left the company in January.
My sense of where things are now is eBay isn't giving up on the focus verticals, but might at least be slowly starting to pivot back to Jamie's original concept of having those be in addition to, not to the exclusion of, the core consumer to consumer business that was once considered the foundation of the platform.
Hopefully Devon will be able to share the rest of the ads (if there are more) and some more info about where they are being displayed to the public.

·1 year ago@valueaddedresource Good points.
The ad itself suggests that the speaker is selling on ebay in order to pay for her new purchases on ebay....so I'd say this ad (if it is US), is an attempt to boost consumer to consumer sales here (especially in fashion), which is what they've been doing in Germany and the UK. So the targeting is not only to bring on more buyers, but also more sellers.
From my perspective as a seller, I'm just glad to see ebay doing anything to bring on more buyers for vintage, even if the vintage seems to be limited to Focus Category fashion. An effort to build the c to c business is WAY overdue.

·1 year agoI will have to keep an eye out for that.
Currently all I see on this side of the pond is "sponsored by ebay" on repeats of decades old motoring shows.

·1 year agoAnything ebay does to bring people to the site is a good thing.
I'm happy to see it.
I took an ebay expressions survey recently, and I went on a rant
about the Automotive ads are fine for that niche, But what about
the other sellers on the site?
Holiday season will be upon us shortly.

It'll be nice to see something besides auto parts and promote your store ads.
